About BigWigs Bossmods


Big Wigs is a boss encounter add-on. It consists of many individual encounter scripts, or boss modules; mini add-ons that are designed to trigger alert messages, timer bars, sounds, and so forth, for one specific raid encounter.

Note that the Big Wigs project - like 99% of all add-ons hosted on - is open for free access to anyone who cares to join. The source code is open and free, and we welcome you to participate in the future development of Big Wigs.



  • Messages: Can be moved, coloured, locked, outputted to all kinds of different text areas.
  • Bars: Can be moved, skinned to different textures (SharedMedia compatible), resized & also have an 'emphasis' feature to flash and move to a different anchor when they are about to expire.
  • Raid icons: Target painting (put an icon over a player that has been singled out by the boss).
  • Boss Block: Suppress Blizzard boss emotes.
  • Sound: Plays various sounds on different events (SharedMedia compatible).
  • LibDataBroker/Minimap: Button for easy access to the configuration menu, resetting running modules, and seeing what modules are active.


  • Proximity: For displaying players within a certain range on certain boss encounters.
  • Test: Test and preview your bars and warnings configuration, and move them around.
  • CustomBar: For 'pizza timers', create your own custom bars.
  • Flash: Flash the screen blue when something important happens that directly affects you, such as a debuff.
  • Clickable bars: Lets you define left/middle/right click actions for your timer bars.
  • Super Emphasise: Any encounter ability you want to be extra vigilant of, you can enable Super Emphasise to get a voiced countdown and more.

Ancient project history

Tekkub, the original BigWigs1 for Ace1 author - back in the MC days, was inspired to write BW1 after his very first raid. He was horrified by the massive amount of spam his raid leader was creating with his boss mod. Getting messages all over the place for things he didn't care about (Hunters can't dispel a curse or interrupt a heal - well, they couldn't back then). He also found that the "60 seconds until painful doom" timer messages were such a waste. Why not use a simple timer bar to show this?

Our goals

Big Wigs aims to be as efficient as possible (creating a lower memory per second footprint and using a lower amount of CPU than any other boss mod). When modules are written, every aspect of the encounter is inspected. Is add-on synchronisation required? Is target scanning required? What events are really needed? We also aim to have the latest encounter scripts released ASAP; not long after the first few attempts of a brand new boss, we usually have a working encounter script for it.

    There seems to be an issue with grip timers on heroic spine. We usually kill all 4 corruptions and then do a barrel roll. The problem is that grip timer won't show up after that, though it seems to work again after grip has hit someone.

    I tested DBM as well and it didn't have the same problem. Could you please look into this and fix it if possible.

    A few of our users were experiencing issues with BW loading/enabling on spine, this was caused by a conflict with a bad library some addons use. We've tried to work around the issue in r9057.

    Anyone else experiencing issues with the audio countdown not working? Before patch 4.3.3 the voice would count down 5 4 3 2 1. Now it skips some numbers at random, 5 3 1, 5 3 etc.

    about turning on and off

    Hey there i just recently started using big wigs and am likeing it a lot better then DBM. only thing i need to ask is any time i log in or out. the addon is turned off. is there a way to have it turn on as soon as i log in?

    All timers on Morchok HC are completely wrong, nothing more to it. And when I made a ticket on wowace, it got removed after 3 days.

    When i go in test mode, normal bars, emphasized bars and messages all print out stuff, but I get nothing in "Emphasized messages".

    I checked in "Config/Output/Emphasized messages", "Big Wigs Emphasized" is selected, like it should. (I think)

    I will make sure if the same thing happens in a real raid and update as soon as I can, but I think it does.

    How come only tanks can see the Impale Timer on madness!? its the ONLY timer I really want to see as a healer.. wth.

    I dont know if its a bug or what is it.


    But since i updated my Big Wigs, i cannot see the timer bars anymore, and i get a spike lag everytime it announces something?


    Have i installed the addon wrong?


    I used to have no problems what so ever

    Are you using Curse Client to update? If you are, exit wow, uninstall BW and tick the box asking to delete saved settings, then install it again.

    I read the part about feedback, but sadly I couldn't find the correct mirc server and I hate registering on pages I don't intend to continue using;

    I changed to BW around firelands where you simply outcompeted DBM with the with the timers you provided, but I still find myself having to switch between BW and DBM several times a day because BW lacks the battleground timers DBM has - is that something you would consider addon? The same way DBM works, it only loads the module when actually entering a BG, so it shouldn't in theory result in any more memory usage. Just rather tiresome to have to relog several times a day to switch around simply because I enjoy doing BG's too as well as having the overview required to do it efficiently.

    The timers in question are: time till cap, time till x faction wins and the scoreboard updated in end results (how the match would end if both factions kept their remaining bases).
