About King's Damage Meter

What is King's Damage Meter?

KDM is an open source damage meter for Aion Online. It parses the chat log created by the game client when logging is enabled and translates the damage done by you and those around you into a readable format. KDM will not help you cheat. KDM does not interact with the client nor does it read the client's memory. It will not alert you to events that occur in game or automate game play. KDM does not contain networking code and will never attempt to make a connection to the internet. KDM is written in C# and WPF and requires the .Net framework version 3.5 SP1

A quick question, since you use GNU, where is the source code? Release it.
    Quote GNU-lisence:
Our General Public Licenses are designed to make sure that you
have the freedom to distribute copies of free software (and charge for
them if you wish), that you receive source code or can get it if you
want it, that you can change the software or use pieces of it in new
free programs, and that you know you can do these things.

Lisence even says it, so release the source code.

DPS-Meter is the failest FAIL from addon creators,
    only a Aggro-Meter is needed 4 Aion.
    All another addons are crap.
Here in Europe is addon using forbidden. and thatz good so

The only people that dislike a dps meter are the people that have no idea how to dps. It helps rule out the people that have no idea what they're doing.
Aggro meter is one of the most useless in all games, either you have aggro or you don't, either you know how to tank, or you don't.
And you can use addons in Europe, it's the games decision not a countries, nice to see you have no idea what you're talking about.

Quote from wizbiscus »i totally agree with you about dps meters... but in the same sense, i feel that you really have no idea how to dps if you think monitoring your agro is useless....

i know games these days are more forgiving, but back in the day, there were encounters that would wipe the second a tank lost agro...

@wizbiscus: I have to agree with the agro meter point here, as well as the statement that Zannypants might not understand fully how to dps (sorry, just trying to put it nicely).

@Zannypants: While I can't exactly agree that a dps meter is useless, or a bad idea in general, I feel that some of the uses for it have been taken advantage of. Back in my WoW days is when I first started using addons in general. The DPS meter was a good idea to see where you stood in a group. Upgrading gear and changing rotations to boost dps output, and using a dps meter to see how it effects your overall contibutions in a group environment....its a nice idea really. However, elitists took advantage of the idea and instead used it to "remove players who were not performing up to par" if you will. In my observations in the games I have played, some of the players who have a lot of experience in a game tend to "forget" that there will always be new players to a game, and will not have the benefit of the knowledge that more expereinced players do. SO some use the dps meter as a way to eliminate the "weaker" players from a group.

No, a DPS meter is only a bad idea if it is used to ridicule or eliminate less expereinced players IMO.

As far as an agro meter.......yes, it is certainly a good idea. As a tank and as a healer, I know how frustrating it can be when an "OP DPS" wants to "shine" in a group by blowing off as much dps as possible before the tank fully has agro, which often does result in the tank losing agro (a smart dps knows that you wait until the tank fully has agro before letting loose on their cd's.....) and the tank and the healer having to work overtime. Sorry to say, that in a group that I am healing, if a dps habitually pulls agro from a tank, that dps can resort to pots for the duration of the fight, because I am not draining my mana pool on them when the rest of the group is doing theirs respective jobs correctly.

Point being, DPS meter is good, and can be an effective tool for a "mentor" ( I guess thats what they are calling them now....) to help their mentee's learn more about how to use their skills and gear up for the best dps output for boss fights. Agro meter is good to let the overzelous DPS's know when they are in danger of losing healer support because they are trying to take over the job of the tank.

A good tank can hold agro as long as they are not stunned or otherwise incapacitated; a bad dps will keep pounding away and end up with full agro when that happens. Its not always avoidable, but you can control your threat generation by using an agro meter. Agro meter is a good tool for a DPS to have.

Just wanted to offer up a different view of the issues.
