Buff Bars and Icons

Please check out the Gadgets:Buffs addon, if you want more advanced buff/debuff tracking.

Quick Start

You will see a round button with a Gear icon in the middle of your screen. Drag this button to where you want it by left clicking and dragging.

Right click on the button and choose 'Add Gadget' to add a gadget to your screen.

Left clicking on the button will unlock (and re-lock) all of your gadgets. When unlocked, Gadgets can be moved by dragging their movement handles (the white gear icon at the top corner of each gadget).

To alter an existing gadget, right click on it's movement handle while gadgets are unlocked, and choose 'Modify Gadget'.

When moving gadgets around on the screen, you can align them to another gadget by dragging the move handle over the top of another move handle. The gadget you are dragging will align itself either horizontally or vertically with it. If you move the gadget too far from the horizontal or vertical axes, alignment mode will turn off (it should hopefully become clear when you try it!).

Grid Snapping

Typing "/gadgets grid 8" for example, will snap all movement and resizes to an 8 pixel grid. Type "/gadgets grid" with no number to reset snapping.

The raid and group frames allow you to specify macros for various mouse buttons and the mouse wheel. These are standard RIFT macros, with a couple of extra Gadgets features:

Use @unit to refer to the unit the frame is showing. For example "cast @unit Healing Breath".

Use modifer it you want:

cast [shift] @unit Symbol of the Torch
cast Symbol of the Sun

Use the following syntax to have a macro carry out different actions depending on your current role:

:if role == 1 or role == 6 then
target @unit
:if role == 2  then
target @unit
cast Healing Spray
:if role == 3 or role == 4 or role == 5 then
target @unit
cast [shift] @unit Symbol of the Torch
cast Symbol of the Sun

Save, load and delete your profiles. How to save, load and delete your profiles you can see on my video guide;

I have borrowed some images from other people. I believe the licenses on these sources allow this, but if not, I will replace them.

  • Various bar textures from LibSharedMedia (WoW addon)
  • Orb images from Roth UI (WoW addon)
  • A few images from the Rift Fansite Kit

If you store your addons not in the my documents folder. This case you need to manualy download Gadgets but not with Curse Client.

    also want to let you know target of target unitframe is black and buggy

  • #104

    yeah did that, no dice, and its another author for nkthings, and its not coming along at all, its 100% broke as of late

  • #99

    After 2.1 a lot of things are broken, which i'm sure you have noticed yourself. Here is what I have found:

    - Raid Frames, Player Frames, Targets, and targetofTarget frames are bugged and do not show proper HP or loss of HP.

    - Cast bars do not work anymore either.

    Thanks in advance for the fixes!

  • #100

    Thanks for the heads up. I haven't seen these yet, but I'm in EU and we haven't had 2.1 yet. I've put one fix in already, but I kinda need to see the errors for myself so I know what is broken :(

    I love these gadgets, secifically FPS monitor and XP bar.  I've tried to change the XP bar to comma separated but it won't work.  Also, are you going to add in a lag monitor?

  • #103

    I should make the XP bar respect the comma seperated global setting for Gadgets - I'll do this.

    Unfortunately, a lag monitor is impossible right now. We've asked Trion for the functionality, but I don't know what the priority is on it (probably pretty low).

    I really do enjoy this addon.  Its a little complicated but once you get past that, it is amazing.  The one thing that I wish you would improve opon is the player and target unit frames.  I like how the player frame is a green color.  However, when I setup the target frame it is also green.  I believe that this frame should change color according to the target's positure.  Red for an enemy, yellow for netural, and green is it is a friendly NPC.  Thank you.

    I've been suffering with the same thing myself lately, and will be changing it to support this. I'll probably change the colour of the unit's name for now, rather than the health bar, until I can get some proper options in place.

    Basically, when I was working on this before, I'd pretty much stopped playing RIFT and was just writing my addon. Now I'm playing again, I'm noticing all of these irritations myself :)

    This is my favoruite rift addon currently, looking forward to seeing how its expanded.  One thing that I really miss is the ability to easily see that myself or somebody else in the group is mentoring.

    An icon or even just showing the level text in a different colour something on the Unit frames would be ideal.

    Also, a way to alter the font face, font size and icon size (pvp,faction, role) on the unit frames would be great.

    Keep up the great work, its much appreciated !

    I never gave mentoring a thought. I'm not sure there's even API support for it, but you're right - it needs to be in there somewhere. I'll check the API, and have a word with Zorba if we can't currently do it.

    I'm working on an alternate set of unit frames that will be more configurable. Have a look at my "To Do List" on the game forum if you want to see what's currently in the pipeline (and suggest things to be added).

    Hi i started using Gadget now an its a pretty cool ui addon:) i woul like to know one thing how can i delete a char that doesnt exist anymore from the import settings window in gadgets i am not that firm with lua so i could really search the lua files or anything else :) could need a little help:) thx alot:)

  • #93

    Hmm, I should really add an option for that. You'd need to delete the character's entry from a table in your saved variables file. I'm at work right now so can't check exactly which file and what you'd need to delete, but I'll have a look tonight and reply.

  • #97

    thx that would be nice.) thanks a lot in advance

          Hello and thanks for taking time to read this.  I am using Gadgets:Images and am trying to figure out if there is a way to make them appear under the stock UI elements?  I have tried every possible layer number in the modify gadget area and have had no luck .  I have also tried fiddling with the LUA code, but no go.   I basically would just like to be able to create black boxes underneath of the rest of my UI.  I realize you are not the author, but I would love if you could help me with some insight.  Thanks again.
