About Bitten's SpellFlash: DK

This module flashes suggested spells for all three DK specs. You can find *lots* more information on its website.

If you download using the Curse Client it will come with everything you need. If you download your addons manually, you must also get SpellFlash.

Bitten's SpellFlash modules replace Blizzard's default proc highlighting to flash the button you should press next to achieve maximum dps on a boss fight. Or if you are a tank, to maximize your survivability. For healers, they are just slightly smarter proc highlighters. Dps modules follow or are similar to priority schemes found in SimulationCraft and/or Icy Veins. Sometimes you have to be smarter than SpellFlash, e.g. when saving a cooldown for a specific boss mechanic, but in general following the recommendations will improve most people's performance.

Some modules have AoE modes. Check the descriptions of each rotation to see if one is available for the spec(s) you use.

Fix Soul Reaper. It would never fire, which is crazy. One tiny line later and it should now work, which should see a nice jump in DK DPS across all specs.

Debugging and work-around for ticket 200, in which our rune cooldown is nil for a level 58 DK. Since I can't reproduce this trivially, and I don't want to try and level to 58 to verify it for sure, this adds inline debugging and protects the code against the error spam.

Rewrote Unholy rotation for 6.0; this brings it up to both technical and in-game parity with frost and blood. As with any major rewrite bugs may exist, but this is fairly well play tested, and should be solid.

Bump priority of plague strike for DW Frost, so that we actually get blood plague on, well, pretty much anything. It was spending almost exclusively on Obliterate instead, just because of the way runes stacked up in the rotation.

  • Flash Death Strike with Dark Succor for self-healing as Frost.
  • Fixed Death Strike inappropriately flashing for Blood. - possibly other inappropriate flashing for other specs, if an ability required more than one rune.

  • Internal rotation changes to smooth out flashing, etc.

This shouldn't substantially change the externally visible rotation, but it does bring a number of improvements notably, that spells should now indicate if they expect to be ready *now*, or if they are flashing to indicate what the next action will be once a rune cooldown is finished.

Hopefully that will both improve the experience, and help highlight anywhere that our logic for handling runes and/or Runic Power is off.

  • Don't pool RP toward the end of a fight, use it instead.
  • Soul Reaper should not fire at very low target health.
  • ERW should not flash unless all runes are used up.

This release focuses on tuning fights against both quest-level mobs, and bosses, with a view to avoiding wasting resources by pooling too long, or by using SR when it is very unlikely to actually land.

    hi, i have some problems with the frost 2h rotation (im using a 2h weapon), seems like the addon is using a DW rotation instead, ignoring Obliterates on KM Procs and using Frost strikes. it was working fine 3 days ago.

    I just tried it and it's still working correctly for me.  Perhaps what you are observing is because I was finally able to turn off the Blizzard default proc highlighting.  I believe Blizzard puts the shiny border around Obliterate when KM procs regardless of whether you have enough runes to cast it.  My module, however, will not flash it in that case (because if you can't cast it, it's obviously not the button you should push).

    When both Obliterate AND Frost Strike are castable, and you have a KM proc, which one does it flash?

    Ah yes - it is also true that it will flash FS instead if using OB would cap your RP.  So, that should be when your RP is higher than 76.  I just peeked into the code and fixed an error where it would switch at 76, instead of *highter than* 76 (thanks to your screenshots for that).

    I just re-simmed using OB under KM even with high RP, and it came out with *very* slightly less dps.  Close enough that it could possibly be due to randomness, but probably not.  Out of curiousity I started playing around with ideas like "use OB unless more than 1/2 of the RP would be wasted", which is showing some promise.  Perhaps a future version will incorporate an idea like that.

    If by the part about "2 or 3 seconds" you mean to suggest waiting for runes to regen so you can use KM on OB instead of FS, that's harder to put into a Simulationcraft script, so I don't know for sure.  The main threads in Icy Veins and Elitist Jerks do not mention it, and another thread on EJ has people arguing over it, so I'm sticking with the popular recommendation for now.

    Seems like keeps using frost strike when RP is higher than 60. Correct me if im wrong , isn't a dps loss not using OB even with full RP and 2 or 3 seconds on runes CD?. don't know if this is just happening to me

    Since yesterday 11/2/12 the Spellflash modules quit working. Everything is loaded. This is on Warrior, Priest, Mage and DK

    I just made sure I had everything up to date & logged onto my DK.  Everything is working fine for me.  Can you think of what might have changed for you yesterday?

    This addon does work for Frost DKs.  The easiest way to install it is with the Curse Client, since it will come with everything you need.  Otherwise you must also get SpellFlash and Bitten's SpellFlash Library.

    Looks like either SpellFlash, SpellFlashCore, or Bitten's SpellFlash Library is disabled.  Click AddOns from your character selection screen & make sure they all have check marks next to them.

    First of all id like to thank you for your great work on these addons. My dps has risen a lot since i started using them.

    Now i have a question. For DK's it seems that the horn of winter keep flashing even when it's already been cast. Any reason for this?

    Thanks!  Horn of Winter is used for the 10 runic power it grants.
