About Broker_Garbage

Have you ever been in a situation where you just can't turn in a quest because your inventory is full? Trying to figure out an item to delete that's cheap and won't make you loose much gold? This is one of the many situations where Broker_Garbage makes your life easier.

What it does

Broker_Garbage shows your cheapest item(s) for easily freeing bag space. It uses your auction addon of choice for pricing, including disenchant prices if available. If you don't want to throw away that precious [Broken I.W.I.N. Button], put it on your Keep List and Broker_Garbage will keep it. Forever. Really! And those [Shiny Fish Scales]? Just put them on your Junk List.

Broker? As in buying apartments?

This addon is a LibDataBroker plugin and as such requires a display addon to work properly (i.e. to show funky tooltips). Some are Bagnon (WoWInterface, Curse), DockingStation (WoWInterface), NinjaPanel (very minimalistic) (WoWInterface, Curse) or Bazooka (WoWInterface, Curse).

You can disable almost all of these in the options panel. Default values are non destructive, so you don't loose anything by just installing the addon.

Broker_Garbage (Main Addon)

  • show cheap items in LDB tooltip to gain a quick overview
  • customize the LDB display text
  • temporarily disable the whole addon using a single button
  • supports auction values from: Auctionator, Auctioneer+Enchantrix (Auc-Advandced), AuctionLite, WoWecon
  • detect disenchantable items and consider disenchant prices if available
  • enabled item disenchanting directly in LDB tooltip
  • repairs your gear if possible (using guild funds, or not)
  • sells junk & chosen items to vendors
  • sells equipment you can't use nor trade/mail (e.g. plate quest rewards on a priest)
  • sells equipment you're not interested in (e.g. cloth on a warrior)
  • show unopened containers & clams reminder in the tooltip
  • manage your items using four simple lists - Keep, Junk, Sell, Fixed Price
  • lists can be character specific or shared account wide
  • lists support single items, Equipment Manager item sets or item categories (using LibPeriodicTable)
  • limit items such as Light Feather (never keep more than X of these)
  • restack your inventory if needed
  • keeps statistics of gains & losses
  • localized in English, German and simple Chinese (partially), works in any language

Broker_Garbage - Loot Manager

  • entirely optional plugin
  • uses your Broker_Garbage lists
  • intelligent autoloot - ignore cheap items if you have no bag space
  • clear skinnable mobs, loot when pickpocketing or fishing
  • option to auto destroy cheaper items to loot more valuable ones
  • option to destroy items over their limit
  • localized in English, German and simple Chinese (partially), some features might not work in other locales

As with any addon: I provide no warranty for this addon but it should do The Right Thing(tm). If it does *not* do The Right Thing(tm) or something doesn't feel right, leave me a note (see below) containing as much information on your problem as possible, so I can try to fix it.

If you have any suggestions for new features, write a comment and I'll think about it. Likewise, if you speak a language currently not supported please feel free to help me localize Broker_Garbage! Send me a message so I can get you started ;)

If you have and issue, feel free to use GitHub's or Curse's issue tracker. I'll get notified of any posts there immediately and updates to fix your problem will find their way there first as well! In your bug report (or feature suggestion) include any information I could need. Such information could be:

  • A stack trace/lua error message
  • Which version are you using? Where did you get it?
  • Is it connected to an action, item, character class? If so, which?
  • What is happening - and what would you expect to happen, instead?

Further information, hints, etc

How to disable it temporarily?

Hold down your chosen disable key (SHIFT by default). If you want to prevent looting or selling, hold it until the corresponding frame shows up!

Tooltip Shortcuts

  • SHIFT + Click: Delete the item on that line
  • CTRL + Click: Add the item on that line to your Keep List
  • ALT + Click: Add the item on that line to your Fixed Price List

How to add item categories?

Right-click on the blue "+" button on the options panel. Then choose your desired entry.

How to limit an item?

This on any list except for Fixed Price List. Use your mouse wheel to increase/decrease the count, hold SHIFT while doing so to move 10 steps at a time.

What of those question mark item icons?

Those are items your client doesn't know yet. Hover them to update the display.

Anything else?

Broker_Garbage uses the slash command /garbage (or /garb in short). For more detailed information on how things work, have a look at the readme.txt files in the addon folders.

This is the one addon remaining on my UI that needs updating to make the errors disappear. I could disable it, but this mod is so damn helpful. I hope it isn't dead, but my confidence is waning.

Will this addon be updated? I'm having some thrubles using it: I have a low fps every time I try to loot anything. Disabling the addon will solve the problem.

Please update it if you can, i really like this addon.

    Hi Xadras,

I have been working on a complete overhaul of Broker_Garbage's internals. Unfortunately, it takes its sweet time. You can try the version on GitHub, however many things will not work yet, such as configuration and the LootManager. If you do want to try it, make sure to backup your WTF settings.

I'm hoping to get the update done soon(tm) but can't promise anything.

Hi guys, I'm currently AFC (away from code) and even though I'm itching to fix things, I simply can't at the moment. Unfortunately, you'll somehow have to hold out another couple of weeks until I find some time to patch BG up (and explore patch 5.3!).

    Sorry for the delay :(

  • #229

So I got the version from CurseForge instead of here and it's back to working! No selling of my greys. Apparently I had an old version or something, gah.  :/  I'll report any other problems if I see any from 5.3!

  • #225

I posted before that this addon was breaking and selling grey "saved" items and you fixed it... 5.3 has broken it again and it's back to selling grey vendor items that are in the saved list.  :(  Fortunately, I caught it after it sold them and could get them all back, but you might want to check into what broke for it again to fix it up. I disabled it for now since I don't want to risk losing those hard-to-get items.

To get this error I loaded into the game and started trading with a Vendor.  So naturally it sold all my garbage... AND gave me the following error.  So the addon does still function instead of breaking.

    Hi Techsgtchen!

I can't completely check at the moment, but it seems like you are using the latest release version. Since then (it's already been 3 months, oh my...) I've made quite a few changes. While not everything is fully tested, documented and configurable at the moment, you may still want to update to a more recent beta (or, if you're brave, even alpha) version. I'm not sure if that fixes your problem, but I did rewrite the money display code that's  reporting your error, so you might as well try that :)

You can find those on Curseforge ( or configure your Curse Client (if you're using that) to grab development versions of BG. To do so, simply right-click the BG addon in your Curse Client's installed addons list and change your preferred version.

    Wrong versions

The latest files in Curse are marked to be for version 5.2.0, while their .toc claims them still be for older version.

  • #228

It seems Curse pulls those infos from the latest uploaded files. In this case, there are several beta and alpha versions available on Curseforge that should include the correct TOC version, even though the latest release-flagged version does not. You'll find the link in the comment above yours :)

Please note, though, that I've not yet checked BG for patch 5.3 and won't be able to do so for quite a while.

Ever since the update before last, my junk is no longer being sold at vendors. Was some setting changed that I'm missing? The sell all button is grayed out, say there's nothing to be sold, when there definitely is.

  • #218

    Hi dragoron,

Can you please open a ticket at ? There've been quite a few changes and updates in the last couple of days so please make sure to update to the latest (alpha) version. Any further information, such as what are your sell rules etc. might be helpful, too.

  • #219

It looks like it's not selling junk that appears in my engineering bag, just as an FYI.

Been using this addon for a long time, a great addon, I love it to bits.

The 5.2 patch though, is making it behave badly. After 5.2 landed, the addon sold greys that were in my bags. It took me a day to notice, and unfortunately I wasn't able to get them retrieved through either the item retrieval system or a GM request (one item is irreplaceable, so suffice to say, I'm super sad about it hiccuping like this). I wasn't sure if the items disappeared because of 5.2 or because of the addon, but I was able to get some of the items back by farming, and tested it. It is definitely the addon that sold them. Details:

    1) Six items are on my "Exception" list to not vendor. These items have been on the list and in my bags for up to several years, and have not been vendored before despite using this addon for a long time.

    2) The items are still currently on the exception list. I can view them (which is why I knew which items I had to go farm back up).

    3) I've replaced four of the six items. They are still on the exception list. The icon to "vendor all" is still highlighted, despite no other grey vendor items being in my bags.

    4) I tested the vendor all button and it again sold all my grey vendor items that I confirmed again are on my exception list.

I've had to shut off the addon so I don't accidentally vendor the items again (two are archeology items that are a pain in the butt to grind back out). There's no errors popping up and I'm not sure what to add other than summarize it as "the addon is currently vendoring grey items that are listed on the exception 'do not vendor' list". I updated the addon when 5.2 landed, and I updated it again today "just in case" (I delete the original folders from the Interface/Addons folder, then copy the new version over... I have not deleted the WTF files though).

Just to test it, I removed the config files from the WTF folder, re-added the greys to the list, and then checked the vendor all. It still wants to sell the items despite being added to a fresh install/list of exceptions. Definitely broken.
