AI's display windows are built from "virtual bars", you assign categories to bars so that items in that category are displayed on the specific bars you want. There is no limit to the number of bars you can have inside a window but obviously you only have so much screen real estate before it becomes "too many".

AI uses several methods to assign a default category to an item such as what professions you have, tooltip scanning, basic type/subtype and PeriodicTable. You then assign those categories to a virtual bar.

You can also over-ride the default category by creating a rule that matches either a single or multiple items.

  • unlimited number of bars (there are practical limits though before your screen becomes full)
  • assign items to a category of your choice (overrides the default assignment)
  • assign categories to the bar of your choice
  • configurable bars per row
  • configurable width
  • separate keybindings for each location for easy viewing

Key Bindings:
Press ESCAPE to bring up the blizzard menu
click on Key Bindings
scroll down to ArkInventory
bind the keys you want to use

See ReadMe.txt and VersionHistory.txt for further details

Beta Versions:

ensure you make a backup copy of your saved variables file before installing a beta version - you normally cannot revert back to the release version without that backup. your saved variable file is normally located in World of Warcraft\WTF\Account\yourwowaccountname\SavedVariables\ArkInventory.lua

if you have the curse client set to download beta versions then it is your responsibility to ensure you have adequate backups of your saved variables file - do not complain if you lose them or they get screwed up because you installed a beta version, its what beta versions tend to do.

a simple way to back it up is to just do a copy and paste then rename the new file (using the version number of AI or the date is a good idea), eg ArkInventory-3-01-09.lua, or ArkInventory-2013-12-28.lua

Heya, just picked this mod up, it's working great so far. I'm just curious if there's any way to have the setup different for my different characters, the setup I want for my hunter is different for what I'd want for my shaman, but it seems like you can only make one overarching scheme for all characters, am I missing something here or is that how it is?
  • #1546
each character defaults to using the same "default" profile - just create another profile and that character will start using it - means you have to set each one up though. you can shose which profile a character uses so you can share them across some of your toons.
  • #1540
The Baggins mod allows automatic visual compression of multiple stacks of the same item (e.g. while 60 Frostweave Cloth will still of course take 3 actual slots, the Baggins bag will show them as a single stack of 60). This can really cut down on the visual real estate needed and also makes it much simpler to know just how many items I have for things I hold on to in bulk. I much prefer many of ArkInventory's features, but without the visual compression, it's just too unwieldy for me. Any chance of adding this type of functionality? Thanks.
  • #1545
at this point, no. i presume you've scaled the window down and that still doesnt help?

I LOVE this addon, I just have 3 questions.

    1) Is it possible at the time to disable item border outline by quality for certain qualities. i.e. I want to disable the border for only white quality items but keep all the rest (uncommon, blue, epic, etc.)

    2) It would seem that every time I open my bag and close it and open it and close it the addon memory it takes up that displays with blizzard's default addon memory totals goes up and up and up. Is this just some display bug or is it actually eating up addon memory cuz I don't see why it would use more and more for merely opening and closing the bag a few times.

    3) I want to display empty bag slots, (I'm not sure what the clump option is for but) what I'm looking for in specific is the ability to show just 1 empty bag slot with a # on it for total empty bag slots. So like instead of seeing each empty bag slots in the bag they show up as one slot that is enumerated.
  • #1544
    1. no
    2. if you have the option to sort when opened enabled then yes, it will chew up memory every time you open it
    3. no, you can hide *all* the empty slots though (but thats not really helpful)

clumping is where empty profession slots are categorised under the profession and not under empty slot - so you can have all your herb bag items on a single bar, along with any empty herb slots

Thank you for the reply good sir. :)

I want to say that I love this add on and all of its potential. I have a feature request though: I know there is a bag changer that will highlight the items in whatever bag, but I would like for there to be an option to have a section changer. I have everything in my inventory sorted out by sections down to the very set of gear I wear, but whenever I open my bag it is a lot of stuff to look at and with a low resolution, the bag can cover the entire screen. What I am suggesting is that there should be a way to only view certain sections at a time simply by creating a button that hide/show stuff in that section of your inventory.
It would save tons of screen space and make a whole lot of lives happier.

Also, I wanted to know if there is a way to disable AI just for the Guild Bank... my guild likes to stylize the bank and will have a fit if stuff is just jumbled in there :D
  • #1537
yep, there are option to disable AI for bags, bank and vault, you only need to use it where you want. should under the control part of the config i think (at work so i cant see it)
  • #1531
Is there a way for ArkInventory to not display the empty spaces in the bag? It just takes up way more space than I would want it to
  • #1536
hide the category for empty slots
  • #1530
Right, I've been living with my AI not working properly for so many months now. Every time i speak to a vendor, open my mailbox, open a trade window, got to the AH etc etc. my BANK Bag auto opens, with a lag spike. It's so annoying, and also dangerous in raids when people trade me. I can't seem to find anything about this, is there a fix or something? If so, please link it to me or just explain how I get rid of this. It's soon forcing me to remove AI, and I really don't want that to happen :(
  • #1538
rename the arkinventory saved variables file and then run wow, see if it still happens. (dont delete it as you might want the rules and setup)

ive never seen it so i dont know why its doing it unless something in the data has corrupted somehow.
