Buff Bars and Icons

Please check out the Gadgets:Buffs addon, if you want more advanced buff/debuff tracking.

Quick Start

You will see a round button with a Gear icon in the middle of your screen. Drag this button to where you want it by left clicking and dragging.

Right click on the button and choose 'Add Gadget' to add a gadget to your screen.

Left clicking on the button will unlock (and re-lock) all of your gadgets. When unlocked, Gadgets can be moved by dragging their movement handles (the white gear icon at the top corner of each gadget).

To alter an existing gadget, right click on it's movement handle while gadgets are unlocked, and choose 'Modify Gadget'.

When moving gadgets around on the screen, you can align them to another gadget by dragging the move handle over the top of another move handle. The gadget you are dragging will align itself either horizontally or vertically with it. If you move the gadget too far from the horizontal or vertical axes, alignment mode will turn off (it should hopefully become clear when you try it!).

Grid Snapping

Typing "/gadgets grid 8" for example, will snap all movement and resizes to an 8 pixel grid. Type "/gadgets grid" with no number to reset snapping.

The raid and group frames allow you to specify macros for various mouse buttons and the mouse wheel. These are standard RIFT macros, with a couple of extra Gadgets features:

Use @unit to refer to the unit the frame is showing. For example "cast @unit Healing Breath".

Use modifer it you want:

cast [shift] @unit Symbol of the Torch
cast Symbol of the Sun

Use the following syntax to have a macro carry out different actions depending on your current role:

:if role == 1 or role == 6 then
target @unit
:if role == 2  then
target @unit
cast Healing Spray
:if role == 3 or role == 4 or role == 5 then
target @unit
cast [shift] @unit Symbol of the Torch
cast Symbol of the Sun

Save, load and delete your profiles. How to save, load and delete your profiles you can see on my video guide;

I have borrowed some images from other people. I believe the licenses on these sources allow this, but if not, I will replace them.

  • Various bar textures from LibSharedMedia (WoW addon)
  • Orb images from Roth UI (WoW addon)
  • A few images from the Rift Fansite Kit

If you store your addons not in the my documents folder. This case you need to manualy download Gadgets but not with Curse Client.

    Sounds good! Think the bug will be fixed next release?

  • #122

    Ok, I've got an issue. When using the simple unit frame, it does not show marks on my unit frame. Anyway i can make it show the marks on my unit frame like it does with standard?

  • #125

    I didn't realise that was missing. Yes, that should be simple to add in.

  • #120

    I will start by saying i love your add on ..but in my case the other day my button to add /move/or create buttons disappeared from the screen where i had it under the map ..tried uninstalling/and reinstalling..did not not work ..tried disableing everything but gadgets and did not help either at this ppoint i will try anything ..even tried command lines like /gadgets config no luck .So any help i would be thankful for

    Well after being annoyed by the teleporter add on since all it showed was my sou recall i decided to disable it and sure enough your button showed back up so problem fixed

    Sorry, getting behind on checking comments...

    The command to reset the button to the centre of the screen is "/gadget reset". However, it looks like you found a different solution, and the reset command probably wouldn't have helped.

    Thank you for the quick update! Keep up the great work, we really appreciate it!

    I agree. I love this addon.

    Thanks for all the feedback. I'm trying to squash bugs and performance issues with the existing code, while also working on the new frames. In terms of an ETA, all I can say is that I am working on them now. I should have an early version out very soon (within the next few days), with my plan being to add more and more options over time to increase the flexibility once an initial version is out and stable.

    In terms of the sab charges, I'm not sure what's causing that issue. I can roll out my rogue and see if I can replicate it (never played a Sab), but where a specific buff/debuff doesn't work as expected, it will be down to the RIFT API, as Gadgets treats every single buff/debuff in exactly the same way.

    The same goes for target-of-target - there should be nothing special about any particular unit specifier, the code is the same. I do use target-of-target myself, and haven't seen any issues. Is this still happening with the latest version?

  • #116

    the thing is, you cant see any buffs or debuffs of target; yourself or tot, it just doesnt show any buffs or anything.  I wish it did, that and I love the rectangles for combo points on nkthings, its just that mod is so far broken its crazy.  I guess ill deal with the default frames until someone does something

  • #117

    Just a thought - are you aware of the Gadgets:Buffs addon? It gives you two new gadget types, buff bars and buff icons. It is massively more configurable than the basic debuff icons that are built into the unit frame templates.

    I disable all buffs on my frames, and then put a stack of debuff bars above my target, and a set of huge buff icons above my own frame showing specific buffs (e.g. Life & Death Concord). I find this works really well for me.

    It doesn't help with raid frames (hence the work I'm currently doing), but for unit frames it can be really useful.

    I am finding that there is some sort of issue with the lib files and Gadgets. My Addon CPU usage was extremely high after 2.1, and even after the fix you put up. I turned my addons off one at a time and the problem fixed itself when I turned off Gadgets. I love this addon and would hate to play without it, so hoping future fixes will help? The fix did stop the lib error from popping up when I log on, so I don't have the specific error to show you.

    I haven't had much play time with 2.1 yet, though I haven't seen any drastic CPU issues myself. However, we know from past experience that RIFT is very sensitive to different machine setups, with no apparent logic to it. I'll try to work out where CPU is being used, and see if there's anything that can be done to fix it.

    What could be useful, is if you re-enable Gadgets, add a CPU monitor gadget, and have a look at the split between display and processing. The display is usually a lot higher, and is purely related to the number of items being shown on the screen. There's nothing I can do about this unfortunately - RIFT uses a Flash based system for its 2D UI, and it's incredibly inefficient. However, if it's the process number that is too high, I can probably do something about it.

    Thanks - WT

  • #118

    I did what you suggested, and most of the issue was display, although there was also some points where processes ran high. I'm guessing it's a problem on Trion's end. Unfortunately, I've had to turn it off for now, as have others in my guild who love your addon as much as I do. I'm hoping whatever the issue is on Trion's side will be fixed with future patches, and I'll keep an eye here for updates as well. Thanks!

    I just updated my gadgets after a really long time and It looks alot better. I have a problem tho, it's showing faction icons, sometimes. Is there a way to disable that? I've looked and can't seem to find a way. Also it's showing some weird sword icon sometimes as well. This is on the unit frame gadget, for myself and my target.  And sometimes no icon is shown at all, not even the class icon. I never had these issues with the version of gadgets i was using.. which i think was .70

    The faction icon is the PVP indicator, and the sword is the In Combat indicator. When you see no role icon, that is either because the unit has no role (very common), or there's a bug introduced in 2.1 that I haven't seen yet!

    You can't disable these things at the moment. As per other replies, please hold out for the new type of unit frame that is coming soon - there will be many more options available in these ones.
