Archy 1.8.23 (and later if the bug persists) adds an option to the warning dialog to "Ignore" the incompatible TomTom setting at your own risk.
It will not bug you again for the current Archy version.
(Just remember that if Archy does bug out you need to manually uncheck quest automation in TomTom and restart)
Visit Ticket 60 @ TomTom for any progress.
Press "Ignore" instead of "no" and it won't popup again for the current Archy version.
Thanks for the response Dridzt (great character in a great series btw... long time fan). I see the conversation with Cladhaire took place pretty much a month ago, so looking unlikely to be adressed anytime soon. Archy is invaluable and I don't know how I'd have managed without it! I'll just hope for the best and continue to click "no" on login. Keeping the fingers crossed for a solution one day. :)
I just want to say thanks for the addon, thanks for the constant updates and thanks for taking the time to answer comments. You're a real Grade A addon developer.
Hello, I like your addon. Thanks.
But, it may be staring me in the face, is there a way to disable the addon except when required, it seems to slow logging on considerably?
You can uncheck the addon from the addon selection screen before you enter the game for characters that don't have (or you're not interested) Archaeology but if you mean something automatic, no there's no way to disable the addon other than avoid loading for characters that will not use it.
Edit: I want to be clear Archy does not show an increased memory consumption once loaded (not much memory churn, garbage generated once loaded) or cpu usage which is what could affect performance.
In other words it is not a particularly heavy addon once in the game, but it does add some load screen time on initial logon (0.5-0.8 sec of which 0.1-0.2 is for loading Blizzard Archaeology UI).
I am using this addon on two characters. On my main loading never has been a problem, but on the other there's a significant difference. After loading that character the display simply freezes for like 3 seconds. I have yet to find what's causing this, but I experience the same as paulus1.
I had a longer reply posted with some technical details but figured you had read it and wanted to keep the comment space clean so removed it after a couple days.
The number I mention is the time Archy adds on its own, other addons will also cause some delay and it all adds up.
You can use WarmUp to get a more accurate reading on your own system (overall pc performance also plays a part).
After you load with WarmUp enabled do /wu to get a table with all addon details and time added to your load per addon and total.
Thanks, yes I was not worried about its memory usage, it was the load time which, subjectively at least, seemed somewhat longer than your numbers. But you have answered my question. Thanks.
Hi, Thank you for this excellent addon.
I have a proposal: I think it's possible to implement overlay map (what is used by archeology helper), but in an automatic mode (without any user action) :
- Player dig a first point
- He goes on a second point, and then the addon add the overlay from the previous dig point to current dig point, the choice of the color is automatic depending on the distance of the two points.
(for overlays, see : http://media-curse.cursecdn.com/attachments/14/541/4f7350f75d6e83ce9dcf8ac61e560fca.jpg )
Blizzard took steps to prevent drawing exact overlays in relation to the player to break AVR several months ago.
That means addons can only know the position (x,y) and facing (radians) of the player avatar and not the camera (your viewport into the game world).
It is for this reason that Archaeology Helper is so cumbersome to use, requiring you to rotate your char precisely and manually pick the distance.
I'm not convinced the extra operations (extra clicks and precise character placement) speed up digging; automation is not possible.
Check the mini-guide to fewer digs from the Archy development site instead.
Is there a way to make Carbonite addon considered as "Tom Tom support can stay turned on"? Carbonite takes the TomTom arrow information sent by Archy and displays it with it's own arrow and path. The only problem is that on login Archy checks if there is TomTom enabled and turns off the TomTom support since Carbonite is not exactly TomTom.
Edit: Some punctuation missing in this post.
I'll take a look although I'm reluctant to expand the support for 3rd party addons; it tends to overcomplicate debugging problems when you need to check the interactions of (a) to (b) to (c) to ... where a bug in any of those can potentially break the others.
Is there any way to just hide the tooltip when mousing over the minimap icon? It is VERY annoying to have that huge window pop up just because the mouse got too close to it especially during combat. All the info I need is in the info windows. basically I'd just like the minimap icon to just toggle the addon on and off.
Absolutely love the addon! Thanks!
Forgive the roundabout way I'll answer your question/request.
Afaik the tooltip only shows out of combat.
I believe most LDB displays (like Fortress, Chocolate, Titan Panel etc) have options for controlling the tooltip on their own. If you have one of those you could turn the minimap icon off completely from Archy options and control the tooltip from your LDB display addon.
If you don't have or want an LDB display you can still hide the minimap button from Archy options and set / use a keybind to toggle Archy with a keypress.
You can find keybinds for Archy at Game Menu (Esc) -> Key bindings.
Just bind something to "Toggle Archy" and hide the minimap icon if you're only using it as a toggle.
That said I'll look at adding an option (tooltip visible by default as I think that's the most common usage) but is a low priority item.
