About BindPad

BindPad -- Created by Tageshi

1. WHAT IS "BindPad"?

BindPad is an addon to make KeyBindings for spells, items, and macros.
You no longer need actionbar slots just to make Key bindings for your macores etc.

BindPad addon provides many icon slots in its frame.  You can drag and drop
anything into one of these slots, and click the slot to set KeyBindings.

2. HOW TO USE "BindPad"?

  (1) Type /bindpad or /bp to display BindPad frame.
(Also you can find "Toggle BindPad" Keybinding command in standard
       KeyBindings frame of Blizzard-UI.)

  (2) Open spellbook frame (p), you bag (b), or Macro Panel (/macro).
(Also you can use three mini-icons on BindPad frame to open these windows.)

  (3) Drag an spell icon, item icon, or macro icon using left button drag and
drop it onto the BindPad window.
(Maybe you need shift key + left button drag if action bars are locked.)

  (4) Now you see the icon placed on BindPad frame.  Click it,
and a dialog window "Press a key to bind" will appear.

  (5) Type a key to bind.  And click 'Close' button.

  (6) When you want to remove icons from BindPad frame, simply drag away the icon
and press right click to delete it.

Note that KeyBinding itself will not be unbinded when you delete the icon.
To unbind it, click the icon and click Unbind button on the dialog window.
Also you can simply override Keybindings.

There are four tabs called Slots Tab on the top of BindPad frame
(like Blizzard's Macro frame).

[General Slots] is for common icons used for every characters and every specs.
[<Character> Specific Slots] is for icons specific to current character
and current spec.

[2] and [3] (aka. 2nd and 3rd <Character> specific slots) will act
in the same way as [<Character> Specific Slots].

Note that you can use [<Character> Specific Slots] tab only after you click
'Character Specific Key Bindings' check box at standard KeyBindings frame of Blizzard-UI.
From BindPad version 1.5, you can see this checkbox on BindPad window itself too.
(Also BindPad will inform you about 'Character Specific Key Bindings' and automatically
activate it for you when you click [<Character> Specific Slots] tab.)

There are another three tabs called Profile Tab on the side of BindPad frame.
(like Blizzard's Talent frame)

Different Profile can hold different contents in [<Character> Specific Slots].
You can click a Profile tab to switch current Profile, and your choice of
Profile is saved for each Talent specs and automatically reverted to former
profile when you change talent spec. If you choose same Profile for both
talent specs this automatic change will not happen.

Note that [General Slots] tab is not effected by Profile change, as all
contents of [General Slots] tab is common for all characters AND all specs.
If you change Profile while [General Slots] tab is shown,
BindPad will automatically shows [<Character> Specific Slots] tab of
specified Profile.

No, you cannot.

If you need different skills binded for different stances/forms,
simply use the stance condition to decide on what skill to use.

Example: /cast [stance:1/2] Berserker Stance; [stance:3] Intercept

Where [Stance:1/2] is conditioning the macro for you to be in battle stance
or defensive stance and [stance:3] is conditioning you to be in berserker stance.
This works for all classes with stances (Including rogues for stealth [stance:1]
and shadow dance [stance:2] or none of the previous [stance:0]).

Druid example: /cast [stance:1] Bash; [nostance:1] Healing Touch

[nostance] = Caster, [stance:1] = Bear, [stance:2] = Aquatic, [stance:3] = Cat,
[stance:4] = Travel, [stance:5] = Tree/Moonkin if available else Flight,
[stance:6] = Flight if Tree/Moonkin is not available.

4.  "You want to convert this icon into a BINDPAD MACRO?"... What?

"BindPad Macro" is a new feature from BindPad version 1.8.0 ;
which allow you to make almost unlimited number of virtual macro icons.

Older versions of BindPad just let you save your limited action bar slots.
This new BindPad will let you save your limited macro slots on the standard
"Create Macro" panel.

  - Click the small red "+" icon to create an empty BindPad Macro.
  - Right-click an existing spell/item/macro icon on BindPad to convert it into a BindPad Macro.
  - Right-click the "BindPad Macro" to edit macro-text.
  - ...and you can use left-click to set keybindings as usual.

Note that BindPad Macro will only exist within the BindPad frame;
You can drag-and-drop them within BindPad, but you cannot drop them outside.

BindPad addon utilizes new functions added from WoW API 2.0 .

You can use these functions (and many others) in any addons or macros.

  SetBinding("KEY", "command")
  SetBindingSpell("KEY", "Spell Name")
  SetBindingItem("KEY", "itemname")
  SetBindingMacro("KEY", "macroname"|macroid)

Just don't forget to save changes by

There are some other similar addons by other authors.
Try them and choose what you like.

Hi, question to developer: would it be possible to have a little change to the hotkey text shown on the buttons. Today when I bind an action to lets say "ALT + Wheel Up" the hotkey text is shortcutted to something like "a-Mouse Wheelp Up" but only the "a-M" is shown. Kinda problematic since there's no way to see the difference on "a-Mouse Wheelp Up", "a-Mouse Wheel Down", "a-Mouse Button 4", etc. etc. Can you change this so:
AB3, .... MB4, MB5... etc. You get the ideĆ”. This way there will be room to show the entire shortcut hotkey text on each action button. Advanced thanks
  • #147
That is a very good suggestion, but it'd bet it is out of BindPad's reach (I reckon you need to play with tooltip functions).

But do not get me wrong, after playing with your keybinds for a couple of hours, you will simply memorize them man.
  • #143
just one thing i couldnt manage to do is the move the BP window, can you make it movable pls, i tried alt / shift / ctrl, nothing seems to work.
  • #142
It would appear that my specs do not match up with my profiles correctly. How can I fix this?
    secondary spec.
    primary spec.
  • #146
    Quick answer:

@dekimsey, you are gettting it wrong. It is up to you to configure what spec is binded to what Profile. You do this by clicking the Profile boxes to the right side. You can have primary spec set to Profile 1, secondary spec set to Profile 3, both specs set to Profile 1, both specs set to Profile 2, etc. It is totally up to you to configure.

    Long answer:

== On HOW TO setup the profiles ==

Beforehand, let me tell you that profiles are a very powerful tool to customize the bindings for different specs, so you really should learn how to use them. However the profiles are not explained in the addon description, and they are 'tricky' to understand. That is the reason why @dekimsey is confused, just as I was, and my motivation to write this small help text.

HOW TO: The right edge of BindPad's main window holds three profile black squares, let's call them Profile 1, Profile 2 and Profile 3 boxes. Everytime you click in one of these boxes, a class icon will fill the black box. This means that you are linking the box's Profile ## to your current spec (let it be primary or secondary).

I will use a few examples to ilustrate this.
    - If a druid specced restoration in his primary spec clicks Profile 1, his primary spec bars will be assigned to Profile 1, and all bindings in Profile 1 will apply.
    - If a warrior specced Arms as secondary spec clicks Profile 3, his secondary bars will be assigned to Profile 3, and all bindings in Profile 3 will apply.
Good news are, BindPad will help you remember whether you assigned your primary or secondary spec to what profile by storing icons inside of the profile boxes. Though this is where it gets confusing newcomers: BindPad is hiddenly assigning Primary action bars, or Secondary action bars, NOT CHARACTER SPECS. Allow me to repeat: you are not assiging character builds to profiles, you are assigning primary bars/ secondary bars. If the mentioned warrior goes and respecs protection as his secondary spec, BindPad willl still offer the same bindings: Profile 3's bindings.

Personally, I have Profile 1 configured for tanking, Profile 2 configured for DPS, and Profile 3 configured for PvP (warrior). Now I am totally free to respec like a madman, both primary and secondary specs whenever it's needed, since all my bars will work as soon as I assign BindPad's profile to the current spec.

    I hope my explanation helped.
    Good luck.

    @xxavx and Kaesha

Bindpad allows you to bind ANY key directly to a spell, regardless of bar. If you are binding "1" to a macro, you are telling the keybinding mechanism to relinquish "1" on the action bar and activate the macro with "1" insteand.

I play warriors and druids (primarily). I use bindpad to, for example, bind to a macro that hits defensive stance, equips my shield, and does spell reflect (takes 3 kepresses).

On my druid, for example, I use it to bind "E" to rejuvenation, "-E" to Lifebloom, "-E" to regrowth, " - E" to Healing touch, etc. They are still on my action bars, but I rarely need to remember what bar I have active in order to use them.

In answer to the basic question, though, bindpad is not stance-aware. Its purpose is not to replace action bars.
  • #141
I totally agree with you. BindPad has been designed to bind keys to abilities, not to bind keys to action bars. That is totally true.

I was just wishing for BinPad to support this added functionality of "bind a key to an action bar". But I understand it is asking a bit too much.
  • #139
I love your addon but none of my bindings save when I logout. Do you know why this might be? Or how I might be able to fix it?
  • #137
First of all, congratulations for the success of your addon. I personally started using it for the "Trigger on Press & Release" functionality, in order to accelerate my PvE rotation, and my PvP spell reflect macros. However, I recently found myself running out of action bars and macro slots so this BindPad's feature is truly welcome. Being the control freak I am, I even migrated all my key bindings from Blizzard bars into BindPad. Simply because it is more convenient, more accessible. Again, congratulations.

Now comes the "but": I share Kaesha's concern. I play mainly a warrior myself. As you may know warriors switch stances, where each stance is considered as a shapeshift form. This means, my main action bar switches between three completely different bars (defensive bar, battle bar, berserk bar). Rogues and druids suffer the same issue, since they are also shapeshift classes. As Kaesha asked two post before, can Bindpad handle this sort of behavior "natively"? Right now, I wrote a full row of half a dozen of macros with /cast [stance:1];[stance:2];[stance:3] modifiers to cover for this.

Small feedback: you may already know this, but BindPad conflicts with SlowFallKeyPress. I used the latter one for a while. Though when trying to migrate to BindPad, none of them addons would work. Eventually I had to disable SlowFallKeyPress (which is a non-issue since BindPad supports the same functionality).

Last but not least, I would love to have a profile saver/loader. You never know when you will have to switch computers, or run a backup copy. It should not be tooooo hard to implement right? 0:)

    Cheers yow!
  • #138
Replying to myself. There is a way to access the vehicle frames:

    /click [bonusbar:5] BonusActionButton1
    /stopmacro [bonusbar:5]

Add this into all the macros that use the main action bar. Still, quite dirty workaround, that does not work for bosses that modify your bars, such as Blood Queen Lanathel.
  • #136
Love this addon! This is ideal...except for one thing. I simply converted all of my in-game macros to bindpad macros. Since then, my macros/keybinds have stopped working on me twice. Both times in the arena and, most likely, when they were most frantically abused. Unfortunately, arena is not the place for this kind of stuff to happen. Relogging fixes it but I don't suspect the opposing team will allow us a quick timeout... Any ideas? They all stop working but I can click the icon...
  • #135
While BindPad seems to handles duel-spec quite well (with some oddities I've not got to the bottom of yet!), I'm running into issues when playing some of my shapeshift/stance/stealth type characters.

I guess I'm used to being able to hit, say a single key to do multiple things depending on context.
Eg on my rogue, if I'm in stealth "1" should trigger Garrote.
If I'm out of stealth it should trigger Mutilate.

Now extend that to a druid, who can be in Cat (in or out of stealth), Bear or caster/Moonkin form and things get complicated VERY quickly.

Can Bindpad handle this sort of behavior natively? Or should I look to writing a LOT of macros to cover this duality?

    Version 2.2.4
    - Added a workaround for a strange bug of GetCurrentBindingSet() API function.
    - 2.2.4 doesn't include experimental code of 2.2.3
(Actually 2.2.3 DOES include this workaround of 2.2.4 already.)

Note that anyone who is using 2.2.3 don't need 2.2.4.

Hi, I'm having trouble assigning keys for dual-spec. Lemme explain: I got both Feral and Resto specs (Druid), if I assign "Healing Touch" to the button NumPad3 in Resto spec and change to the Feral one, if there's no assignement for NumPad3 it'll cast "Healing Touch". Is there possible to keep the non-assigned keys for each spec just blank?

Place Healing Touch icon on your Feral Spec, and Unbind NumPad3 key.
I think you accidently assigned NumPad3 and lost the icon on Feral Spec.
