About BasicChatMods

Type /bcm to configure BasicChatMods, a basic and modular approach to chat customization.

By default BCM will allow you to drag your chat frames to the very edge of the screen, the remaining customization is done in BCM's modules which can be enabled or disabled at will.

A few of the current modules include:

  • Tell Target
  • Timestamp Customization
  • URL Copy

Class Colors: Are already provided by Blizzard, right-click chat frame tab > Settings > Tick Boxes
Combat Log Timestamps: Are already provided by Blizzard, right-click combat log tab > Settings > Formatting > Show Timestamp. Repeat this for every combat log, e.g. "Self", "Everything", "What happened to me?", "Kills".

    LOVE this addon but it seems to not work well with the group finding addon OQueue. OQueue sends crazy messages to OQ b-tag friends that works with OQ and translates it to something else. While this addon is active those crazy messages spam your chat box.

    Just noticed this on v7.2 (downloaded via curse client)

    1. Add a custom chat tab and set the font size to (say) arial narrow, size 13 and log out then back in.
    2. The original chat channels have remembered the font size but the custom tab *hasnt*. If you look at the font settings its actually reporting font size 13 but its seems to be the default font size. Clicking on the slider without actually changing anything will update the tab to the correct font size.

    • BCM now includes the LibChatAnims library to prevent BCM blocking talent changes for some users.

     

    • AltInvite: fix inviting people that log on.
    • BNet: Add option to remove the "person" icon from chat.
    • ChatCopy: Lots of code cleanup, remove icons from text to prevent copying issues, fix GUI description. Highlight: Scan instance chat for highlights, don't highlight your own chat.
    • Timestamp: Clicking the timestamp for single-line copy now also includes the timestamp.
    • URLCopy: Complete re-write for simplification and future proofing. (new TLD non-English languages and virtually any words like .book will be legitimate sites)

    • AltInvite: New module, alt-click names in chat to invite them to group.
    • ChannelNames: BATTLEGROUND >> INSTANCE_CHAT
    • EditBox: New TOP/BOTTOM selection.
    • InviteLinks: Completely removed. Replaced by AltInvite.
    • Sticky: BATTLEGROUND >> INSTANCE_CHAT
    • Timestamps: Replaced chatline copy popup with a custom one
    • URLCopy: Replaced popup with a custom one, make links in BNET broadcasts clickable

    Hi,
    It seems like that since the latest patch the edit box stays on the bootom of the chat, even though it is enabled.

    I'm not sure what could cause this. Could you disable all your addons but leave BCM enabled and tell me if it still happens?

    Hiya, I'm wondering why when I sell something and there is gold or silver coin images shown, I never see them (just blank space instead) unless I scroll up/down.

    There is no Blizz functionality for adding "gold or silver coin images" to chat. This sound more like an addon you're using.

    Something's wonky with the "click timestamp to copy line" feature since the 5.1 update. This happens when someone links a Weakaura in chat:

    @Wyrmslayer, Thanks a lot for the report. I looked into the WeakAuras code for chat links and lets just say "great" is not what I'd call it. I've modified WeakAuras myself to properly handle chat links which now works fine with BCM. If you're an alpha user on curse client you can download the fixed WeakAuras now, if not, you may need to wait a few hours until a new version is released. I've notified someone with release rights on the project.

    Would help to know what version you're using. EU isn't patched yet so fixes are guesses right now.

    v7 released:

    • Now supports on-demand chats frames (pet battle log, bnet popup whispers, etc)
    • Chatcopy functionality now coverts raid icons into {rt} symbols for easy copying
    • Timestamps are now clickable, clicking a timestamps shows a popup allowing you to copy a specific line of chat. Makes it easier to copy specific lines of chat than using the standard chatcopy functionality.

    Although the new timestamp copychat functionality has been added, you can still copy multiple lines by shift-clicking a chat tab.
