About Chat Notes
Chat Notes is a small utility that allows you to assign notes to players chat messages. Every Guild, Party, Say, Channel and Wisper, message will have the Chat Note added next to the players name.
This functionality used to exist in PALs, CTPlayerNotes, FriendNotes, GuildOrg. The API's changed enough that most of these don't work and haven't been updated. So I wrote this Addon from the ground up.
The notes appear in between the ( ).
[2: Trade] [Bugsby]: (Steven) WTS 4xSolid Stone [1: General] [Leroy]: (Very BAD tank) LFG for Gruuls [4: Guild] [Liltroy]: (Troys Alt) Good morning everyone
This is very helpful when you are in a large guild, with many alts.
- This Addon uses a single global list of player names, so comments are shared between servers and characters. This may change in the future.
- Notes that are made in the Friends list, are also read and presented as well.
- Guild Notes are enabled by default, and can be turned off with /cn off.
Simply right-click on a character's name in the Chat window to bring up the Chat Notes menu, where you can Add/Modify, or Remove a note.
Type "/chatnotes" or "/cn" to display a tiny help.

Just a version update to get it to work with 4.3
I just bought the annual pass, so you can be sure I'll have updates for the next release.
thus the name in the "who" list highlighted in color if they have a note?
It is very time consuming to click on each player to see if I have added him a note
you should see if anyone has a notebook, without which he writes something in chatt
Also, while Im here, a gentle prod about the possibility of a list of everybody you've added? (so you can copy the file in case of disaster or copy/paste the list etc), and also the suggestions made by kurobon below?
1) Add the chatnote to the player tooltip? Basically, a way to see chatnotes for the players if they don't say anything.
2) option to suppress chatnotes for members of the current group/raid. Instead of showing the note, it could just show "(*)" to indicate that there IS a chatnote for that player and with #1 in play, we could just hover-over their name to see the chatnote on their tooltip if we wanted to. They'd be some awesome additions =)
Thanks for the update and sorry about mumm and rowan.
I know mumm can't be without her chat notes.
Jaxom - Hellfire
Seriously though, I think chat notes has to be in my top 3 'must have' add-ons. I recommend it to everyone, cos they'll all find it useful in their own way.
It would be awesomely delicious if there was some way you could bring up a list of everybody you've got comments for, and the comment. As the ability is there in other places - (the ignore list and Vanos KOS spring to mind as in and out of game examples)- could chat notes take advantage of it at all? - possible/impossible!?
