Buff Bars and Icons

Please check out the Gadgets:Buffs addon, if you want more advanced buff/debuff tracking.

Quick Start

You will see a round button with a Gear icon in the middle of your screen. Drag this button to where you want it by left clicking and dragging.

Right click on the button and choose 'Add Gadget' to add a gadget to your screen.

Left clicking on the button will unlock (and re-lock) all of your gadgets. When unlocked, Gadgets can be moved by dragging their movement handles (the white gear icon at the top corner of each gadget).

To alter an existing gadget, right click on it's movement handle while gadgets are unlocked, and choose 'Modify Gadget'.

When moving gadgets around on the screen, you can align them to another gadget by dragging the move handle over the top of another move handle. The gadget you are dragging will align itself either horizontally or vertically with it. If you move the gadget too far from the horizontal or vertical axes, alignment mode will turn off (it should hopefully become clear when you try it!).

Grid Snapping

Typing "/gadgets grid 8" for example, will snap all movement and resizes to an 8 pixel grid. Type "/gadgets grid" with no number to reset snapping.

The raid and group frames allow you to specify macros for various mouse buttons and the mouse wheel. These are standard RIFT macros, with a couple of extra Gadgets features:

Use @unit to refer to the unit the frame is showing. For example "cast @unit Healing Breath".

Use modifer it you want:

cast [shift] @unit Symbol of the Torch
cast Symbol of the Sun

Use the following syntax to have a macro carry out different actions depending on your current role:

:if role == 1 or role == 6 then
target @unit
:if role == 2  then
target @unit
cast Healing Spray
:if role == 3 or role == 4 or role == 5 then
target @unit
cast [shift] @unit Symbol of the Torch
cast Symbol of the Sun

Save, load and delete your profiles. How to save, load and delete your profiles you can see on my video guide;

I have borrowed some images from other people. I believe the licenses on these sources allow this, but if not, I will replace them.

  • Various bar textures from LibSharedMedia (WoW addon)
  • Orb images from Roth UI (WoW addon)
  • A few images from the Rift Fansite Kit

If you store your addons not in the my documents folder. This case you need to manualy download Gadgets but not with Curse Client.

    I love your addon! There are three things that I think could really improve this addon. I think the fading of bars for players that are out of range is kind of dim, might want to think about decreasing their opacity a little more. Secondly, adding an option to have heals over time pictures show up on players bars instead of having to use a seperate mod. Thirdly, You should allow us to set how big the debuff are on players bars. Other than that, its great and I want to thank you for taking the time to make this for us! I really appreicate it and I'm sure many other players do as well.

    Please see the comment above for a link to a high level description of how I'm intending to allow a lot more customization. This should eventually give you enough options to let you do pretty much everything you want.

    How do you use the XP bar?? I've been trying for ages and I can't find out how to enable it : /

    The instructions are a little lacking at the moment, I'll put some effort into improving them :)

    When you installed the Gadgets addon, you should have seen the 'Gadget' button in the middle of your screen (it's a gear icon on a blue circular button). You might have dragged this elsewhere on your screen using your left mouse button.

    If you right click on the Gadget button, a pop-up menu will appear, with the option to add a new gadget. Select this option, and a window will open with a list of various gadgets down the left hand side.

    Scroll down to the bottom of this list, and you'll find the XP bar gadget. Click on it, and it's options will appear on the right hand side. There is only one option for this particular gadget.

    Click on 'Create', and the window will disappear, and you should see a new XP bar gadget appear towards the top left corner of your screen. It will have a light coloured overlay over the top, with a small gear in the top left corner and a triangle in the bottom right. This overlay appears whenever your gadgets are unlocked (you toggle gadgets between locked/unlocked by left clicking on the Gadget button).

    By left clicking on the gear icon at the top left of the gadget, you can drag it to wherever you want it on your screen. The triangle in the bottom right can be used to resize the gadget.

    When you're happy with the position and size, simply left click the Gadget button, and your gadgets will be locked in place.

    If you want to remove a gadget you've placed on the screen, unlock your gadgets, and right click on the small gear icon at the top left corner of the gadget you want to delete. One of the options is 'Delete Gadget'.

    Hopefully everything's clear - I will write a proper manual for this stuff!

    Ah, I think I understand the problem now.

    The XP gadgets are currently in the BETA release, which means you have to use the 'Other Downloads' option above to download the latest versions.

    I'll add a note to the main description to highlight this.

    When I choose to "add gadget" from right clicking the icon the menu window does pop up. The problem Im having is from the list of  gadgets to choose from there isn't one for the XP bar. I get;

    CPU Monitor, Cast Bar, Charge Meter, Combo Points, FPS Monitor, Planar Charges, Raid Frames, Range Finder, Reload UI, Soul Vitality, Unit Frame

    There is no option for XP bar. I have check within all the above gadgets and its just not there, I redownloaded the addon several times today and yesterday and I can only use the ones in the list above.

    Hey, I'm loving the addon but one thing really bothers me.
    With the raid gadget, is there a way to put the 3rd and 4th raidframe under 1 and 2?
    I know you can alter it by 4x5 , 5x4 .. but nothing to make it more compact on the left side of my screen.

  • #18

    That's a layout that for some reason I never thought of. I will add a couple more layouts for the next release.

    There are so many possible combinations, I should probably come up with a much more flexible option. Maybe the option to add individual gadgets for groups 1,2,3 and 4 seperately. Then you could choose horizontal/vertical, and normal/reverse order for each group, and place each one exactly where you want it (similar to the built in frames).

    In fact that makes a lot of sense, I'm going to add a 'Group Frames' gadget. Thanks for the inspiration :)

  • #19

    That would be great :)
    Hehe no problem.
    Also a mana and life bar could be handy.
    Then I just disable my portrait and have even more room. Moving raid frames up and being able to increase the scale of something else, like chat.

  • #14

    Love it. Especially the range finder. When playing marksman, it gives me the precise distance that I would like. 35m.

    Only problem I have is on one of my toons, the button is missing. Might have dragged it off. Just don't know.

    Would like to see a /chat command feature and reset.

    Thanks for a great add.

  • #15

    For a missing button, try /gadget reset

    That should put the button back in the middle of your screen.

  • #13

     Help i dragged one of the windows off screen ( the range meter) and now i cant get to the drag handle to move it again. I cant even disable or remove it since you have to click the drag circle to do that.

  • #16

    Erm, OK, that's a bit trickier than the missing button...

    If you type in "/gadget list", you'll get a list in chat of all of your loaded gadgets.

    It'll probably say: Gadget: RangeFinder1 (RangeFinder)

    Type in "/gadget delete RangeFinder1" to get rid of it, then just add another range finder to your screen.

    I really should create a UI for that sort of thing, or not let them fall off the screen :)

    In the current version of the addon, these sorts of adjustments to frames can only be made be editing the templates themselves. The focus of v0.4 is around allowing you to alter any aspect of a template, but that's probably at least a week away from being ready for release. Sorry!

    The box behind the raid frames is due to a limitation of the RIFT API. If we enable 'Click to Target' functionality, the RIFT client doesn't allow us to hide or move frames while in combat (to prevent automation). This means the area of the screen with the raid frames will always capture mouse clicks. The background colour is there to show you that there is something in the way, as the alternative is to have an invisible rectangle on your screen that doesn't respond to mouse clicks.
