About Quest Finder

This is a simple little addon for finding missing quests in your current zone.

Currently Quest Finder tracks:

  • 2,217 Quests for Guardian and Defiant
  • 711 Quests for Guardian only
  • 752 Quests for Defiant only

Source Quest data file contains:

  • 13,743 Total Quests in Rift
  • 10,063 Repeatable Quests purged (Dailies, Weeklies)
  • 670 Quests purged as depreciated

  • /qfhelp
    List available commands in game.

  • /qfind
List missing quest(s) for your current location, and which quests you currently have in your log.

  • /qfind full
Same as above, except a Quest Summary will appear below each quest, with co-ordinates for the first objective (if available)

  • /qfind done
Lists all completed quests for the current zone.

  • /qfsetting
Change various settings in-game including chat tab use and silent mode. Type /qfhelp in game for a full list.

This will currently only list non-repeatable quests, as usually repeatable quests do not count towards Zone achievements. However, once a GUI is in place I do intend to provide full listings for all quests in any given area (including dailies), list quest givers and turn ins (with locations) and also link quest chains in order. There will possibly be the option to see full details of missing quests too.

I'm working on a way to incorporate start NPC's if available, via my database system using NPCs.xml. The issue is there is no way via the API to find the start NPC nor can you find an NPC's default location. It's getting there, and should hopefully be able to start display some map co-ords.

If you didn't know, "/qf full" will list some info about the Quest text, and where the first objectives for that quest can be found via map co-ords. There is usually enough info here to be able to at least search for the NPC online and figure out if it is part of a chain etc.

    Great addon, thank you.

My problem in using it is the quests listed in chat are quickly swallowed up and lost in other text streams. If I want to double check the coordinates for example I often have to redo the whole list, scroll up to find, etc.

It would be a heck of a lot easier if Quest Finder would offer the option to display the results in a window that  we could toggle. Or at least spit results to a log.

This is a great start but feels a wee bit hard to use atm due to the above.

I do intend to work on it, with a more interactive system linked to the actual Rift quest log. But, for now a work around is to make a macro as below (providing you have non-combat logging disabled by default).

    qf full

The above will turn on non-combat logging (if off) then output the missing quests with details and output them to log.txt in My Documents/Rift/

Hope this helps until I expand the Addon.

qf full didn't work for me but qfind full seemed to work.
Another a problem I had was logging would immedietly turn off, way before it's done scanning.

    So I modified mine to:

    qfind full
    wait 70

Which seemed to give the perfect amount of time for it finish scanning for Freemarch. Obviously different locales will have different times so adjust as wanted. Alternativtely you could just do

    qfind full

and manually type /log when it finishes.

Either way you're gonna have to go into that log file and chop out the extras.

Just installed this add on, and used it.  Add on lists that I have 13 quests in a zone that I haven't completed, but gives no indication what the quests are, nor where they would be, contradictory of the above description.

Nevermind.  Happened to scroll up in my chat log and found that it did, indeed, list quest names. "Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain." Great add on.

Thank you for this add-on! To be able to go back and make sure I have completed a zone is so nice. My only suggestions would be..

    1) possibly remove any quests that are no longer in the game (I noticed several old world event quests in the list of uncompleted quests, also old wardstone quests)

    2) possibly a way to check off quests that you can't complete due to faction or crafting professions (guess this would also work if you want to check off old world event quests too). (I still saw some guardian quests in Ember Isle when I was checkingn to see what quests I have yet to complete.)

Even if this can't be done, I am super happy to have this add-on. I can't stand wondering if I have found all the !'s lying around the new SL zones. <3 Keep up the great work!

(even made an account on curse in order to post a reply hehe).

    Thanks for the kind feedback.

And as for both points, I'm planning ways to address these. My plan so far is to have a GUI element with my own version of a Quest tracker, which you should be able to run in tandem or as an extra list. This would allow you to manually blacklist any quest you're positive falls in to the categories you highlighted.

Of course, over time I'll add confirmed blacklisted quests, and account for missing faction assigned quests - but I'd like to give people a simple way of supplying this data (something else I'll be working on).

Oh thank you for your reply! I'm definitely going to keep my eye on this page. <3
