About Bloodhound

If you have Find Herbs or Find Ore switched on, this add-on displays a red arrow on the minimap. Follow it and it will lead you to herb/ore nodes. Potential node locations show as red gems on the minimap. They're transparent so that you can see actual nodes.

The arrow points in the direction of "net pull" exerted by the nodes. The longer you go without visiting a node, the stronger it pulls. Once you visit it, the pull drops back to zero and the arrow points somewhere else. This will eventually lead you everywhere, but it's a dynamically updating system, responding to where you go automatically. Closer nodes pull more strongly, so it favors nearby clusters of nodes. If you choose to ignore the arrow and go somewhere else, the arrow will adjust to your new location which means you're not on a fixed track.

This mechanism is more efficient than a fixed route that visits all nodes in order, and also allows easy cross-zone farming.

The add-on is configurable in the Interface menu under Add-ons / Bloodhound. It allows you to select whether the cross-zone feature is enabled Never, While Flying, or Always.  It lists the zones in the current continent and lets you select which zones to include for the cross-zone feature. If that's disabled, it ignores nodes outside the current zone. It also lists the herbs and ore available on the current continent and lets you select the one's you're interested it. Unchecked node types don't exert any pull or show any indicator on the mini-map.

Update for Kung Fu Panda expansion. No other bug fixes.

    Agreed, the addon makes my game stutter and lag too

    Hi :) I'm Andreas.

    I write a gaming blog that's called The Noob.

    Every time I enter Shrine of The Two Moons in Vale of Eternal Blossoms I get this error:

    261x Bloodhound\Bloodhound-1.7.lua:287: attempt to index field "?" (a nil value)
    Bloodhound\Bloodhound-1.7.lua:287: in function "CalculateForce"
    Bloodhound\Bloodhound-1.7.lua:142: in function "UpdateMinimap"
    Bloodhound\Bloodhound-1.7.lua:109: in function "OnUpdateScript"
    Bloodhound\Bloodhound-1.7.lua:73: in function <Bloodhound\Bloodhound.lua:73>

    Locals:
    facing = 0
    cf = 1
    sf = 0

    By the way, when I am in this zone the map shows a generic Outland/Azeroth map as if the map does not exist. I think it might be related to that.

    One the previous comment page, user Zasurus wrote how to make Bloodhound compatible with HUD addons. Its actually the only thing preventing me from using this that I have to choose not to use a HUD.

    I hope you will add his modifications to your otherwise excellent addon.

  • #142

    Ah ok. I supposed it would work with SexyMap HUD as well. I will try his HUD then :)

  • #140

    I added his modifications quite a while ago.  It went in with version 1.6 on September 1. I verified that his changes work with his HUD, but I have no idea how it behaves with other HUDs.

    See description. "Potential node locations show as red gems on the minimap."  These are places where nodes are known to spawn, not places where nodes are currently spawned. Current spawn locations are not accessible to add-on code. Add-ons can only lead you to where they might be.

    HUD Display

    Does this addon work with and HUD addons?

  • #137

    I can't get it to work with SexyMap HUD. I really would love to see support.

  • #132

    It won't list "herbs (pandaria)" or "minerals (pandaria)" also showing nothing on minimap for pandaria.

    Is this the normal behavior, meaning an update is on its way?

  • #133

    Just updated. Give it a try now.
