About Bitten's SpellFlash: Rogue

This module flashes suggested spells for all three Rogue specs. You can find *lots* more information on its website.

If you download using the Curse Client it will come with everything you need. If you download your addons manually, you must also get SpellFlash.

Please see the FAQ before posting a question. If that doesn't address your issue, or you have a suggestion to improve this addon, please either leave a comment or create a ticket.

Bitten's SpellFlash modules replace Blizzard's default proc highlighting to flash the button you should press next to achieve maximum dps on a boss fight. Or if you are a tank, to maximize your survivability. For healers, they are just slightly smarter proc highlighters. Dps modules follow or are similar to priority schemes found in SimulationCraft and/or Icy Veins. Sometimes you have to be smarter than SpellFlash, e.g. when saving a cooldown for a specific boss mechanic, but in general following the recommendations will improve most people's performance.

Some modules have AoE modes. Check the descriptions of each rotation to see if one is available for the spec(s) you use.

Version 50400.1.5

  • The future of Bitten's SpellFlash: Rogue is in question. I no longer wish to maintain this addon, starting with patch 6.0. If you are interested in taking it over, keeping up with optimal rotations, and you have programming skills, please leave a comment or PM on Curse.

Version 50400.1.3

  • All: Bugfix - the new Recuperate flashing was broken.

Version 50400.1.2

  • All: Added flashing for Recuperate out of combat when solo.
  • All: Recuperate can now flashing during its last tick, since it will not be lost.
  • All: Flashes WoW's 9th Anniversary Celebration Package.

Version 50400.1.1

  • Bugfix update to Bitten's SpellFlash Library.

Version 50400.1.0

  • Combat: Anticipates combo points from Ruthlessness.
  • Combat: Use Marked for Death even with 1 combo point, since with Ruthlessness you will rarely be at 0.
  • All: Slightly improved resource anticipation.

Version 3.3.1

  • All: Now flashes food buffs.
  • All: Now flashes Shiv to dispel enrage effects.

Version 3.3.0

Update for patch 5.3:

  • Combat & Subtlety: Shuriken Toss is now only used when out of melee range (its dps benefit came from its low energy cost).
  • All: The "No Backsab List" now includes Qiang the Merciless.

Version 3.2.1

  • Assassination: Bugfix - the Mutilate-before-Rupture priority was broken.
  • All: Improved energy calculations when wearing 4pT15.
  • All: The "No Backstab List" now includes Azure Serpent.

Version 3.2.0

  • All: Revisited all three rotations, updating them with Shadow Blades and level 90 talents, along with other changes from new research.
  • Combat: Now tracks Bandit's Guile correctly when you miss.
  • Subtlety: Improved energy prediction (w/ Energetic Recovery).

Version 3.1.3

NOTE: This version includes a new version of Bitten's SpellFlash Library that I tried to test well, but if you find any issues please let me know right away.

  • Combat: Sinister Strike will no longer flash outside of melee range. This release is mostly about the update to the library.

Version 3.1.2

  • Assassination: No longer pause at 4 combo points to "refresh" Rupture if it is not up.
  • Combat: Never suggests a finisher when Revealing Strike is down.
  • Combat: Never tries to pool energy when solo.
  • Combat: Never tries to apply Slice and Dice early to last through Deep Insight when solo.
  • Combat & Subtlety: Don't flash Slice and Dice w/ less than 5 combo points when solo and you have Glyph of Deadly Momentum.
  • All: Added Recuperate flashing when solo and you have Glyph of Deadly Momentum.
  • All: Bugfix - Flashing Deadly Poison was broken.

Version 3.1.1

  • Missed Paralytic Poison in the last version.

Version 3.1.0

NOTE: Your options will be reset when you upgrade to this version.

  • Repackaging so that Bitten's SpellFlash Library is included with the addon, instead of downloaded separately.
  • Several other internal changes.
  • Combat & Subtlety: No longer flashes Ambush if you have Cloak and Dagger and the enemy is in the (resurrected) "No Shadowstep" list.
  • All: Added Marked for Death.
  • All: Added flashing for Non-Lethal Poisons.
  • All: No longer insists that you switch from Wound to Deadly Poison.

Version 3.0.0

  • Combat: Added a Combat rotation.
  • Subtlety: Bugfix - the energy from Relentless Strikes was not being anticipated for Eviscerate.
  • Subtlety: Bugfix - Shadow Dance and Preparation should have been flashing yellow. Now they are.
  • All: Added Expose Armor.

Version 2.4.3

  • Making the "Out of Date" status go away. Please report any real issues w/ the new patch.

Version 2.4.2

  • Subtlety: The detection of the glyph "Tricks of the Trade" and the talent "Subterfuge" were broken.
  • All: Removed chat frame spam during combat associated with the latest Bitten's SpellFlash Library release (which is what led me to find the bugs listed above).

Version 2.4.1

  • Bugfix: The options were messed up. Should be straightened out now.

Version 2.4.0

  • Assassination: Added an Assassination rotation.
  • Subtlety: Played with when Tricks of the Trade flashes.
  • Subtlety: Added Proto-Drake Egg to the list of things not to backstab.

Version 2.3.0

  • Added a Subtlety rotation for the MoP beta.

Version 2.2.1

  • Added the 2nd Burning Tendon to the Shadowstep blacklist.

Version 2.2.0

  • Assassination/Subtlety: Improved flashing during Vanish.
  • Assassination/Subtlety: There is now a blacklist of mobs on which to flash Backstab (like Ultraxion). Please see the description to see what they are, and leave comments to have it adjusted.
  • Combat: There is now a blacklist of mobs on which to flash Killing Spree (like Deathwing's Head). Please see the description to see what they are, and leave comments to have it adjusted.
  • Subtlety: There is now a blacklist of mobs on which to flash Shadowstep (like Ultraxion). Please see the description to see what they are, and leave comments to have it adjusted.

And it's never telling me to use Rupture.

Are you in a group when you're testing that?  If you are solo, and you have the option on for "Solo Mode when not Grouped", Rupture will not flash.

As for Tricks ... I'm a little torn.  I understand it's annoying for it to flash if you don't want to use it ... but it also meets all the criteria for something that I should flash.  It *should* be used as a part of regular combat, it should be prioritized with other spells, and it has less than a 5 minute cooldown.  If you really want to keep it on your bar, but stop it from flashing, you could put it in a macro without #showtooltip at the top ...

I can next week, I have no interest in running Garalon again this week in LFR, lol. Though wowhead has his ID listed as 62164 if that helps?

Not really, I'm a clicker, and I cannot click the keybind and then someone without causing a decent chunk of time getting missed. Lol. I have no issue with a usual rotation, but when it involves targeting something else, then it becomes a problem. I mean, I could glyph it, but it seems silly to nerf my ability to stop the spellflash. xD

And it's never telling me to use Rupture. I'm not sure if that's because you have Eviscerate to set to go off at 5 combo points or what, but it not once has told me to use Rupture. And no, Blade Flurry is not up. Even if I put on Rupture, and sit with 5 CP with SnD up, when Rupture runs out, it still doesn't flash.

The entire time I used this it only flashed 3 spells. Mutilate, Envenom and Tricks of the Trade

  • #61

It should definitely flash more than that.  Sorry I didn't have a description up for a long time ... that kinda fell through the cracks.  Did you ever check out "Why isn't spell X flashing" in the FAQ?

That would be fantastic. Thank you for the quick replies and keep up the great  work!

I didn't but I will def. take a look. Also, what is the reasoning behind not having a module for the combat spec? I am certainly not complaining as you do a wonderful job with the addon, just wondering.

There's no reasoning; I just haven't done it.  It and Marksmanship are the only 2 dps specs I haven't done, and all healers except Shammies.  If you would like Combat I will take that into consideration next time I'm motivated to write a new rotation.

<Edit:> And now there is a Combat rotation.

Do you flash redirect?  I find it extremely handy to know that I have combo points left when automatically switching targets.  It would be very nice if you would add that.  I really like this addon, thanks for making it.  I hope you'll be continuing to update it as we head toward 5.2

It should be flashing, yes.  Do you perhaps use a macro to cast it?  If so, have you looked at "My macro is not flashing" in the FAQ?

P.S.: There has not been any activity on this page in a long time!  Since you called my attention to it, I realized I had never finished writing the descriptions for the rotatations.  Now I have. :)

hi nice work on the modules i have an issue backstab doesn't flash right it only flashes when you have no energy or after you just used it lvl 65 rogue subtlty class

  • #56

Is this happening when solo or in a group?  (And if when solo, do you have "solo mode" turned on in the options?)

Unless you are in solo mode, there are wait times built into the rotation.  When you have 4 combo points, it waits to try to get the 5th using Honor Among Thieves.  If Shadow Dance or Vanish are off cooldown, or will be soon, it waits pooling your energy to use during Find Weakness / Master of Subtlety.  Does either of those explain what you are observing?

That is correct - there is no rotation for Combat.  Only Subtlety and Assassination.  I plan to add Combat eventually, but not yet.

<Edit:> And now there is a Combat rotation.
