About Bitten's SpellFlash: Mage

This module flashes suggested spells for all three Mage specs.

If you download using the Curse Client it will come with everything you need. If you download your addons manually, you must also get SpellFlash.

Please see the FAQ before posting a question. If that doesn't address your issue, or you have a suggestion to improve this addon, please either leave a comment or create a ticket.

Bitten's SpellFlash modules replace Blizzard's default proc highlighting to flash the button you should press next to achieve maximum dps on a boss fight. Or if you are a tank, to maximize your survivability. For healers, they are just slightly smarter proc highlighters. Dps modules follow or are similar to priority schemes found in SimulationCraft and/or Icy Veins. Sometimes you have to be smarter than SpellFlash, e.g. when saving a cooldown for a specific boss mechanic, but in general following the recommendations will improve most people's performance.

Make Nether Tempest always optional

Previously it was "mandatory" on a boss, which isn't strictly desirable,
so we remove that.

Various fixes to Arcane, thanks to Reason2012 for the report:

Arcane is no longer stuck in "burn" if the Prismatic Crystal talent is
taken.  Previously, an error on my part meant that it was testing "do
you have the talent", rather than "do you have the crystal out" to
figure out if it should burn or not.

Arcane Orb cooldown should be respected better, and it should flash
pre-combat since it is used to quickly build stacks.  It still flashes
only below two arcane stacks, as a builder.

Arcane Power will now flash just prior to Prismatic Crystal, rather than
just after, if you have taken that talent.  (Specifically, it will start
flashing two GCDs prior to PC becoming available.)

Clean up Prismatic Crystal tracking

Thanks to a couple of magic people who let me know it is tracked as a
totem, I can replace my hacky guesswork with just pulling data from the
totem system.

Fix Arcane Orb never flashing

This was a Blizzard ... well, I was going to say bug, but quirk is
probably closer to the truth: it has a range, but is never, ever in
range.  This seems to apply to a lot of similar spells, and needs to be
annotated on the spell or it will never consider flashing it.

Improve Nether Tempest handling

We now keep track of where Nether Tempest was cast, and if it
is (probably) still active on a mob that isn't your target, we only
flash it "small" rather than normally.

If the target with it on dies, we should handle that correctly and
immediately revert to full size flashing.

This is done because we can't tell why you switched targets, and if the
NT cast needs to be refreshed because of range, mob switching, etc.

Fix Finger of Frost tracking bug.

Changes in the WoW server-side meant that a work around for inaccuracies
in tracking FoF stacks in MoP has gone away; this, in turn, meant that
if you used a FoF stack when you had two, we mistakenly believed that
you have 0 (or even -1) stacks.

This fixes that, so we should now handle FoF much, much better in the
rotation.  (Starting with not appearing to ignore it for a while...)

    My Create Mana Gem button is always flashing, I have glyph of Mana Gem and glyph of Loose Mana I am assuming that is why it is always flashing,  since it is not set to show the brilliant mana gem.   it doesnt break the addon or anything just is annoying when you are watching for a flashing button to cast and that one never shuts off LOL.

    Having an issue where with your spellflash installed in Fire spec it's no longer showing any proc whatsoever for my instant pyroblast on my hotbar. Can you at least add it back in so that when I proc heating up my inferno blast blinks if its off cooldown, and when I proc instant pyroblast, instant pyroblast blinks? Thanks.

    From the description above:

    No Fire rotation for 5.0.4 yet. Check the FAQ for my progress as I update Bitten's SpellFlash modules for 5.0.4.

    I will update fire, but at least one other rotation has priority right now.  Sorry Frown.  I wish I didn't have so much other stuff to do right now so I could just update these full time!

    <Edit:> And now it should flash for Fire.

    I have the same lack of flash problem as below, but I also have another.  Whenever I click on an attack spell (Arcane Barrage, Arcane Missiles, Arcane Blast, Living Bomb, etc.) I get the following message in my chat window:

    No spell defined (or no ID attribute): Combustion
    No spell defined (or no ID attribute): Icy Veins

    This doesn't come up when I have Spellflash totally disabled; only when it is enabled.

    Any ideas??

    Thank you for the report.  I will take a look at this, but it's going to be a few hours.

    <Edit:> Ok I made the fix, and I found & fixed another bug with Arcane Power.  Please let me know if any other problems come up.

    Through the curse client it says out of date and doesn't have all the dependencies? halp

    says version 2.6 :/ and the page up ^ says that's latest for 5.0.4

    Thanks for bringing up the issue.  I just added this to the FAQ:

    You say your addon is 5.0.4 ready, but WoW says it is out of date. Are you a liar?  Nope! Each of the addons you see listed under the next question has been designed to work in 5.0.4. Since I got them ready BEFORE 5.0.4 was released, though, WoW assumes they are out of date, but WoW is the liar! As I go through updating each one again the message will go away, but for now simply click "Load Out Of Date Addons" in WoW and everything should work.

    Please see the installation section of the FAQ to make sure you have all the addons it says you need installed and up to date.  The easiest way is to use the Curse Client.

    are the dependancies in the same thing? it jsut say's bitten's spelflash mage. then misisng dependencies .. nothing else .. do i need to install them manually?

    One thing I noticed is that living bomb begins to flash a couple seconds before it expires. I caught myself pressing it early a couple times because of this. You should wait for the debuff to expire and explode before refreshing; is it possible to make it so living bomb doesn't flash until after it has expired?

    Perhaps what you are noticing is that it will flash when Living Bomb expires by the time your current cast finishes.  It always flashing things based on the state when you will be available to cast them, not the current time.  So if Living Bomb has 1.8 seconds left on it, but you have 1.9 seconds left on your current Fireball cast, Living Bomb will flash to say it is the spell you should cast next.

    If you mean that only those two buttons ever flash throughout combat, I don't have many ideas. is there anything helpful in the FAQ?  Perhaps under "Why isn't spell X flashing?"

    If that is not what you meant, please describe in better detail the difference between what you see and what you expect to see.
