AI's display windows are built from "virtual bars", you assign categories to bars so that items in that category are displayed on the specific bars you want. There is no limit to the number of bars you can have inside a window but obviously you only have so much screen real estate before it becomes "too many".

AI uses several methods to assign a default category to an item such as what professions you have, tooltip scanning, basic type/subtype and PeriodicTable. You then assign those categories to a virtual bar.

You can also over-ride the default category by creating a rule that matches either a single or multiple items.

  • unlimited number of bars (there are practical limits though before your screen becomes full)
  • assign items to a category of your choice (overrides the default assignment)
  • assign categories to the bar of your choice
  • configurable bars per row
  • configurable width
  • separate keybindings for each location for easy viewing

Key Bindings:
Press ESCAPE to bring up the blizzard menu
click on Key Bindings
scroll down to ArkInventory
bind the keys you want to use

See ReadMe.txt and VersionHistory.txt for further details

Beta Versions:

ensure you make a backup copy of your saved variables file before installing a beta version - you normally cannot revert back to the release version without that backup. your saved variable file is normally located in World of Warcraft\WTF\Account\yourwowaccountname\SavedVariables\ArkInventory.lua

if you have the curse client set to download beta versions then it is your responsibility to ensure you have adequate backups of your saved variables file - do not complain if you lose them or they get screwed up because you installed a beta version, its what beta versions tend to do.

a simple way to back it up is to just do a copy and paste then rename the new file (using the version number of AI or the date is a good idea), eg ArkInventory-3-01-09.lua, or ArkInventory-2013-12-28.lua

Right, I've been living with my AI not working properly for so many months now. Every time i speak to a vendor, open my mailbox, open a trade window, got to the AH etc etc. my BANK Bag auto opens, with a lag spike. It's so annoying, and also dangerous in raids when people trade me. I can't seem to find anything about this, is there a fix or something? If so, please link it to me or just explain how I get rid of this. It's soon forcing me to remove AI, and I really don't want that to happen :(
  • #1538
rename the arkinventory saved variables file and then run wow, see if it still happens. (dont delete it as you might want the rules and setup)

ive never seen it so i dont know why its doing it unless something in the data has corrupted somehow.

the error is from an uncached item name i just cant see why the search pattern im using is wrong. ill keep looking.

Hello Arkayenro, i loveyour addon, but i hate this issue You have already a translator? I can help you if you want. Btw, is there a way to turn off, the error display messages on the window chat meanwhile? Thank you, keep it doing good work.
  • #1534
i have an esMX locale, no one has submitted any translations yet though. it doesnt matter it multiple people work on the file as i usually merge them together anyway.
  • #1517
Love this addon! One thing I'd like to see is the ability to change the size of the bag display, kind of like Bartender let's you change the size of bars etc. The display is SOOO big it covers most of the screen and is at times very cumberson. Also the ability to only select one of your original bags to view would be nice. For when questing and you need to keep track of how many of a certain item you have. It's impossible to run with the big window up.
  • #1518
theres a scale option in the config menu.

you can restrict which bags you want to view at any time. to display just the contents of a single bag open the bagchanger window and right click on the bag in question and chose isolate.
  • #1512
has anyone else noticed the bug where arkinventory will open at everything even though nothing is marked? i have it set to NOT open at the mail at the ah at the vendor but it still does. please fix this. or tell me how to do it and i will do it. thank you. if you need more info please let me know. i love arkinventory and woudl be lost without it.
  • #1514
its just the mailbox and vendors, blizzard added code to automatically open your backpack when you opened those - i cant stop it from happening so i'll be disabling those options in the next version so as not to confuse people.

talking to an auctionerr will not auto open your bag unless you have it set that way or another mod is doing it.
  • #1506
I have searched for this everywhere in the options and on google without luck. I used ArkInventory a while ago and I am sure I was able to configure how many rows and columns of items they displayed. Now some of them are 2 items high and 7 wide, while some are 3x4 for example.

Is there any way I can adjust this to make them cleaner and more even?

    Thanks in advance.
  • #1513
theres no way to set the sizes of the individual categories, you can only set the number of items wide and how many bars are in each row.
  • #1504
I really need help, this addon is by far the best inventory addon I've ever seen, but recently I've been coming across an error that makes AI useless. Everytime I open my bag, I get an error message and the bag's settings are all weirded out. I can't see any items in the bag, nor can I see any of the bars I have in the bag. I have searched everywhere, but I can't find anyone at all with a problem similar to mine.

I haven't made any recent updates or installed any addons which might have caused this, it just happened all of a sudden. I was playing as usual, and everything was working fine. Then I looged off of WoW, came back a few hours later, logged back in, and there the problem was.

Here's the error message, perhaps someone can make any sense out of it.

Please, if anyone knows the cause of this problem, and/or how to correct it, I need help! I really don't want to use another bag addon, or worse yet, none at all, since I really like all the sorting, organization, and customization options of AI.

  • #1542
I have a problem, every once and a while, if WoW crashes it completely resets all my settings to default for AI. I lose all of my seperate tabs, all the rules containing what is in each tab, andall of my sorting rules, is there any way to import the settings or back them up or something, this gets extremely irritating.

    Thank you for any help
