About Bitten's SpellFlash: Mage

This module flashes suggested spells for all three Mage specs.

If you download using the Curse Client it will come with everything you need. If you download your addons manually, you must also get SpellFlash.

Please see the FAQ before posting a question. If that doesn't address your issue, or you have a suggestion to improve this addon, please either leave a comment or create a ticket.

Bitten's SpellFlash modules replace Blizzard's default proc highlighting to flash the button you should press next to achieve maximum dps on a boss fight. Or if you are a tank, to maximize your survivability. For healers, they are just slightly smarter proc highlighters. Dps modules follow or are similar to priority schemes found in SimulationCraft and/or Icy Veins. Sometimes you have to be smarter than SpellFlash, e.g. when saving a cooldown for a specific boss mechanic, but in general following the recommendations will improve most people's performance.

Make Nether Tempest always optional

Previously it was "mandatory" on a boss, which isn't strictly desirable,
so we remove that.

Various fixes to Arcane, thanks to Reason2012 for the report:

Arcane is no longer stuck in "burn" if the Prismatic Crystal talent is
taken.  Previously, an error on my part meant that it was testing "do
you have the talent", rather than "do you have the crystal out" to
figure out if it should burn or not.

Arcane Orb cooldown should be respected better, and it should flash
pre-combat since it is used to quickly build stacks.  It still flashes
only below two arcane stacks, as a builder.

Arcane Power will now flash just prior to Prismatic Crystal, rather than
just after, if you have taken that talent.  (Specifically, it will start
flashing two GCDs prior to PC becoming available.)

Fix Arcane Orb never flashing

This was a Blizzard ... well, I was going to say bug, but quirk is
probably closer to the truth: it has a range, but is never, ever in
range.  This seems to apply to a lot of similar spells, and needs to be
annotated on the spell or it will never consider flashing it.

Improve Nether Tempest handling

We now keep track of where Nether Tempest was cast, and if it
is (probably) still active on a mob that isn't your target, we only
flash it "small" rather than normally.

If the target with it on dies, we should handle that correctly and
immediately revert to full size flashing.

This is done because we can't tell why you switched targets, and if the
NT cast needs to be refreshed because of range, mob switching, etc.

Fix Finger of Frost tracking bug.

Changes in the WoW server-side meant that a work around for inaccuracies
in tracking FoF stacks in MoP has gone away; this, in turn, meant that
if you used a FoF stack when you had two, we mistakenly believed that
you have 0 (or even -1) stacks.

This fixes that, so we should now handle FoF much, much better in the
rotation.  (Starting with not appearing to ignore it for a while...)

Well it is saying that the minimum setting is at 80000

And during combat, how high do you see the combustion monitor get?  (You'll want to look at the first number on the second line.)

I have tried your new rotation, Arcane Blast should be highlited until you have at least 4 charges before scorch begins to highlight, for that rotation I keep up 6 charges and keep using Arcane Blast until at 90% mana, then I use scorch until close to 100% mana. I use frost bomb/fireblast whenever its available as well as Missiles when up to 2 charges.

    Great addon!

    Thanks!

I see no difference in simulations when using AB to get to 4 stacks.  PM me if you want my .simc profile to check my work.

I just released a beta version with a new Arcane rotation.  Please test it out and let me know how it's working. In particular, please test Alter Time and the level 90 talents, since my mage is only level 85!

Another beta release, this time including an AoE rotation for Arcane.

<Edit:> Released.  No more beta testing needed.

    Xemnosyst,

I've been doing some testing and simming with Arcane, and I've found some improvements that could be made to the flash rotation. I will discuss below, and welcome any feedback from the mage community.

As of right now I've noticed that Arcane Barrage will blink for me even when I am at 87% or better mana (sometimes as high as 94%) and I don't know what it is set to, but when weaving missles it shouldn't begin to blink until below 80% mana. Dumping stacks without giving your mana a chance to come back is a mistake, that last blast could proc a missles and after that missles you could be almost back to 100%. The only time this does not happen is when you are below 80% already, after the blast you're too low to come back without dumping stacks.

I've noticed even when you have 2 missles proc'd the spellflash still favors arcane blast. As soon as you proc a second set of missles you should use them. If you sit on two stacks you are using mana to blast at a DPS loss. If all of your missles are launched they hit for on average 250k for 1 channel, where a blast will hit on average for 135k over a fight (some are higher when full stacks vs much lower with none). Since missles also generates a stack, you're not losing any uptime on your buff by subbing missles in. You are pre-emptively saving mana while gaining an increase using your second proc of missles, and then looking for another proc. This will allow you to have to dump your stacks much less often.

That's all for now... if you have questions let me know!

Thank you for the feedback.  The rotation is the best I could make it at the time, but there have been changes to Arcane (and gear levels) since then.  I will go back to simc, test your ideas, and implement improvements after some work I have planned on Affliction.  For now, you should be able to improve the rotation at least a little with the options.  Setting "Exclusively Arcane Blast over % mana" to 80 will at least get the Arcane Barrage behavior you want.

I can not see the combustion monitor.
In the options it is active. I use the skill fire.

  • #149

That's odd.  Maybe it's position got messed up if you changed your screen resolution or something like that?  Try this command to make it return to the center of your screen:

    /bcm reset

Is it flashing your rotation like it should?

    Yes.

I'm stumped.  These are the conditions that must all be fulfilled in order for the combustion monitor to be shown.  I'm pretty sure we've already covered them all, but just to be sure:

    • You must be in fire spec
    • The "Flash Fire" option must be on in the options
    • The "Show Combustion Monitor" option must be on
    • Spells must be flashing (or have the potential to be, like buffs out of combat.  So, for example, if you do not have "Flash Out of Combat" selected in the options, the combustian monitor will be hidden out of combat.)

No, that does not help. The window had previously never seen. The screen resolution or by the UI was never changed.

Edit: I've disabled all other addons. And of course, every time I started a fight. But no, there is no window.
