About Dimension Toolbox

Patch 2.2 introduced an issue with text boxes and UI scaling. The only solution at the moment is to set your Global UI scale (settings - interface - display) to 100% (this may interfere with your UI layout - not sure). Trion should be fixing this soon.

"Dimension Toolbox", an addon to help with building dimensions.

Demonstration video (v 1.2) (youtube)

Features:

  • Displays attibute values for the selected dimension items
    - Positional values (X, Y, Z)
    - Rotational values (Yaw, Pitch, Roll)
    - Scale value
  • Change the above values accurately by entering a number
    - Can enter absolute or relative values
  • Copy an items attibutes and paste them onto another item
    - Can offset specific attributes when pasting
    - Can offset each item seperately to allow for quick alignment of multiple items
  • Save and load sets of items.
  • Import and export sets of items (share your constructions with friends!)

Instructions:

  • Type /toolbox in order to show/hide the toolbox window. When hidden, it should take up very little to no resources.

  • Select an item to see its attributes. Note that the attributes are updated on mouseclick, so if the item fails to appear just click the mouse and it should update. (This is a temporary issue until dimension events are added to the API)

  • To move an item or group of items, enter the desired values into the X, Y, Z boxes and click 'Modify position'. See below for the difference between absolute and relative positioning.
    - When moving multiple items, the Move as group option moves the selected items while keeping their relative positions. Unchecking this option will move all selected items to the exact entered location.
    - The 'reset' button will move the item(s) close to your character.

  • To rotate an item, enter the desired values into the Yaw, Pitch, Roll boxes and click 'Modify rotation'.
    - The 'reset' button will set the item's yaw, pitch and roll values to 0.

  • To modify the item's scale, enter the desired values into the Scale box and click 'Modify scale'
    - The 'reset' button will set the item's scale to 1.

  • To copy/paste an item's attributes, first select the item you wish to copy, and click 'Copy attributes'. Then select the item you wish to paste the attributes onto and click 'Paste attributes'.
    - The checkboxes below the copy/paste buttons can be deselected if you don't wish to paste certain attributes. If you want to paste an items rotation for example, but not its position, you can uncheck the 'X', 'Y' and 'Z' boxes before pasting.
    - The 'offset' values beside the checkboxes allow you to add a value to that particular attribute when pasting. For example, if you copy an item with a Y-position of 45, but you want the pasted item to have a Y-position of 55 (nudged by 10), enter '10' into the textbox beside the 'Y' checkbox.
    - When working with multiple items, the 'Offset each item seperately' checkbox will increase the offset for each item modified. For example, copying an item with a Y-value of 15 and pasting this onto 3 objects with a Y-offset of 10 will result in the new objects having Y values of 25, 35 and 45. See the video above for a demonstration of this feature.

To save an item set:
Select the items you wish to save, enter a name for the set (under 'save/load item sets), and click 'Save'

To load an item set:

  • Select the item set you wish to load from the drop-down
  • Click 'Print materials' to see a list of materials needed for the set
  • Select the required materials in the dimension (e.g. if the set requires 4 planks, you must place 4 planks in your dimension and select them)
  • Click 'Load' to load the set
  • Select the 'Load at original location' to load the item set in the place it was saved. Otherwise, the set will be loaded next to the player's position.

Importing / Exporting:

  • To import a set, paste the string into the "import" text field, enter a name in the "name" text field, and click the "Import" button.
  • To export a set, select the saved set from the drop-down list, and click "Export set". The exported string will appear in the "Export" text field.

Absolute and relative positioning:

  • Absolute positioning will set the value to the value you input. For example if an item has an X-value of 300 and you enter a value of 500, its new X-value will be 500.
  • Relative positioning will 'nudge' the value by the amount you enter. For example, if an item has an X-value of 300 and you enter a value of 20 using relative positioning, its new X-value will be 320. If you entered -20, its new X-value would be 280.

Note that certain values will be adjusted to the minimum or maximum possible value. For example if you enter a scale of '10' it will be reduced to the maximum that the item can have.

I've encountered quite a serious error with your addon. When I place an item using the XYZ coordinates the items disappear upon re-entering the dimension. They are still in the items list, but when I try to click on them I get the error "the item you selected is too far away." Sadly, I had placed about 30 items before I realized this error was occuring. Any input would be greatly appreciated as I cannot continue working in my dimension until this is solved.

edit: I've narrowed it down. Seems that the X axis input is broken for both the copy/paste and the move functions.

edit2: Also it seems to be affecting the Vengeful Sky dimension and none of the others. Not sure what the real issue is. I'm going to submit a ticket and see if I can find anything out from a GM.

edit3: Talked to a GM and it's a known issue with Vengeful Sky. They are aparently working on a fix but it hasn't been fixed in today's patch.

Is there a forum for users of Dimension Toolbox to ask questions or to show how they've been able to use this great addon to create beautiful shapes? I've been using for creating amazing geometrical designs.

But there is one thing I'd like to create ... a circle with the building blocks (tiles, rectangles, etc). I've done one manually of course (tile placed at a 15degree angle and moved to the edge of the previous one) but I'd like to be able to do it with Toolbox for greater accuracy and I can't figure this out.

     Hey Arkz.,, its Aesha.

I am having trouble with the Input fields as well. (If I click on the X input field, it highlights the Yaw input field. Cant get to any ot the others at all since the latest patch. I have a sneaking suspicion its related to the update to the libSimpleWidgets for 2013.

    Help!!!!!

    (this Dimension junkie is panicking!)

Turns out that if you switch your Global UI Scale back to 100% it fixes the issue.

Yeah I know, its painful but :D

errr.. not to mention a possible change to the API with 2.2?

Hi! I love this addon, but only got to use it a few times before the update to the game. Since then, I am unable to type in any of the fields in the Toolbox menu. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the addon, with no luck. Any ideas? Thanks!

I have the same issue.  If i rotate an item once its fine.  if you do it again the item will tilt unless you RESET first and THEN do it a different way.  Also, for the last few days I haven't even been able to use the addon.  i can open it but I can't click in the text boxes to be able to type anything.  I have restarted the game and I have uninstalled and reinstalled the addon.  It still does not work for me.  I asked a friend to check his and it was working fine.  I don't know how to fix mine.

"Can't type in the fields" ...

This was working fine up until the patch 2.2. So there's something thats been broken.

I've encountered a VERY irritating bug with the addon. When you copy an attribute and then offset the items Yaw and only that attribute is checked, for some reason it also tilts the item to a miniscule degree. I noticed this when I was building a staircase. It rotated the item correctly with an offset of the previous item I copied but by the time you got to the top of the staircase you will notice that the entire starecase is tilted. You cant tilt the entire staircase at once because each individual item was tilted at such a small amount it gradually increased. I have NO clue why it would tilt the item when the ONLY box checked is Yaw. Not roll, not pitch.

Also I've tried to save/load a set but when I try and load one it just gives me an error and asks me to try again later. Not sure if I was doing something wrong.

    Load set bug?

Awesome add-on.  I've been using it extensively to build my dimension but occasionally I've run into an annoying bug.  I'm not sure if it's an issue with Dimension Toolbox or with Rift but basically what happens is I'll save a set of items, and then when I go to duplicate it by loading that set, the new set is not identical to the one I saved.  The blocks are 180 degrees off, so I have to rotate them back into place.  I've recorded a quick video so you can see what I mean: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C64L8wyEJ-8&feature=youtu.be

Any ideas what could be causing this issue?

Great add on.  Makes throwing up walls a breeze.

My tips to people through, unless your real good at math and such, its best to manupilate and build structures using the default rotations first, then rotate the entire structure...other wise, trying to rotate using the input fields and such is a pain.

If at all possible my only suggestions would be to allow you to rotate groups(as the default rotate tool can) and most importantly would like to see a an option to have the addon recalculate new X,Y,Z and roll, yaw, pitch axis'.  So when you do rotate something, you are not trying to manipulate two different axis to get the object where you want it, as the in-game X and Y axis stay permanant.  But if the addon could determine that if you say rotated an object around the yaw 30 degrees, it would put a new relative X and Z axis 30 degrees out, so you could use the addon tool to offset copies based on these new axis. If that makes any sense.

    Can i rotate a group??

Hi, this is a brilliant addon for all dimension fanatics. I noticed one problem though, the dimension dummies can't be rotated with the toolbox. Any idea why?

  • #5

Probable becuz they got a FIXED angle. as they are interactive it would complicate things

    Hi,

A friend of mine installed this addon and was using it quite regulary, until one day it got moved to the corner and off her screen. Now she can't get it back to where it was and is unable to click and drag it. She tried uninstalling and reinstalling it but to no avail. Any info on how to move the window back to it's original space would be great!
