About Battle Pet BreedID

Battle Pet BreedID is a standalone addon that will display the Breed of any pet in the following situations:

  • In Battle
  • In your Pet Journal's scroll list
  • In your Pet Journal's pet description tooltips
  • In Item tooltips
  • In Chat Link tooltips
  • In the "Collected ..." line (with BattlePetCount installed)

Theorycrafting is up to you... but if you know what stats you value most, now you can find them! To learn how the Breed ID affects your pets, go here:

This addon uses the letter system by default (B/B for breed ID 3, etc), but if you want to switch to the number system used by other resources, just type "/breedid" or go to Interface->AddOns to open the Battle Pet BreedID options panel. You can change the format type at the top in the Dropdown box, along with over 20 other different options!

Please report addon conflicts (especially with tooltips) and other errors in the comments on Curse/CurseForge.

Is there a way to have breedid show for the tooltip part that says "Collected: ....."

  • #59

Edit: BattlePetCount now supports this feature! If you have the two addons enabled at the same time, BreedIDs will be automatically added to the Collected line.

Is there any way to make this addon display breed numbers instead of S/S, P/P etc. Warcraft pets and Schaffhauser both uses breed ids by numbers so I find it annoying that I have to translate the breeds I dont use that often. Maybe you could even make a setting that will change it ingame by the press of a button?

  • #57

Yes, you can switch it to number form by typing /breedid 1.

I'll try to make this option more clear by adding it to the description.

  • #52

Can you make it possible to tell between say 3 and 13?

  • #55

    Sorry :(

Unfortunately this is currently impossible. We -could- tell the gender for a few pets (if they have a breed only in one gender, for example) but it would only work for maybe 10% of pets, so it may just make things more confusing.

As soon as Blizzard adds some way to tell gender in-game, we will include it.

Considering that WarcraftPets seems to be able to tell between the genders, I would have to assume that there's *some* way to tell the gender between pets. Maybe only *after* they have been captured, of course, but even that's a good start: being able to identify which gender you have only after it's in your book is better than not being able to ID it at *all*.

Cory "Mumper" Stockton, World of Warcraft's Lead Content Designer, said in a recent interview pet gender may determine stats, appearance or abilties in a near future.

So maybe is time to start thinking about coloring breedId in pink for my female pets XD....please, please.

Just joking jaja... a M (male) or a F (female) will be ok ......but pink pets will be soooo cute.

I have everything displaying great in my pet journal and item tooltips but for some reason it isn't showing during battles anymore (PvE or PvP) and I'm not sure why? It did before but I redid my UI so had to redownload everything so obviously I've mucked up somewhere. I've gone back through all the compatability options again but everything that is meant to be changed has been though I do remember that when I redownloaded the enhanced journal addon I only had to change one spot (could not find another) when the guide says in both places and I had to change two the first time I did all this. Help!

If you have installed any addon like "Battle Pet Glow", BreedID's will not show during comba.

You're very likely using an addon that is recoloring the names in Pet Battles (which is pointless after 5.1) and it sabotages our efforts to change the name in battle by adding the Breed ID.

Addons like PetBattleQualityGlow are completely unneeded in Patch 5.1 and should be removed.

Addons like PetBattleInfo (that have other useful features besides name coloring) can be modified to work. In specific for PetBattleInfo, you need to remove the last line of the file "PetBattleInfo.toc" (which says "PetBattleQuality.lua").

As for compatibility changes, the only one I make is above because Battle Pet Count is naturally compatible (and so is PJE now) so there is really no point to modify it further. I mean, it shows breeds in Journal and in Battle by default now, so unless another addon is breaking it, there really isn't any need to make changes.

Do you have any suggestions on how to make the tooltip portion compatible with various tooltip mods or mods that it is compatible with? I'm using TipTac and it does not show it.

    I'll look into it

First of all, congratulations and thankyou Simca for your fantastic add-on, and for all the effort people like you, Hugh or Warla, have put figuring out what BreedId Are

Any chance to add color to your tooltip to identify the quality (rarity) of a pet ? Battle pet BreedID interferes with Blizzard new interface to see the  quality (rarity) of a pet during combat, it also interferes with add-ons (maybe now obsolete) who used to identify the Quality of a oponent pet during combat like "Battle Pet Glow", making it imposible to guess the quality of the first oponent.

Also when browsing action House for caged pets, If petname is too long, Breeds are not seen, I know it's a Blizzard issue and you can't do so much about this, but how about putting breeds prior to the name,

For example: "(S/S) Black Tabby Cat" instead of "Black Tabby Cat (S/S)"

    Keep creating such good work.

Edit: Just tested and It works Ok with PetTracker.

    Hi and thanks.

For quality coloring, we should not interfere with Blizzard's method of quality coloring in any way at all. However, Battle Pet Glow, PetBattleQualityGlow, and PetBattle Info (well, for this one you can actually just delete PetBattleQuality.lua from its folder) are all completely incompatible with our addon now. Can you confirm if the problem still exists with those types of addons disabled? The color of the name of the first opponent should be the rarity with Blizzard's method.

As for your second suggestion, it is a good one. I'll look into it tomorrow, but I'd like to see if I could move Breed to the bottom line of the tooltip along with a list of all possible breeds.
