About Bitten's SpellFlash: Priest

This module flashes suggested spells for all three Priest specs. You can find *lots* more information on its website.

If you download using the Curse Client it will come with everything you need. If you download your addons manually, you must also get SpellFlash.

Please see the FAQ before posting a question. If that doesn't address your issue, or you have a suggestion to improve this addon, please either leave a comment or create a ticket.

Bitten's SpellFlash modules replace Blizzard's default proc highlighting to flash the button you should press next to achieve maximum dps on a boss fight. Or if you are a tank, to maximize your survivability. For healers, they are just slightly smarter proc highlighters. Dps modules follow or are similar to priority schemes found in SimulationCraft and/or Icy Veins. Sometimes you have to be smarter than SpellFlash, e.g. when saving a cooldown for a specific boss mechanic, but in general following the recommendations will improve most people's performance.

Some modules have AoE modes. Check the descriptions of each rotation to see if one is available for the spec(s) you use.

Version 50400.2.2

  • The future of Bitten's SpellFlash: Priest is in question. I no longer wish to maintain this addon, starting with patch 6.0. If you are interested in taking it over, keeping up with optimal rotations, and you have programming skills, please leave a comment or PM on Curse.

Version 50400.2.0

  • Shadow: Update rotation to catch up with gear, and the change below:
  • Shadow: Blizzard made a change that you must wait 9 seconds after Shadow Word: Death before casting it again grants another a shadow orb (up from 6 seconds).

Version 50400.1.3

  • All: Flashes WoW's 9th Anniversary Celebration Package.

Version 50400.1.2

  • Bugfix update to Bitten's SpellFlash Library.

Version 50400.1.1

  • Forgot to update the .toc, so WoW was still reporting the addon as "out of date".

Version 50400.1.0

  • Almost no change needed for this patch. Adjusted flashing for the buff to Mindbender.

Version 3.0.4

  • All: Now flashes food buffs.
  • All: Now flashes Dispel Magic.

Version 3.0.3

Update for patch 5.3.

  • Discipline: Power Word: Shield no longer flashes under Borrowed Time, since it will now consume the buff.

Version 3.0.2

  • Updating to the latest Library again, hopefully to actually fix the bug this time! (Sorry.)

Version 3.0.1

  • Updated to latest Bitten's SpellFlash Library for a bugfix.

Version 3.0.0

  • Holy: Added flashing for Holy.

Version 2.9.2

  • Shadow: Bugfix for some users from whom Divine Star, Cascade and Halo stopped flashing.

Version 2.9.1

  • Shadow: More small tweaks to the rotation.
  • Shadow: Improved prediction/detection of whether the cooldown of Shadow Word: Death will trigger.

Version 2.9.0-beta

  • Shadow: Flashing should be smoother, with better indications when to interrupt channeling. E.g. Mind Blast will start flashing small and green as soon as you start a Mind Flay channel, if it will be the next spell, then switch to normal flashing once the cooldown is up.
  • Shadow: Tweaked rotation for a slight dps gain (according to simulations).
  • Shadow: Added flashing for Silence.
  • Shadow: Added flashing for Vampiric Embrace.
  • Shadow: Bugfix - Devouring Plague ticks every second, not every 3.

Version 2.8.1

  • Shadow: Bugfix - Divine Star was actually not flashing yet. Now it flashes red & yellow depending on range.

Version 2.8.0-beta

  • Shadow: Mind Flay now has a high priority when under the affects of Solace and Insanity.
  • Shadow: Devouring Plague is now always prioritized above the level 90 talents.
  • Shadow: Added flashing for Divine Star. It is worth casting now, even for single target fights.
  • Shadow: Added a couple semi-helpful flashes while moving (for Shadow Words: Death and Pain).

Version 2.7.2

NOTE: This version includes a new version of Bitten's SpellFlash Library that I tried to test well, but if you find any issues please let me know right away.

Version 2.7.1

NOTE: Your options will be reset when you upgrade to this version.

  • Repackaging so that Bitten's SpellFlash Library is included with the addon, instead of downloaded separately.
  • Several other internal changes.
  • Shadow: Removed old Shadow Word: Insanity code.

Version 2.7.0

  • Discipline: Added flashing for Archangel.

Version 2.6.0

  • Discipline: Added flashing for Discipline.

Version 2.5.1

  • Shadow: Halo and Cascade now flash pretty colors to indicate distance. See the addon description for more info.
  • Shadow: Tweaked the condition for the top-priority Devouring Plague.

Version 2.5.0

  • Shadow: Researched the Shadow rotation in Simulationcraft and found several improvement.
  • Shadow: Added Cascade and Halo (not Divine Star, since it's not worth using on a single target).
  • Shadow: Added Desperate Prayer.

Version 2.4.5

  • Making the "Out of Date" status go away. Please report any real issues w/ the new patch.

Version 2.4.4

  • Shadow Bugfix - found some smaller issues with cooldowns. Flashing should be smoother now.

Version 2.4.3

  • Shadow: Bugfix - Shadow Word: Death was flashing even when it was on cooldown! Booo.

Version 2.4.2

  • Shadow: Bugfix - If you could manage to get your mana low, Shadow Word: Death would start flashing as if you could cast it and it would give you mana back. You can't. And it won't.

Version 2.4.1

  • Why was there no version 2.4.1?

It goes off constantly, and I just don't see the good in Sending my Fiend out every time it's up.  But, then, I don't generally play Shadow Spec, and I'm new to DPS on my Priest.

In that case, let me try to help you see the good in it.  Smile

A well-geared shadow priest can get about 500K damage out of a shadowfiend, in ideal conditions.  The next best spell you can cast, Devouring Plague will do less than 300K for the same priest (on average).  So even if you could spam Devouring Plague at 3 stacks, it would still be worth it to summon your fiend on cooldown.  (I'm getting my numbers from simulationcraft.org - real raid experience may vary - licensing and restrictions may apply - please consult your doctor).

I have no advice, Xemnosyst =D  You are the expert.  I was just hoping that there was some sort of option for that specific spell.  It goes off constantly, and I just don't see the good in Sending my Fiend out every time it's up.  But, then, I don't generally play Shadow Spec, and I'm new to DPS on my Priest.  I thought I would try this to help me (which it does) because of the wonderful help I get for my druid & mage dps with your SpellFlash Mods.

Thank you for such a quick reply.  I really appreciate it =)

this isn't meant as a critique at all because this addon has changed wow for me dramatically. i'm a bad. i click. i move with my mouse. i'm old and my reaction time is crap. but with this addon, i'm at least average.

but what concerns me is when it gets to execute phase with sw:d, the icon lights up and that's great, but it stays bright even when sw:d is on cooldown. the problem with that is then i can't really tell when sw:d becomes available again (6 seconds i believe after i use it back to back on gcd) because the glow kinda limits me seeing the built in refresh timer.

this is a really small thing and again, it's not a negative comment about spellflash at all, but i thought i'd mention it. i'm going to click that paypal button now so we remain friends ~

Thank you so much for the bug report!  Never feel bad brining something like that up - I need to know about it so I can fix it.  Version 2.4.3 should take care of the problem for you.  And many thanks for the donation!

Thanks for a great addon, but can you make the flash a little less annoying? For example, instead of flashes, frames (or borders... actually, I don't know how it's called in english), like in the original WoW, when some ability procs, such as Mind Spike. It would be great!

Hope that you can understand what do I mean.

Sorry for my English (it's not my native language)

That would be a question for BigRedBrent over at the SpellFlash addon itself.  I make modules that tell it when to flash which abilities, but he makes the addon that actually does the flashing on your screen.

    Xemnosyst, Thanks for answer =)

I guess you misunderstood me or I wrote my idea incorrectly. I don't want flashing buttons (as I wrote earlier it's little bit annoying) or like in Ovale Spell Priority (big buttons on screen). No, I just want something like highliting for button. Without pulsating, flashing, jumping or other annoying things. Can you make option, just "disable flashing effect", and it would be veeery good =)

That would still be a question for BigRedBrent.  Perhaps by creating a ticket here.

Mine isn't flashing vamp touch and devouring plague, any ideas?

    Only condition I saw was;

Mind Flay for Dark Evangelism: Get up to 5 stacks before applying DoTs.

I'm not a high enough level to have learned dark evangelism if that's the actual reason.

Are Empowered Shadow and 5 stacks of Dark Evangelism up?

Apologies, I was editing my post while you replied, I haven't learned Dark Evangelism yet, I assumed that might be the cause after I read it more carefully.

Yes - I bet that's the problem.  I am actually in the middle of some minor changes to the priest module right now, so I'll add in to check for that talent.

<Edit:> That change is in the latest releases.  I'm curious to know how it works for you as you are leveling - and at what level it becomes useful.  Let me know!

<Edit:> spellshard confirms that this module works well for a level 79 shadow priest.

I have yet to see shadow word: Death flash. Why might this happen?

  • #4

Assuming you are in Shadow spec, it ought to flash with low priority when you are below 30% mana or when the target is below 25% health.  Does that fit what you saw when you thought it should be flashing?

<Edit:> I just confirmed it is working fine for me.  There is a section in the FAQ about "Why isn't spell X flashing?" that you may want to check out.
