About Guard Enhancement System (Ges)

The Guard Enhancement System or Ges tries to cover all of your guarding needs.

It automatically notifies party members who your guarding (your Guardee) and just as importantly when you stop guarding.

It has a visual monitor to help you track your Guardee's health and status as well as a visual tracker that helps you to easily locate you Guardee in even the heaviest fights. The tracker and monitor have the ability to monitor your Guardees health and change colour as their health drops below configurable thresholds and will even play sounds to help get the point across.

Everything is configurable through an easy to use GUI setup window, enabling you to turn functionality on and off with the push of a button, customise colours, thresholds and sounds, and create your own custom notification messages.

Ges is designed to be fully configurable to suit your play style (I hope) and if not, leave your suggestions in the comments section below.

Version 1.1 enhancements:

  • Added option to turn off the automated party announcements.
  • Added the ability to make the monitor icon click-through...able.

  • Enhanced the Activation processes to more accurately reflect the Guard abilities status
  • Fixed an issues where the monitor click-through...able functionality would not persist past log off
  • Altered the Threshold edit boxes to accept numbers only
  • Altered the Offset edit boxes to apply the visual offset preview as the numbers are being typed

Version 1.2 enhancements:

  • Added functionality to allow communication with the GDes addon
  • Added options to play a sound on the Guard enable and disable events

Version 1.21 fixes:

  • Fixed an issue where Ges was activating when the friendly target was nil.
  • Fixed an issue channel where Join/Leaving messages were spamming in chat.

Version 1.3 fixes:

  • Fixed channel communications to cater for changes in the Warhammer 1.3.6 patch

Acknowledgments:

  • Usurps for the awesome work on the shield icons.
  • Snotslinga and Musanna for their endless ideas that made this mod so much bigger than intended.
  • All the tanks of Dominus Nocturnus who tested the mod and left me with hours of bug fixes.
  • Taldren for the initial inspiration for this mod.

Note: This addon has a dependency on the Libslash addon in order to run.

Further Note: If you would like Ges to speak in your native language please click here and add the appropriate translations. Russian translations are ready to go, just awaiting another language before I enable localization.

Bah, no thanks for the person that recommended it to you? :p ;)

    Great work :)
  • #39
That's true. Huge Mega thanks to Taldren for the initial idea for the core element of this mod. Have you noticed that half of these post are from people wanting to turn the core element off?
  • #40
the core element is a great aspect of the mod too. there's just also times when you'll need to turn it off for obvious reasons :P~

now give me that update xD~~~ ahhhaa
keep up the great work mate.

I'm still trying to lock down this flickering that you and Nonstopgamer have notified me of. I could replicate it with the initial version of the mod by leaving a party whilst having guard on someone. But I fixed that and now can't replicate the flickering under any circumstances under version 1.11.

Can you explain how you generate the bug? or send an e-mail to medikage@gmail.com and I'll walk you through some of the debugging options inside Ges, so you can give me more info on the cause.

But just so you know... i've seen this happen in both sc and pve dungeon (tovl).
I would take guard off someone, and then put guard on someone else, but the guard icon would show up on someone else, usually the person who i was previuosly guarding. It happens regardless of whether i spam guard or not.

I'm still trying to figure out a reliable way to reproduce the bug.

In the mean time... could u push out a mini fix for that "save click through" setting first :P~
  • #46
Ok, I've made some changes to the piece of code that turns Ges off as well as changing the activation code to simply blow away all previous settings so this should go a long way in solving the issue. I need to do some testing to ensure I haven't broken anything and should be able to post a new version of Ges up in a few days time.

Hi mate, been waiting for this update :)~
glad to see you pulled through quickly.
I've got one bug for ya. The settings for "Click-through-able" guard doesn't seem to save across sessions.
If you log out and log back in it will automatically turn off.
  • #34
Confirmed. It's in the tracker :)

Actually it won't take that long to fix but I am conscious of continually posting up fixes so i'll hold off until this weekend and bundle the fix in with the enhancement release.
  • #36
Looking forward to that fix :P~ Great job on this.

I think the only problem now is the same problem nonstopgamer has with the guard icon not updating to correct players when changing through mashing. Is that possible to fix?
  • #29
Absolutely LOVE it! So useful seeing the little shield (huge shield if far away :p) running around.
Hard to imagine doing anything without it now! THANK YOU so much for this :)

Thank you so much for ver. 1.1! It's just as I hoped it would be!
I think I found a bug tho, or could be the way it was intended? When you change multiple settings across the tabs, and click on Save, it will only save whatever tab you have opened when you clicked Saved. Example: Say I switch from "Shout" to "Don't Announce" under General tab, then go to Extras tab and click the "Enable the feature" box and then click Save. After I close the GUI, the only option really saved would be the one under Extras, as I would still be announcing to Shout.
  • #24
Not a bug, that's the way I designed it. There are a lot of options and I didn't want ppl saving changes they didn't mean to and then spend alot of time working out what happened. So you need to save after you have made changes to each tab.

Found another bug it seems. When I was doing a scenario I had 2 other chosens in the party. After I guarded the healer one of the other chosens guarded him as well, so I switched my guard to someone else. Problem was that the healer I had initially guarded still has the icon for being guarded (most likely because the program sees it having a guard on him), and doesn't show any icons at all for the person I am guarding now.
