About ChatSounds

Description

I often miss guild and party messages popping up on my screen since they don't make a sound.
I figured I'd make a mod to solve the problem. :)

Features

  • Can play new sounds for
    • Whispers
    • Guild
    • Officer
    • Party and Party Leader
    • Raid and Raid Leader
    • Battlegrounds and BG Leader
    • Custom player joined channels
  • Force Whisper sounds for every whisper.
  • Blacklist specific custom channels (for example hidden channels joined by addons)
  • Allows users to /r after sending a whisper without getting a reply.
  • Has a Configuration Dialog Box which is accessible through the comic bubble icon next to the Chat Frame.
  • Saves its settings per character.

Configuration

  • Click the comic bubble icon on top of the Chat Frame and select 'ChatSounds' from the menu.
  • '/chatsounds' at the command prompt.
    • '/chatsounds ?' will give help for extra commands.

i'm haveing a problem i never had before 4.3 , i use my own sounds that i add to the chat sounds folder & add to list as i have for a while , but since 4.3 and the latest chat sounds update , 3 of the sounds work fine , the other wont work properly , when i select the sound file for g chat for instance every time someone types in chat i get this ear pierceing screech instead of my sound , i have tried checking the sound out of wow and it works fine , i have tried re nameing the files , setting the files on other choices (instead of gchat , i tried wisp or officer etc) but the same files wont work , i can set the 3 that work to anything and they are fine , i even tried re installing the mod and setting it up again  with the same result

i have done this for a while and it always worked perfectly in the past

    TY for any help

I'm having a problem. If someone has their or status up, and they talk, the sound does not play. It may only be a problem for custom channels, I'm not sure.
  • #78
Well I found the problem, which you probably already new. You specifically silenced them with this line:
    0 then return end
But I don't know why. I modified the line to:
    0 then return end
and it's working fine for me. I saw the comment earlier about people not being informed of afk status, but I've not experienced that problem since changing the line.

I posted before about having to turn up the sound effects to hear Chatsounds. You then posted later that that was not fixable due to Blizzard's new way of doing things. I would like to say that something must have changed because PowerAuras is now able to play on the master channel instead of the sound effects channel. And, yes, I have tested this to make sure they were correct. So, if they can do it, then I am curious if you have the ability to do it. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
  • #76
Yes that is a recent change and I will probably put it in.
  • #70
Also got the same problem as skatman3489.
Before I could hear the channel sounds without having blizzards sound turned on.
Any chance to fix this? Thanks..

This is not something this addon (or any other) can fix.

It is a change in the default client with WoW 4.0.1 and later.
Previously PlaySoundFile() (the function this and all addons that play sounds - like BossMods - are using) would play the sound regardless if you had game sound enabled or not.

This is currently not the case and there's nothing we can do about it.

Hi I have downloaded the update todate addon but on the list in game it says it is out of date and I get no sounds in game. Also please can you tell me how to get the options dialog box to come up? Thank you
  • #68
I will push a .toc update but you could just tick "load out of date addons" in addon screen for now.

The addon works fine for WoW 4.0.1.

Options are accessible from the chat-bubble button above your chat
or if you are running some custom chat mod that is hiding it,
    by typing /chatsounds

I'm have an issue with this addon now. Since the patch landed, I can't hear the sounds unless I turn up blizzard's crap sounds. This was not the case before. Plz, help us if you can. Thank you.

    I'm getting these weird errors:

    ChatSounds blocked from using PartyMemberFrame1:Show()
    Count: 4

    Call Stack:
    [C]: in function `Show'
    Interface\FrameXML\PartyMemberFrame.lua:117: in function `PartyMemberFrame_UpdateMember'
    Interface\FrameXML\PartyMemberFrame.lua:318: in function `PartyMemberFrame_OnEvent'
    [string "*:OnEvent"]:1: in function `OnEvent'
    Interface\FrameXML\UnitFrame.lua:417: in function

    ChatSounds blocked from using PartyMemberFrame1:SetAttribute()
    Count: 2

    Call Stack:
    [C]: in function `SetAttribute'
    Interface\FrameXML\UnitFrame.lua:64: in function `UnitFrame_SetUnit'
    Interface\FrameXML\PartyMemberFrame.lua:44: in function `PartyMemberFrame_ToPlayerArt'
    Interface\FrameXML\PartyMemberFrame.lua:27: in function `PartyMemberFrame_UpdateArt'
    Interface\FrameXML\PartyMemberFrame.lua:319: in function `PartyMemberFrame_OnEvent'
    [string "*:OnEvent"]:1: in function `OnEvent'
    Interface\FrameXML\UnitFrame.lua:417: in function

It goes on to repeat for 25 different frames, like all party members, pet frame, etc.

Should be solved in the 0.3.9 version (works on live and cataclysm beta)

Unfortunately, there needs to be an update for this now. There is no sound for this new RealID chat stuff. I keep missing people talking to me because i have become so reliant on chatsounds.

I know this was discussed earlier, but I didn't understand so if someone can clarify I'd appreciate it. How do you make the "tinking" noise stop without totally disabling the add-on? Someone mentioned it had to do with Carbonite (which I am also using).
  • #64
glad to see the answer to this, that ticking is annoying to say the least, btw...u get this if u have EVER had Carbonite, I uninstalled it and have reloaded everything from scratch (new PC) and I still get that ticking.
