About ChatFilter

Description

ChatFilter enhances the chat log allowing you to:

  • Modify a channel's name or format
  • Replace matching text/phrases with something else
  • Censor messages based on content or sender, without filling up your ignore list
  • Copy text from any ChatFilter filter

ChatFilter works by hiding the real filters and mirroring all the messages to the new filters that you have setup. While being mirrored, messages can be modified or censored using the replacements, blacklist and ignore features.

Dependencies

Optional

LibSlash is needed to use the slash commands.
LibAddonButton is needed to use the configuration button.

Configuration

The settings can be accessed by clicking the gear icon or using the slash command:
/chatfilter or /cf

By default, Say, Party, Region and Advice chat are setup to use ChatFilter. No blacklists or ignores are setup by default.

Adding a filter

To add a filter, access the settings, click the Filters button and then click the New Filter button. On the Filter window, select a filter to modify. Although the log type can be manually set, it is not recommended, since the filter will not be displayed properly.

When setting a filter's format, the %name variable will always be "Combat" if the filter is a part of the combat log.

To enable, disable or remove a filter, on the Filters window, right click a filter and select enable/disable or remove.

Replacements

Replacements can be used to modify messages by replacing matching text with something else. To add a replacement, on the Replacement window, click the New Replacement button. To remove a replacement, right click it and select remove.

Blacklist

The blacklist contains words or phrases that are used to censor messages. If an item in the blacklist can be matched to anything in the message, the message will not be shown. To add an item to the blacklist, on the Blacklist window, click the New Blacklist button. To remove a blacklist, right click it and select remove.

Ignore

Like the blacklist, the ignore list is used to censor message. If the sender of the message matches someone in the ignore list, the message will not be shown. To add an item, on the Ignore window, click the New Ignore button. To remove an item, right click it and select remove.

Restore

On the Restore window, clicking the restore button will disable all filters and restore your chat log settings.

Clipboard

The clipboard allows you to copy messages from the chat log.

To show the clipboard, right click a chat tab and select Clipboard. The last 20 messages that belong to a ChatFilter filter on the selected tab will be shown.

Blacklisted

For amusement, the ignored counter shows how many messages have been censored, the duration and how many per second. To show the ignored counter, use the command:
/cf ignored, /cf blacklisted or /cf censored

  • Fixed an error that prevented unicode characters from displaying in chat
  • Fixed an error where unicode characters would break the clipboard

I cannot get this addon to install. I tried manual and Cure Client. When I try to install via cure client nothing happens, no download or install.

After manual install addon still will not show in game/addon panel.

EDIT: Wow...Nvm mind. Was trying to install for a different game.

Is poosible add something like "white list" where I add messages what I only want to see?
  • #15
Yes it could be possible, but it's as dangerous as adding the blacklist ".*", where you suddenly realize... why is chat so quiet?
  • #16
:-) We want combinating TidyRoll and ChatFilter. In one chat tab we want show just Warlord and Royal crests rolls and hide all other:-)
  • #17
Whitelists are in 1.0.4. They're set up individually rather than globally (for each filter).

Just make sure you don't do something crazy, like adding a whitelist for a general channel and never seeing anything.

To pass a whitelist test, a message has to match at least 1 item in the whitelist, so for your example, just add warlord and royal to the whitelist (for whatever filter that may be).

Hmm.. the filter "Coin" doesn't seem to recognise the coins you recive from battle, only the contribution to guild taxes and tith is printed out but not the coins you earned. Or is it just me that has set it up wrong?
  • #13
"You receive X silver and X brass coins" is part of the coin filter and is shown when you have a filter set up for it. You most likely happen to have a blacklist that matches it.

I try add text: "You have successfully converted" into blacklist but its dont work. I just instal addon and dont change anything else.

Only channels that are setup with ChatFilter will be modified in any way.

Step 1. Get v1.0.3 (because I just added system log support)
Step 2. Under settings, select filters and add a new filter
    Step 3.

Select "System General" as the filter and "System" as the log type
For the channel format, erase the default and leave it blank so you don't see [System General][System]: ...

You will never see that message again.
  • #9
Works thx:-) But after that some other system messages like someone logged in show twice. I try disable default system filter in chat window, disable both, enable both ect but still show.
  • #10
I assume you made the filter in v1.0.2 then upgraded to v1.0.3?

Click the filter). It should read:
Select the filter you want to modify and its log type
    [System General] [System]

That will probably fix the problems as this was the only way I could reproduce it.
  • #11
Yes I have that. But its starts after force restart so I try reinstal it.

i dunno man, just started using this and it worked perfectly. the only problem i had was that after i added blacklists, i had to delete the filter for the channels and remake the filter. dunno why, mabey a reloadui would have fixed it. i had 600+ lines of goldspammer in advice(not kidding i copied it with tidy chat and it said 600-something lines) and they all just disappeared instantly =D

mabey try reinstalling the mod or run a file check on your game to see if you find the problem.

edit above: after reading finalfatex's replies below i experimented some and found that as you activate a filter in cf, it activates the in-game filter(which means that when i activated the cf advice filter the 600 lines of spam currently in advice disappeared) which i confused with cf blocking that spam. sorry about the confusion.

on a good note: during the 23 minutes that i was playing around with this, cf deleted 520 messages from spammers on badlands =) so yes the mod is working

The posted screen shot of the counter is from Iron Rock and was the highest spams per second out the servers. Lowest pop, highest spam. Go figure...
