About Squared

About Squared

Squared is a highly-customizable unit frame addon similar to the widely-known WoW addon "Grid". It provides a very compact view of health for you, your group, your warband, or your scenario. Clicking on a square will target the associated player.

Notes about recent patches

3.8.10 (Patch 1.4.1): Improved compability with game profile system and fixed tooltips.

3.8.9 (Patch 1.4.0): Fixed 1.4.0 changes: CareerLines changes

3.8.8 (Patch 1.3.6): Fixed 1.3.6 changes: RightClick Menus and Assist, compatible with PTS Built 527.

3.8.7 (Patch 1.3.5): If you were using the "Plain" textures (the defaults), change them to something else to make Squared work properly again. There's a "Plain (1.3.5)" option if you want to maintain the same appearance.

Added in 3.7: Tooltips for units in group/warband mode. Hold down the shift key while mousing over a unit to view its tooltip.

3.6 features a fairly significant optimization for WAR 1.2. I highly recommend upgrading to it for decreased lag when in large groups.

Added in 3.5: Easy exporting and importing of settings. The panel to do so is in the GUI.

Added in 3.4: Toggle/settings button. By default, it's located on the left side of the minimap, but you can move it wherever you wish from the Layout Editor. Left-clicking the toggle button will show/hide Squared (same as changing the "completely disable Squared" setting), while right-click will show/hide the Squared Configurator.

Added in 3.3: Settings profiles. Profiles allow you to keep different sets of settings and swap among them at will. In addition, each character will remember which profile they were using last, and automatically load that profile when logging in to the character.

(For more details all on Squared versions, see the change log.)

Settings

To open the configuration GUI, type /sqr (or /squared).

For command-line config, see the settings page for configuration options (as well as color settings).

If you want to use the settings for one of the user-submitted examples, find the specific one you want in the Squared Image Gallery and click on its name to go to the description page, which will have a Squared Import Format block that you can plug into Squared's Import Settings window.

Reporting bugs and requesting features

While I monitor many difference places, including Curse/CurseForge comments, various forums, and email, I give the highest priority to bugs and feature requests which are posted on the Squared Ticket Tracker on Lighthouse.

Other tools

For click-casting, see ISHealBot.

For range-fading, see RangeFadingSquared.

For saving cpu ressources, I suggest using DeepSleep.

Addon developers interested in developing plugins for Squared should look at the Squared plugin API page.

Miscellaneous

I wasn't going to put up a donation link at first, but enough people have asked/prodded me about it that I figured I might as well. Please, don't feel pressured to donate, I enjoy writing addons just for the sake of helping out, but if you really want to, there's a Pledgie campaign here.

How can I move it around on my screen? I've been through the options a few times. Am I missing something?
  • #1558
There“s an anchor accessible via the games Layout Editor.

I kinda have the same problem... and i think it has smth to do with rangefadingsquared, my target colour is white but sometimes when out of LOS instead of the squares fading the borders just turn red for some reason and the squares stop fading/unfading... its been driving me insane, i've tried all version of squared and always the same issue, even deleted my user and interface folders but no good, it worked fine couple of months ago, any idea what the problem could be? I dont want the borders to change colours based on LOS,i just want them to fade like it used to.
  • #1555
    Will look into it asap.
  • #1556
Thank you, i thought i messed up rangefadingsquared settings but since i already resetted everything to default i dunno whats wrong, i noticed that each rangefadingsquared sphere has a colour and value and all spheres have alpha enabled, is that how it should be ? I dont remember seeing that when it worked fine, i tried playing with the settings but it only made it worse so.. :P

RangeFadingSquared v1.3.3 adds the option to not change the targets border color.
  • #1553
    Some bugs in Misc. Colors
I set (My Traget to red) & click my group then My Traget color back to white.
  • #1550
Is there any chance that you could code this add on to separate your group from the rest?
  • #1551
Agreed, like put your group as the first group, or an option to show your group only in a WB. Or at least some way to easily differentiate such as a marker, colored border, etc.
  • #1552
colored border is supported since ages, just look at the above screenshots.
  • #1547
Another question too - I noticed last night that my frames seemed to be much slower than the default frames in updating the health of groupmates (often it was showing 60% health or so when targeting them showed me full, or vice versa). I changed the update speed from 0.5 to 0.001, 0, and 0.1, and it seemed to make no difference. Is there a minimum speed for that setting, or some other way to make it show as close to real time as possible?
  • #1546
OK, nevermind - I figured out how to do it (groups down, columns right, column size 2, if anyone's wondering), but I'm running into an error now. If I turn test mode on, the test groups don't show the way they do if I'm actually in a group...and only a ui reload will disable the test groups - turning it off in the options does nothing and the /sqr testmode false command gives an error and says to let the author know.
  • #1549
I know out of date now as new version up for 1.4 but to get the test mode to go away i just unchecked test and pressed apply 2 times instead of 1 to make them go away.
  • #1548
    What was the error message?
  • #1543
I must be missing something, but is there a way to make the groups be 2x2 instead of 4 groups wide or 4 tall? Like say group 1 in top left, 2 below it, 3 next to 1, and 4 next to 2?
