I highly disagree with you here, and you should get off your high and mighty horse telling someone their "argument is invalid". While he likely is taking it too far stating many people will see this as "handing out insults", you shouldn't be condescending about his opinion. I don't think it shows some immense respect either using an automated script to congratulate your friends (or copied holiday wishes, I'd like to think my friends and loved ones can spare five minutes of their precious time to write me something personal) but I'm sure a great many people don't care about it, too. Just don't assume everyone thinks A or B because you do, though. If you do like using this addon, consider that not everyone would see it as a positive thing, but don't let comments like these stop you.

    Here's an updated alternative guys

  • #261

IMO this app is more damaging to social interaction on WoW than many other things-

I'd rather receive something sincere, than receive an automated macro. Might as well not even say "Grats" if you have a machine do it for you.

Agree! It's not so hard to say "grats", or don't say anything if you don't want to.

    Broken. Any alternatives?

    About ding

Can you please explain to me what is "ding" ?

"The message to be displayed when someone dings." What does that mean ?

Ding is the informal term people use for reaching the required Experience Points (XP) to gain one level up on their toon (toon=informal word for character.) It is supposed to resemble the function of many modern devices: When the devices are finished with their given task, they will make a "Ding!" Sound...Like a Microwave, or an oven. Funny thing, WoW doesn't make a "Ding!" sound when people level, but everyone seems to adhere to the term.

The term "ding" originally came from Everquest, where gaining a level produced a very loud obnoxious "CHINGGGG!" Many of the first WoW players came from EQ, so the term (along with others) carried over and remained popular.

Ding means when someone levels up.

I am working on a new gratz addon, which should be ready before Mists.

To Inarii and other who still can't get AutoGratz to work after changing the version number:

The version that curse is d/l'ing/installing is version 2.0.1 not the 4.3.0 version released on 11/29.  I obtained the 4.3.0 version from and then updated the version number per Endar_Ren's instructions below.
