About Archaeology Helper

Archaeology Helper accelerates your surveying by providing triangulation on a Heads-Up Display (HUD)

  • Survey then press green, yellow or red button to add new sector to the HUD and narrow down the position of your fragment
  • HUD optionally includes GatherMate2 pins showing possible fragment positions, further accelerating the process
  • Shows Dig Sites on Battlefield Minimap
  • Keybindings and various settings

How to use

Go to dig site, Right Click last button (spade) to show HUD and Left Click to cast Survay. Then ROTATE YOUR CHAR, BUT DON'T MOVE in the needed direction and press colored button according to Survey result. Move to other location, do same again.
It is strongly recommended to use in conjunction with GatherMate2, which will show all previous or imported dig-points on the HUD. When using GatherMate2 jump onto fragment before gathering! GatherMate2 data accuracy depends on that. Minimap zoom buttons also zoom the HUD display.

Controls

Left Click main window to move it
Right Click main window: opens config

Left Click on colored button: adds new sector to the HUD
Right Click on colored button: temporarily hide/show that color

Arrow button: undo last sector

Left Click spade: cast Survey
Right Click spade: show/hide the HUD
Middle Click spade: open Archaeology window

Use "/arh" or "/arhcfg" for command line help

HUD

On the HUD you can also see player arrow in the center and very small red circle that represents survey success range. And ofc all colored transparent overlapping areas that were set by you with colored buttons.

Have you pressed last of 4 buttons (spade) once to show HUD?
You will not see any result of red, yellow, green buttons untill HUD is visible.

Doh, I feel so stupid now :(
    Works now! Thanks!

Very nice addon, though I can't seem to find any way to turn off the minimap blobs. "/arh mm" doesn't do anything other than toggle the little UI box. I'm running 0.6, for the record.

0.7 file is not approved by administration yet, hope it will be in hour or few... commands support is added in 0.7

So far seems like a great mod! Very useful! I'm just wondering if there's any way to make the row of buttons and spade larger? I keep accidentally clicking the wrong color!

Options will be implemented next, for now you can use
    /run Arh_MainFrame:SetScale(1.5)

    thanks mucho :)

Not sure if you fixed it with the latest update, but the red digging zone shape that is added to the minimap will show on my screen, even if it's nowhere close to being on my minimap yet. Having a random red shape in the middle of the screen is somewhat annoying. XP I'm using nUI btw, so that may be part of the reason. In anycase, just having that shape disabled when the buttons are hidden would be fine. When I'm actually digging, I don't care if it's in the middle of my screen as much.

Its problem with blizzard's DigSites Frame. No way to hold it withing Minimap.
Now it's "Off" by default untill i find some solution...
  • #13
You can open up arh.lua and edit the 0.1 on lines 76, 78 and 80 to 0.2 or 0.3 and that makes them clearer.

Also, a potential bug is that if I have the HUD enabled but I toggle the addon with /arh the pointer of the HUD still shows in the centre of the screen.
  • #15
Another issue is that after you toggle the addon, the digsite outlines still show on the minimap, but they don't move relative to your position.

Best triangulation addon so far! I agree with other comments about making the arcs a darker color (or let it be configurable).

    Other suggestion:

    1. Best guess of known dig-place with TomTom arrow pointing towards it. (if you triangulated a couple of times and only one known dig cover all areas guess that its the one)
  • #44
Yes, i planed to suggest known point too. But at least need big database of points first. GatherMate2_Data does not include any. still.
  • #14
You can just toggle twice instead of once to apply two layers and make them darker.
  • #10
Great add on, the Gathermate2 compatibility is great, was using it already so it was nice being able to recover those pin point locations :).

A nice feature would be to be able to Reset the different areas being displayed on screen. Some surveys, you eventually end up having 3-4 layers of red before being close for a yellow and it would be nice to just clean up the screen before adding any more colours.
