About Bitten's SpellFlash: Druid

This module flashes suggested spells for all four Druid specs. You can find *lots* more information on its website.

If you download using the Curse Client it will come with everything you need. If you download your addons manually, you must also get SpellFlash.

Please see the FAQ before posting a question. If that doesn't address your issue, or you have a suggestion to improve this addon, please either leave a comment or create a ticket.

Bitten's SpellFlash modules replace Blizzard's default proc highlighting to flash the button you should press next to achieve maximum dps on a boss fight. Or if you are a tank, to maximize your survivability. For healers, they are just slightly smarter proc highlighters. Dps modules follow or are similar to priority schemes found in SimulationCraft and/or Icy Veins. Sometimes you have to be smarter than SpellFlash, e.g. when saving a cooldown for a specific boss mechanic, but in general following the recommendations will improve most people's performance.

Some modules have AoE modes. Check the descriptions of each rotation to see if one is available for the spec(s) you use.

Avoid flashing Sunfire constantly when Moonfire is not applied

When target switching, if you are in the solar phase (eg: sunfire
available), and moonfire was not already present on the target, we would
constantly flash sunfire -- because the API treats the two spells
identically, so special support is needed to filter out conditions where
they shouldn't flash.

This updates the code to avoid moonfire when it is not castable.

Curious why Nature's Vigil is not included in rotation?

  • #142

In which rotation?  It should be included in Feral.  It is not included in Guardian because it's pretty discretionary.  Balance ... yeah I suppose it should included there.  I'll get that into the next release.

<Edit:> It is now included in the Balance rotation as well.

That is answered in the 2nd sentence of the description above.  Also in the FAQ.

I as wondering if its working as intended that I am never told to use Shred. Even when I dont have aggro on the mob it still flashes Mangle, when it used to flash for Shred.

  • #137

The latest rotation only uses Shred when your energy regen is above 15/second.  Simulations show higher dps using Mangle to generate more CP until energy regen gets high (at least in some gear, including top-end gear).

Fair enough :) ty for the info :D

  • #132

Not sure if this is from SpellFlash or your Druid module, but I'm receiving the following chat window spam pretty much whenever I hit Mangle in Feral spec (either bear or cat form, possibly whenever the module is supposed to flash mangle):

No spell defined (or no ID attribute): Mange(Bear Form)

Disabling SpellFlash make the error stop. Error only shows up in Feral spec; it is not present in Guardian spec

  • #133

Oops!  Sorry about that.  I didn't notice it because it only happens when you have Dream of Cenarius.  Fixed.

I got this error in-game when using the addon, not sure if it is yours or spellflashes core.

    Date: 2013-04-04 12:50:48
    ID: 49
    Error occured in: AddOn: SpellFlash
    Count: 6
Message: Note: AddOn SpellFlash attempted to call a protected function (MultiBarBottomLeft:Show()) during combat lockdown.

<Remaining error text snipped by Bitten to avoid clutter.>

Also, I noticed that it doesn't flash for mangle in bear form at all when mangle is good to use since it generates rage and costs none plus does damage. And is there any way for it to detect if you are so far away in distance from the mob and suggest to use Wild Charge if you are far enough away from the mob when you have it selected?

(I think my last comment didn't post... Don't really want to type that up again but I guess I will try...)

My last post mentioned me asking if you could swap the Tiger's Fury, Berserk, Survival Instincts, Barkskin, and Incarnation around (As in change them so that Survival Instincts and Barkskin flashes when you are about to die instead of glows red and Tiger's Fury, Berserk, and Incarnation just glows red throughout the fight as more of a recommended but not required thing to do), since they don't really fit on trash mobs since usually you should save those for later more tough mobs. Along with, Healing touch flashes too early and could be switched to rejuvenation when you lose little life instead of healing touch off the bat at the beginning of the fight. Then when you start to die, it could flash the healing touch, survival instincts, and barkskin when you are in trouble. Also, it doesn't seem to notice if you have the Cenarion Ward talent, and use that to your advantage.

    Sorry for the long post, it's just my opinion from observations and just trying to give a little bit of some constructive critique/help. ^^;

Please see the question "<Addon Name> tried to call the protected function <blah blah blah>" in the FAQ.

It should be flashing Mangle, and it does for me.  Please check out "Why isn't spell X flashing?" in the FAQ and let me know if it helps.

And is there any way for it to detect if you are so far away in distance from the mob and suggest to use Wild Charge if you are far enough away from the mob when you have it selected?

That is possible.  I'll consider it for a future version.

First - I'll assume everything before this quote was talking abou Guardian, and now we're talking about Feral.  If that is incorrect, let me know.

I try to keep semi-consistent meaning for flash colors across all my addons (though some special cases pop up).  You can read more about it here.  Yellow is definitely the right color for Tiger's Fury / Berserk, because it means "optional" and/or "not on the GCD", both of which are true.  And I like the red flashing for those two survival cooldowns, because it kinda tells you "hey dummy - why haven't you already used these if you were going to take this much damage?"  It helps me, anyway :)

As for your philosophy on Berserk - I suggest you try using it more often.  It doesn't make much sense to save a 3 minute cooldown unless you know you're going to want to use it again sooner than that.  When questing, in general I like to use Tiger's Fury once per pull, and if it's on CD use Berserk at the start of the pull instead.

Are we talking about Feral or Guardian now?  If Feral - Healing Touch flashes differently depending on whether you have the talent Dream of Cenarius.  Read more about it here.  Canarion Ward does not flash, that is true.  I suppose I could make it flash red at the same time as Barkskin / SI, but in general DPS rotations don't concern themselves much with survival.

If Guardian - Healing Touch should only be flashing when you need the heal and have Nature's Swiftness. Read more about it here.  And Cenarion Ward should be flashing (if it is not, refer to the "Why isn't spell X flashing?" question I mentioned earlier).

    Sorry for the long post, it's just my opinion from observations and just trying to give a little bit of some constructive critique/help. ^^;

I appreciate it!  Feel free to continue offering feedback.

One thing that I wish would happen was that in feral it would flash healing touch only if you have Predatory Swiftness for that 7 seconds

This is how it works in combat.  When out of combat, it assumes you're OK popping out of cat form if you need to heal.

I actually just realized that I had it set to tell me about guardian as well, and should disable that as I am more of a DPS/Healer type of guy.

You shouldn't have to worry about that: "Flash Balance" and "Flash Guardian" checkboxes only apply when you are in the corresponding spec.  So for example, you could uncheck the Guardian box if you want to use SpellFlash when doing feral dps, but you want to stick with Blizzard's default proc highlighting when you switch to Guardian to tank a dungeon..

As for the Cenarion Ward and the Mangle for the bear, none of the things on the FAQ apply to me, so I am going to assume it's a bug, or possibly an incompatibility issue with one of my other addons.

Just to make sure we're on the same page: Cenarion Ward should only flash be flashing if you change your spec to Guardian (not simply by going into Bear Form while still in Feral spec).  Mangle will sometimes flash as Feral+Bear, but only if you still have time to regen some energy before it caps.

Oh also, that would be awesome if healing touch flashed when you had Predatory Swiftness,

It should be, assuming you are under 80% health.  I saw no reason to make it flash if you didn't need the heal (unless, as mentioned earlier, you took Dream on Cenarius).

whenever I get into combat I always see tigers fury, berserk, incarnation, and all those flashing at me so it becomes less obvious when buttons flash because of it.

There is an (unintended) workaround if you want to leave a spell on your bars but not have it flash: put it in a macro without "#showtooltip" on the first line.
