Thanks for the response.  Glad to hear it's not out of the question.  Something done locally is exactly what I'd be looking for, mainly to find out where my brother is in warfronts.

    Mechanic Spy Preview

Coming to v1.0.0 is a new tool aimed at Raid Leaders and those responsible for calling out mechanics. Check it out on KBM's Facebook Page

is there a way to move the global screen warning text?

  • #66

Yes. You can move and resize it in the options screen (/kbmoptions) or by left clicking the little crown icon.

In the top left panel, under the KBM tab, select "Screen Alerts". Then, in the right panel [Screen Alerts], ensure the following are enabled. "Screen Alerts enabled", "Alert warning text enabled", "Show anchor (for positioning)".

You then need to close the Options window, and re-open it again (not by design, it's currently glitched). This will enable you to left click the "Alert Anchor" text on the screen and move it around, along with being able to resize it with the mouse wheel if "Unlock Text size (Mouse wheel)" is also checked.

The option to move the text isn't working correctly, but by closing and opening the options window will sort it out. I'll have it working as it did before next release.

    KBM French Version

Latest alpha version v0.9.9.r318 contains full French translations as updated by Céres@Brisesol (thank you!) for every encounter currently live in Rift and mechanics supported by the English and German versions of KBM.

For any French players who couldn't use KBM in their native language due to a large portion of unsupported encounters and/or mechanics, please try out the latest alpha version.

    New Translation System

v0.9.9r306 alpha is now live. New robust translation engine with report functionality. Check out the How To

Simply put. The new translation system ensures that translators no longer need to hunt down new translations in each file. The new command /kbmlocale will output all missing translations for the current language to log.txt in the RIFT Game folder. (it will also output to your chat, this is a Trion limitation)

All reported translations also provide information for which directory and file the dictionary definition group is located, along with the correct syntax for the code needed to apply the current languages' entry.

Trying this out in place of Raid killers, the GUI is much nicer, however, the only issue i face with it is I can't find a way to have the screen alerts flash only when it affects me. Perhaps i'm missing a setting or its not implemented. An example would be mind decay on akylios, i don't remember seeing an onscreen notification that I had it.

  • #58

I'm glad you brought this up. I was beginning to wonder if this was an issue or not. I've been watching videos and live streams of KBM on Akylios and noticing Mind Decay only seems to notify one of the 3 people (or so it seems) and is currently being investigated. Needless to say, once a fix is found it'll be pushed immediately. Just suprised you're the first person to mention it. Perhaps because it's unlikely to effect everyone and RNG means you could always be the person who gets/doesn't get the alert.

As for the Alert settings. All alerts are enabled by default under each encounter. Each individual Alert can be disabled, or partly disabled (ie: Just text or just screen flashes) or you can simply disable all alerts for that encounter. Bare in mind that Alerts in KBM are more advanced than those in Raid Killer and actually double as on-screen mechanic duration displays (not just a flash when something happens). Also, not all screen alerts flash, some are solid depending on the type. You can also set each individual alerts color.

All the above applies to mechanic timers (baring the screen flashes).

On a side note: There's a new mechanic monitor coming in the next version of KBM which lists effected players under any mechanic and this in turn will highlight any issue with multiple players being effected by buffs/debuffs and fix Mind Decay in the process.

Finally thanks for trying out KBM. I have no idea what Raid Killer does, so I can't draw comparisons. But, from videos I've seen we've both approached things differently. I can tell you that KBM is purely a tool for raiders and not a "journal" of some-sort with explanations of what each mechanic does. Everything is on by default, but anything can be disabled globally or individually to suit your needs/wants.

For first time users of KBM I recommend the first thing anyone does is set the global anchors for each of the tools available (Timers, Alerts, Tank-Swap Monitor, Phase Monitor and Encounter Timer/Enrage Timer). Then before each pull select only the mechanics you're interested in (Timers and Alerts tabs for each encounter). It may sound a bit much to start with, but KBM's settings are persistent between each version, so it's a one-time deal and can be customized on a per character basis (if you're a fan of alt raiding).

Your screen shouldn't flash if you're not effected. That would be an alert not working as intended. The only spells an alert will trigger for that are non person specific are those where a raid member needs to know when to prepare a GCD for an upcoming ability, for example.. cleansing "Excruciating Hex". If alerts like these do not effect you personally. You can turn them off individually within each encounter. This can be saved on a per character basis (and soon an option for saving Soul Specific layouts).

All alerts which are specific to a player will only alert you if you are effected, these are called Personal Alerts and are mentioned in the version log. Examples of personal alerts are: Suffocating Orb, Mind Decay (as of v0.9.9 - currently works in alpha for all 3 members), Mark of Oblivion, Ancient Flames, Destabilize Soul and Essence Transfer. There are others, but these are just some of the alerts which only display if you're effected (Personal Alert).

If the alerts are too much, feel free to re-size them in the options page, if you're tired of seeing an alert for something you don't care about, turn it off under the alerts tab for the encounter you're in. The options are extensive and fully featured and allow people to customize KBM how they want it. Unfortunately I don't have time to write default alert sets which change depending on role, skill lists and class automatically at the moment, as I have more important additions to KBM currently in progress. I do solo write this with the exception of Translators. But, the ability is there for the player to set it how they like per character.

    Quote from ramensama »

Well, raid killers will only do screen flashing if it affects you directly, like for contracts, mind decay, orb, etc. With KBM, by default it seems to flash the screen every time the spell is cast, which for many people, doesn't matter.

Its so annoying to see screen flashes if you aren't affected.

  • #60

Mind Decay, Orb and Contracts in KBM are personal alerts (not raid wide). There are other screen alerts for Raid Wide abilities and mechanics (such as Waves, Breaths, Cursed Blows and Hex), these can be turned off if you don't need to know about them. No mechanic which is meant for a single player will flash everyones screen (such as the three mentioned, and things like Mark of Oblivion).
