About Archaeology Helper

Archaeology Helper accelerates your surveying by providing triangulation on a Heads-Up Display (HUD)

  • Survey then press green, yellow or red button to add new sector to the HUD and narrow down the position of your fragment
  • HUD optionally includes GatherMate2 pins showing possible fragment positions, further accelerating the process
  • Shows Dig Sites on Battlefield Minimap
  • Keybindings and various settings

How to use

Go to dig site, Right Click last button (spade) to show HUD and Left Click to cast Survay. Then ROTATE YOUR CHAR, BUT DON'T MOVE in the needed direction and press colored button according to Survey result. Move to other location, do same again.
It is strongly recommended to use in conjunction with GatherMate2, which will show all previous or imported dig-points on the HUD. When using GatherMate2 jump onto fragment before gathering! GatherMate2 data accuracy depends on that. Minimap zoom buttons also zoom the HUD display.

Left Click main window to move it
Right Click main window: opens config

Left Click on colored button: adds new sector to the HUD
Right Click on colored button: temporarily hide/show that color

Arrow button: undo last sector

Left Click spade: cast Survey
Right Click spade: show/hide the HUD
Middle Click spade: open Archaeology window

Use "/arh" or "/arhcfg" for command line help

On the HUD you can also see player arrow in the center and very small red circle that represents survey success range. And ofc all colored transparent overlapping areas that were set by you with colored buttons.

I will second an option to hide non-overlapping areas once there is more than 1 arc showing for a survey!

Otherwise, still an extremely useful and excellent addon!

There is some sort of issue with changing the HUD scale. Initially I had it set at ~.6 or .7 and then at some point it randomly reset back to 1; but the setting was still at .6. So .6 was now essentially 1 and I had to drop it to like .3 to get it the correct size (the text remains the same, so the N S E W on the compass are tiny tiny). Then it just did it again and setting the ACTUAL HUD scale setting back to 1 makes like the little red ring around the arrow almost the same size as I'd like the normal HUD to be - it's gigantic. Really makes it unusable if you can't see anything. Hopefully thats enough information.

Hmm for some reason either i am using the mod wrong or its not working right. Because i follow the steps and click the button and see the color red green or yellow but what the heck does that have to do anything with the profession LOL how does that help u find items easier??? TNX

Is there a way to use conditionals in a macro to control ARH?. Specifically, I don't want a keybind, because I need them during combat. However, I'd like to have a way to do:

    X dig
    Alt+X fly
    Ctrl+X Set Red Range
    Shift+X Set Yellow Range
    ? Set Green Range

Right now I have a macro with:
    #showtooltip Survey
    /cancelaura [nomod:alt] Swift Flight Form
    /cast [mod:alt] Swift Flight Form
    /cast Survey

Which makes it easy to hit "1" to survey, then "Alt+1" to fly off to the next dig. (310 flying until Survey is off CD, is approximately middle of yellow range.)

I can certainly create a macro with:
    /arh ay

But I haven't found a way to add modifiers.

Great work! Thank you! Please consider adding a checkmark in the options for "Full Circle" instead of arc segment. The way I use your add-on right now, is I literally turn in place and paint a full circle around my character. It's really hard to do and takes a long time. If you make full circles (and donuts) it would be so much easier!!! Thanks!!

This is a really great addon, thanks for the good work. is there a plan to add localization to support other languages than english? it would be good to have it in german for my guildmembers and me. if you need translators, i can do this for the german language.

The newest gm2 has an option to only display arch nodes in zones with active sites, so you can cross that one off your list as it pulls them off your hud too:)

The not displaying non-arch gm nodes on the hud would be cool too, if possible.
I dont have a mining char, does the hud affect ore node display?
  • #100
The non-arch nodes on the hud doesnt seem to be all of them. For example fishing ones are left on the minimap and dont go to the hud.

This is by far the greatest Archaeology addon, keep up the good work.
  • #97
For some reason, in The Broken Commons (by Dire Maul), the hud display disappears in certain areas.

Ok, this add on works for me, but the problem is it's completely unnecessary imo. It takes an already simple task and adds steps to it that don't really give you much in the way of making the job easier. If anything this add on generates extra steps to an already easy profession.

You either haven't been doing archaeology for very long, or you are using the plugin incorrectly then. Either way, your feedback is incorrect and not needed.
  • #94
So don't use it? Common sense is hard.

version 0.9 bugged out on macro, I use macro to do /arh ar to add red, and do the same for yellow and green, it's not working anymore so I revert back to 0.83
  • #92
sorry for that, have not checked.
fixed in 0.91, also commands to "toggle color" and "remove last" are added now.
