About Chinchilla Minimap

Chinchilla Minimap alters the Blizzard Minimap in a way to provide much nicer features and other niceties.

Appearance
Allows changing of blip size (useful since 3.1), border style, shape of the map (doesn't have to be circular, or even square, lots of options are available), size, etc.
Auto Zoom
Zoom out the map automatically after 20 seconds (or so).
Compass
A more flexible north-east-south-west indicator.
Coordinates
Show your location coordinates.
Expander
Make the minimap very big temporarily (good for gathering or finding a tough-to-spot enemy).
Location
Show the name of your location more flexibly.
Move Buttons
Move the buttons around the minimap to wherever you want (even off the minimap entirely).
Ping
Show which team-mate pinged the minimap.
Position
Position the minimap and frames around it.
Range Circle
Show on the minimap where your range extends to.
Show / Hide
Show or hide various frames related to the minimap.
Tracking Dots
Change the dots on the map to a different set of images. Very handy, especially if you suffer from colorblindness.
Wheel Zoom
Mousewheel to zoom the minimap.

Version 2.4
- Updated for WoW 4.2.0.

- Added a feature that allows you to toggle the tracking menu on mouse-click.
- Added an option that allows you to "unclamp" frames and drag them off the screen. Thanks to Kynn for the idea.

Version 2.1.5

Like so many others I really like your add on. The default minimap is too small to be useful for me.

I seem to be having a problem with my character stuttering. In flight, running, in combat. I simply stop what I am doing for a moment (length of time varies) and then everything resumes.

I am not a power user and am reluctant to lay the fault at anyone's doorstep. All too often it belongs at mine.

I have removed all addons and the problem disappears. I reenable Chinchilla and the problem reoccurs. I will continue to experiment with other addons in an attempt to see if the problem occurs with just some other add on too but it appears to be Chinchilla. Have you had this problem before and is there anything I should be doing.

Thanks for your efforts. They are appreciated!

Ignore everything in the above post except the compliments. My character still does the stutter step without any addon installed. I checked it for a longer time and it finally did it. IT IS NOT A PROBLEM WITH CHINCHILLA!

I'm unable to hide the "Location" at the top of the map.

    Example:  http://i.imgur.com/UOBAV.jpg

Am I doing it something wrong?  Everything else seems to work perfectly for me.

    Chinchilla & TomTom

Not sure if it's a Chinchilla problem or a TomTom problem but when I change the Blip Size in Chinchilla, TomTom's waypoints and arrow on the minimap scale their distance from minimap's centre.

TT waypoints are off of their intended "objective" (e.g. a quest blip) and slowly approach teir correct spot as I close on them. It's pretty easy to replicate, just set blip Size under 100%. I'm going to post this report on both addons page.

    Thanks!

I've chosen to hide each and every minimap button of chinchilla. However, often (especially when I log in) the following buttons are visible again.
    -Tracker
    -Time
    -Calendar
    -Zoom in/out
    -World map
What I have to do to hide them again is:
    -typ "/chin"
    -Go to "Show/Hide"
-Click enable twice to turn it on and off again.

This hides the buttons again but sometimes it just pops up again and I have to retake the above steps to hide them.
It's annoying and I have no idea what is causing it.
Loading nothing but chinchilla still gives this problem so it's a chinchilla problem I would assume.

I have tried to replicate this but so far, everything works as it should be.

Something is conflicting with it on your end, or your settings aren't being saved properly when you logout.

  • #1023

I'm not sure if this is a Chinchilla bug, I think it's a Blizzard bug, but I'm hoping Chinchilla can put in a workaround that fixes Blizzard's bug.

Quest POI's.  They are incredibly useful when questing, however whenever I log in, it tracks whatever quest I had in the top most slot when I logged in.  Only.  As I move around the world and other quests become closer (I sort by proximity) it still stays 'locked on' to that one quest.  And if I do that one quest, then the quest POI simply fails to work at all for the rest of my gaming session.

Is there any way Chinchilla could 'detect' when the 'closest quest' changes and somehow 'reset' the quest POI tracking so that it continuously shows quest POI for my closest quests?

  • #1024

Alright, I've done some more research and testing.  It turns out "QuestHelperLite" was causing this problem.

What I'm trying to figure out how to do now is how to get the closest quest to always be the active quest.

  • #1018

since you have a way to manipulate the quest tracker, why not make it moveable as well, I do not like my map sitting inside the quest objectives trackers :(

If this is possible, then how do you do it?

  • #1021

Go to the Position section of the config. You can find it there, listed as "quest and achievement tracker".

  • #1022

Awesome sir, ty very much! I missed it.

  • #1017

Great map, best I've found.  Thanks.

Occassional Interface errors created with it here:

  • #1020

There is nothing I can do about this. One of your other addons is causing the issue and Blizzard's (imho, god-awful) code is blaming Chinchilla.

Chinchilla doesn't touch arena frames or buff frames in any way, shape or form.

    Sorry.

The new update from about an hour ago is making all tracking icons, quest icons, any type of icon, blink inside the map. I tried disabling and reenabling the addon, restarted wow a few times. any ideas?

    My bad, sorry.
