About Battle Pet Binds

Summary

Battle Pet Binds is a very small addon that does exactly what is stated: lets you change the key bindings for Pet Battles without affecting your normal keybinds. Additionally, Battle Pet Binds adds new key bindings for forfeiting, passing your turn, and changing pets. This lets you actually play pet battles entirely with the keyboard alone instead of having to use both keyboard and mouse. Alternatively, there is even support for you to bind everything to the mouse instead, allowing pet battles to be played without the keyboard.

Addon Default Binds

First action button: 1
Second action button: 2
Third action button: 3
Swap Pet menu: 4
Trap enemy pet: 5
Swap to First Pet: F1
Swap to Second Pet: F2
Swap to Third Pet: F3
Pass Turn: T
Forfeit Match: F

  • Note that you do not need the Swap Pet menu open to use the F1-F3 keys. They will automatically change pets for you seamlessly.
  • Note there is no confirmation dialogue for forfeiting a match when using the F key. This is intentional to reduce wasted click time, but just be careful you do not forfeit a match you did not want to.

Changing the Default Binds

Changing the default bindings is now super simple!

Just hit Escape, click on Interface, then click on the Addon tab on the top, and then click on "Battle Pet Binds". Alteratively, you could type "/battlepetbinds". Now, you're at the main options panel and can bind keys with ease by clicking on the button you want to bind and then pressing the key you want.

  • [Update] The .TOC has been bumped to Patch 5.4.0.
  • [Fix] The slash commands for the addon now properly open the interface options menu.

Hi! Great addon!  Any chance on allowing alternate key binds?  For example, by default I can press 1 or N1 (1 on the numeric keypad) for the first ability.  But I can't do the same with swapping out pets.  Sometimes I'm playing with my left hand because I'm holding a drink and sometimes I'm holding a cig on my left hand and would like to use my right hand on the keypad, so I have N7, N8, N9 for swapping out pets.  But I'd like to aslo be able to press F1, F2, or F3 as well.

Please how do I unbind a particular function ?
I want no bind for Forfeit function.

    Thanks author for handy addon.

I installed the addon again after some time without it lately and the /battlepetbinds command does not seem to work. Once I type it in editbox and hit Enter, nothing happens. Oddly enough, editbox remains open, as if Enter wasn't hit, the command somehow doesn't 'get through'. Naturally, options via Interface work well. Thanks for the addon :))

Thanks for the heads up. Should be fixed now for Patch 5.4.0!

Thanks for this great addon.  Been wanting to be able to do this for a while.

I just spotted one minor issue.  In a battle against the Flowing Spirit, I was hit by Whirlpool and got rooted.  I did not notice, but decided it was time to change pet and happily used the F2 bind.  Being rooted prevented the switch and the battle proceeded as if I had hit Pass.

I admit it was my fault, but some rooted/webbed recognition would be helpful, though the payoff is minimal.

    Thanks again.

I've included a fix for this issue in the latest version (for Patch 5.3). It should no longer try to swap out your pet if that pet cannot be swapped, so your turn won't be wasted.

    5.2 possible bug - v2.1a

firstly, thanks for this excellent addon :) .. very appreciated

since patch 5.2 i've received an error message when attempting to forfeit using a key binding, traced back to the call to StaticPopup_Show() on line 107 of BattlePetBinds.lua  ( v2.1a, released 2013/03/05 ).  i've not seen any other reports for this error, but i did disable all other addons other than Battle Pet Binds to make sure it was isolated.  the specific error was for argument #2 expecting a number but finding nil to the StatPopup_Show() call.  changing the second argument  ( first nil in argument list )  to 0 instead of nil returned previous functionality.  i've only tested this in fights against pet battle masters.

Thanks for the incredibly detailed bug report; fixed in v2.1b.

I've been getting this error since latest updated version today each time I log in or reload UI. It does mention Pet Tracker addon, but I get no errors with BattlePetBinds uninstalled and it's been only happening since latest update.

Yeah, it looks like the Pet Tracker author did something silly. It was easy to fix though because I was doing something equally silly.

I've posted a new release to Curse with the fix but it may take a few hours to show up (they have to approve it first).

New release just posted. Now, you no longer need to edit any files or code.

Just open up the options menu from the Interface panel or with the new slash commands (/battlepetbinds or /petbinds) and everything is easy and straightforward after that!

Additionally, all known bugs are fixed (or at least attempted to be fixed).

Can't find it in the interface/addons list nor does the /battlepetbinds or /petbinds work for some reason :(

Redownloaded and replaced the one I had.  Works now, TY!
