About Bitten's SpellFlash: Rogue

This module flashes suggested spells for all three Rogue specs. You can find *lots* more information on its website.

If you download using the Curse Client it will come with everything you need. If you download your addons manually, you must also get SpellFlash.

Please see the FAQ before posting a question. If that doesn't address your issue, or you have a suggestion to improve this addon, please either leave a comment or create a ticket.

Bitten's SpellFlash modules replace Blizzard's default proc highlighting to flash the button you should press next to achieve maximum dps on a boss fight. Or if you are a tank, to maximize your survivability. For healers, they are just slightly smarter proc highlighters. Dps modules follow or are similar to priority schemes found in SimulationCraft, Icy Veins, and/or Elitist Jerks. Sometimes you have to be smarter than SpellFlash, e.g. when saving a cooldown for a specific boss mechanic, but in general following the recommendations will improve most people's performance.

The descriptions of each rotation moved to the website for Bitten's SpellFlash.

Version 3.3.1

  • All: Now flashes food buffs.
  • All: Now flashes Shiv to dispel enrage effects.

Version 3.3.0

Update for patch 5.3:

  • Combat & Subtlety: Shuriken Toss is now only used when out of melee range (its dps benefit came from its low energy cost).
  • All: The "No Backsab List" now includes Qiang the Merciless.

Version 3.2.1

  • Assassination: Bugfix - the Mutilate-before-Rupture priority was broken.
  • All: Improved energy calculations when wearing 4pT15.
  • All: The "No Backstab List" now includes Azure Serpent.

Version 3.2.0

  • All: Revisited all three rotations, updating them with Shadow Blades and level 90 talents, along with other changes from new research.
  • Combat: Now tracks Bandit's Guile correctly when you miss.
  • Subtlety: Improved energy prediction (w/ Energetic Recovery).

Version 3.1.3

NOTE: This version includes a new version of Bitten's SpellFlash Library that I tried to test well, but if you find any issues please let me know right away.

  • Combat: Sinister Strike will no longer flash outside of melee range. This release is mostly about the update to the library.

Version 3.1.2

  • Assassination: No longer pause at 4 combo points to "refresh" Rupture if it is not up.
  • Combat: Never suggests a finisher when Revealing Strike is down.
  • Combat: Never tries to pool energy when solo.
  • Combat: Never tries to apply Slice and Dice early to last through Deep Insight when solo.
  • Combat & Subtlety: Don't flash Slice and Dice w/ less than 5 combo points when solo and you have Glyph of Deadly Momentum.
  • All: Added Recuperate flashing when solo and you have Glyph of Deadly Momentum.
  • All: Bugfix - Flashing Deadly Poison was broken.

Version 3.1.1

  • Missed Paralytic Poison in the last version.

Version 3.1.0

NOTE: Your options will be reset when you upgrade to this version.

  • Repackaging so that Bitten's SpellFlash Library is included with the addon, instead of downloaded separately.
  • Several other internal changes.
  • Combat & Subtlety: No longer flashes Ambush if you have Cloak and Dagger and the enemy is in the (resurrected) "No Shadowstep" list.
  • All: Added Marked for Death.
  • All: Added flashing for Non-Lethal Poisons.
  • All: No longer insists that you switch from Wound to Deadly Poison.

Version 3.0.0

  • Combat: Added a Combat rotation.
  • Subtlety: Bugfix - the energy from Relentless Strikes was not being anticipated for Eviscerate.
  • Subtlety: Bugfix - Shadow Dance and Preparation should have been flashing yellow. Now they are.
  • All: Added Expose Armor.

Version 2.4.3

  • Making the "Out of Date" status go away. Please report any real issues w/ the new patch.

Version 2.4.2

  • Subtlety: The detection of the glyph "Tricks of the Trade" and the talent "Subterfuge" were broken.
  • All: Removed chat frame spam during combat associated with the latest Bitten's SpellFlash Library release (which is what led me to find the bugs listed above).

Version 2.4.1

  • Bugfix: The options were messed up. Should be straightened out now.

Version 2.4.0

  • Assassination: Added an Assassination rotation.
  • Subtlety: Played with when Tricks of the Trade flashes.
  • Subtlety: Added Proto-Drake Egg to the list of things not to backstab.

Version 2.3.0

  • Added a Subtlety rotation for the MoP beta.

Version 2.2.1

  • Added the 2nd Burning Tendon to the Shadowstep blacklist.

Version 2.2.0

  • Assassination/Subtlety: Improved flashing during Vanish.
  • Assassination/Subtlety: There is now a blacklist of mobs on which to flash Backstab (like Ultraxion). Please see the description to see what they are, and leave comments to have it adjusted.
  • Combat: There is now a blacklist of mobs on which to flash Killing Spree (like Deathwing's Head). Please see the description to see what they are, and leave comments to have it adjusted.
  • Subtlety: There is now a blacklist of mobs on which to flash Shadowstep (like Ultraxion). Please see the description to see what they are, and leave comments to have it adjusted.

Version 2.1.0

  • Assassination: No longer suggests to cast a 4 cp Rupture during the last tick of a 5 cp Rupture. This does not completely eliminate "A more powerful spell is already active," but it helps.
  • Assassination: Energy calculations now guestimate Venomous Wounds procs.
  • Assassination/Subtlety: Smarter flashing during Vanish.
  • Subtlety: Pools to 85 energy in preparation for cooldowns, down from 90.
  • Subtlety: Dynamically calculates the time to start pooling energy for cooldowns, instead of always starting 7 seconds before.
  • Subtlety: No longer waits for the 5th combo point during Shadow Dance.
  • Subtlety: Stops waiting for the 5th combo point sooner, to better avoid energy capping.
  • Subtlety: Now factors Energetic Recovery into future energy calculations.
  • Subtlety: No longer pauses at 5 combo points to wait for a higher priority finisher.
  • Subtlety: Vanish now only flashes when you have less than 3 combo points.
  • Subtlety: Energy calculations now guestimate Energetic Recovery procs.
  • All: Added Redirect.
  • All: All CP and energy calculations now take into account queued spells.

Version 2.0.2

  • Taking out of beta.

Version 2.0.1

This beta release uses Bitten's SpellFlash Library version 3. If you update you will also need to update any of your other Bitten's SpellFlash modules, which may also be in beta.

  • All: It now checks for instant poison specifically on your main hand, and deadly on your off.

    Hi.

The addon stopped working for me. Anything going on that I don't know about?

  • #94

Nothing I know of.  I have troubleshooting steps on the FAQ.  The question "Nothing ever flashes.  What's wrong?"

I just uninstalled and reinstalled it again, working perfect now. Thanks mate. :)

  • #91

Would this addon work if you were going to do raiding at 60, 70, 80, 85 etc?

  • #92

That is a good question that I cannot answer confidently.  I'm pretty sure 85 will be fine - as for the the lower levels - it all depends on whether you have the "key spells".  And I cannot tell you for sure what those "key spells" are.  :/

Sory man i check your addon now work shadow blades as well and all is fine ty for your answer on my post cheers.

this addon is not good at all much better is ASSASSIN rotation helper i made much more dps with ASSASSIN even though update for ASSASSIN addon is old since september 2012.This addon newer show RUPTURE and SHADOW BLADES and this 2 is wery important so think good before use this flash is not good at all try ASSASSIN and this and compare then you see diferences ty all.

  • #87

Sounds to me like you tried comparing them when solo against a target dummy, while this addon was in "Solo Mode".  Rupture will flash when you are in a group, or if you uncheck the "Solo Mode when not in Group" option.

As for Shadow Blades, you are correct it does not flash.  However, for the last few days I have been working on an update for the Rogue module, so that should be fixed soon.

<Edit:> The rotations are now all updated to use Shadow Blades, level 90 talents, and in general updated with new research.

Slight suggestion for Assassination.  Given the fact that Venomous Wounds relies so heavily on the mob having Rupture up when dying, shouldn't it flash Rupture after coming out of whatever given opener one chooses instead of instantly flashing Mutilate in Solo Mode?  I end up ignoring the first suggestion when I engage a mob, going Ambush -> 2pt Rupture -> Mutilate and then whatever else starts to flash.  Mob usually always ends up dying before Rupture falls off, netting a big refund in Energy.

Sorry I forgot to reply to this.  The answer, basically, is "I don't know."  I played with your suggestion, and I it wasn't clear to me which was getting me through quest mobs faster.

If rupture still has a lot of time left when the mob dies, and there is another mob to pull right away, then what you say makes perfect sense.  While I was experimenting, one or both of those was fairly often not true ... in the end I just couldn't tell a big difference either way.

Do you find it lets you get through (daily?) quests faster?

I don't know about dailies, but as I'm leveling my Rogue (86, going on 87), I'm finding that damage is high enough that a 2pt Rupture is still on the mob by the time it gets melted down, which usually brings me to full energy so I can stealth and Cloak & Dagger myself to the next [insert mob here] that needs to be killed sixty times or whatever.  Granted I'm using two Wind-Reaver Daggers, but still.

*shrug* if it's not something that is proving to be effective at max level for dailies, then keep the rotation the way it is.  It's not too hard to press a button that doesn't flash :P

Evening. I've been using Spellfash through 3 naming systems, so not new to concept. I do have a cmplaint on my  Horde Sub Rogue though. My poison spell flashes 24/7 even when applied. I try applying another poison which just over-writes the existing 1. Long ago, we had to apply to a particular weapon and so applied twice. But now, I believe the spell applies 1 poison to both weapons.

  • #84

Do you have both a lethal and non-lethal poison applied?  If so, and you have one of each on your action bar (instead of just using the generic fly-out), which is flashing?

Would it be possible to enable Rupture use for Solo Mode when running as Sub? The Sanguinary Veins passive seems to make it worthwile to at least apply Rupture at the pull.

  • #81

Nevermind, I'm a moron. Pull with Garrote and the issue is solved.
