About Battle Pet Tabs

Addon revamp is ongoing. This means the current addon will be scrapped more or less and a new and improved one will emerge once the process is complete. Meanwhile I appoligize for issues and errors, but these will be gone with the new generation released, hopefully by early 2015.

NB: It's advised that you clean your SavedVariables file "BattlePetTabs.lua" from your WTF folder for WoD because the way pets are tracked has changed once more. This means that all old settings must be purged, or else you might end up with errors. Worst case you login and won't find any teams or snapshots.

You can create up to eight team loadouts and toggle between them by pressing the tabs on the Pet Journal - could it get any simpler? You can also store various team compositions into snapshots and then easily swap between entire team loadouts at once!

Quick start

  • Right-click a tab to delete.
  • Right-click a tab while holding down alt/shift/ctrl to rename.
  • Click "+" to create a new team. (Current team is copied as a starting point.)
  • Click a tab to load the assigned team.
  • Drag a tab to create a macro. You can place it on your bar for quick access. (Note that you can right-click the macro to quickly open the Pet Journal.)

    That is actually a bug, a macro should only be created when you drag the tab button, not when you just select a team. Sorry about this, odd I didn't notice it earlier.

    In any case, trying to force to to make macros but so far it doesn't do it unless I drag the button, as mentioned. If you delete the team macros do you still have this issue?

    awesome addon!

    there are some thing that  would make it even more awesome, however

    the ability to lock the teams and/or to atleast have it always reset to "new (unsaved) team" when opening the journal. i have set teams for the high level dailies, but the big issue is that once i do that daily, the addon keeps selected that pet team. so if i switch pets, it automatically switches the pets in that team, a thing which i don't want (i want the teams that i saved to remain like that). i have seen myself switching pets in the 'saved' teams without me even noticing, which kinda defeats the whole purpose of having teams.

    it would be also nice if it can support more than 8 teams, or if it can have a separate team list/setup for the daily quests (other list than the 8 teams)

    i also wouldn't mind having the name of each team shown next to the icon all the time (maybe an option to enable/disable this), so that i don't have to mouseover all the teams everytime until i find the one that i want to load.

    my only use for the addon is to have pre-made teams for the battle pet daily quests, so that i don't have to search wowhead and then search on my pet list for pets that are strong vs that grand master tamer, for each battle

    Colours

    It seems that Battle Pet Tabs does more than just add tabs; it also changes the colours of the health bars when in battle, and the colours of the health bars when switching pets. The first are set to green red and yellow (?) and the second are set to the colour of the rarity (so green, blue).

    I checked out the lua file. It was easy to disable the colouring of the healthbars. I still don't understand why the regular health bars were getting those strange colours - they certainly didn't become blue. I'm fine with coloured names, in fact, it is nicer that way. Health bars need to remain the same though - I'm a colour blind person, it is disorienting if colours are used too much.

    Sorry about that, luckily in 5.1 I will remove this as it becomes part of the default UI and it may take into account when the color blind option is selected as well! :)

    I doubt they will forget the color blind, they shouldn't, they did add cvars for different types of color blind rendering, off topic, but if you didn't know take a look at colorblindshader, maybe it's of some use to you. :) Anyway, the coloring was added as a hidden easter egg thing, I liked it myself, that's why I even added it, haha. I won't enforce this, I was planning to remove it but seeing how 5.1 is soon here I figured I could wait for it to go live first, and fix any bugs that occur on the new patch. :)

    Haha, I might not be better off at that point ;-). But Blizzard is good at keeping colour information to a minimum that everyone can use, and the default interface doesn't use colour as extensively as many interface addons do (think Grid, the raid frames addon that I can't use). I'm sure it will turn out perfectly. I was not meaning to be catty, I think the addon is very helpful. I just believe functionality like that should be in a distinct addon, but it's not very relevant anymore if 5.1 incorporates all of those features. Thanks!

    It seems that your addon always force summons the first pet in the marked battlepet team when relogging to other characters. I am not always interested in having a battlepet out when I am doing quests. Anyway that you can prevent that auto summon?

    It's a internal game thing, I tried to stop it but when it summons a pet it does not use the coding interface we use to make addons, meaning we can't "notice" when it happens then revert or block it, so, yeah... trust me it annoys me a great deal too! :(

    When putting a new pet in the first slot, that pet should be summoned by the game, internally, without the addon having direct control over that. I didn't notice any code in said addon that prevents this behavior too, and not a surprise, since we can't. Hehe, maybe you just got lucky. :P

    Sorry for the very delayed response here, I mainly use curseforge (the project management site) while curse is the primary distribution end, so I didn't notice the comments until now, sadly.

    The saving issues has been addressed, so I assume since the person I came in contact with helped me test the later updates and since the last update the saving issue has (should be) resolved, along with the Squire2 issue, it should be resolved in the sub-patch 1.1.3.1 that was uploaded today.

    If there is anything else just write, do not be ashamed to use the ticket system either for more personal follow up on the issues you might be having, hehe. PetJournalEnhanced and this addon should not collide in any way that may break either addon, it was probably just an extension of the saving issue that I resolved in 1.1.3. Roadmap to 1.1.4 is to make any remaining saving issues or loading problems a part of the beta stage history, with your help this can be accomplished rather fast. ;)

    *Edit* Keep in mind that 5.1 will bring even more changes to the UI so I may even try time 1.1.4 for the release of said patch. I gotta check the PTR and see what they are doing to the pet journal UI parts of the game.

    pet battle tabs seems to trigger a bug inside blizzard code - causing side effects with squire2 - which is unalbe to load  - created  a bug report on the project linking to the squire bug report.

    I discovered that this add on is causing the Cyclone attack to hang when cast. The pet is the Jade Crane Chick, not sure about any other pets that use that attack. Once Cyclone hangs you have to log out or exit to get out of the battle and none of the battle counts. I verified that it was this add on causing the problem by disabling the add on and the attack worked fine. Re-enabling the add on causes the attack to hang again. Just thought someone should know.
