About Compact Runes

Warlords of Draenor Beta

The latest alpha versions will work on live or beta. For beta, you will need to enable the "Load Out of Date Addons" option. You can download the latest alpha here:

If you have trouble getting the alpha, you can download a beta version here:

Compact Runes is a re-write of DocsDebugRunes. It preserves the compact UI but adds additional features.

It tracks the following items:

  • Runes with an optional setting to show a numeric timer for each rune.
  • Runic Power
  • Diseases and time left
  • Disease Strength. The numeric timer on the diseases will change based on the value of re-applying diseases:
    • Red: Re-applying would result in less disease damage.
    • White: Re-applying would result in no change.
    • Yellow: Re-applying would increase the disease damage.
    • Green: Re-applying would increase the disease damage by more then the configurable threshold.
  • Sudden Doom, Shadow Infusion, and Dark Transformation for Unholy
  • Rime/Freezing Fog and Killing Machine for Frost
  • Blood Charges for the Blood Tap talent.
    • By default a new bar is used that replaces the Dark Transformation bar. If you are Unholy, the bars are placed side-by-side.
    • You can also enable it as a proc. It is off by default.
  • Blood Shield
  • LDB/Minimap Icon Support
  • RC Procs are indicated with a white border.
  • RE procs, RC procs, and wasted Blood Charges tracking in the LDB tooltip
  • Crimson Scourge is shown as a proc.
  • Out of melee range is indicated by a red border. This option can be disabled.
  • An optional "Almost ready" rune state. The alpha can be adjusted independently for it.
  • A Plague Leech proc, if enabled, is shown when the time left on Plague Strike is below a certain threshold. You can optionally require that Outbreak will be off cooldown too.
  • A Soul Reaper proc that shows up if you have the spell, your target is under 35% health, and Soul Reaper is not on cooldown. The cooldown also includes runes not being ready.

Love the addon! Is there any way you could add an in-combat dim?

  • #38

I added both combat and out of combat alpha control in the latest alpha of it.

You can control the transparency / dimming on it from 1 (full) to 0 (hidden).

The blood shield bar doesn't work (version 0.9, german x64 wow-client).

reinstall and delete WTF-files doesn't help.

    Any ideas? =(

Are you getting any errors?  The only thing that should prevent it from showing is if the Blood Shield setting is disabled.  You could send me any errors or the LUA settings file and I could see if I could find any thing.  The LUA setting file is at <WoW Folder>/WTF/Account/<Account Name>/SavedVariables/CompactRunes.lua.

Version 1.1 works great, thx a lot :)

Absolutely love this addon, just wondering if there's a way to set Soul Reaper procs to 45% instead of 35%, as the Tier 15 4pc set bonus modifies it. Thanks.

  • #31

I added some code to detect the T15 gear in the 0.8.5 alpha.  It will count the number of T15 pieces and at 4+ Soul Reaper should "proc" at 45% instead of 35%.

Can you please verify if it works correctly?  You can find it here:

Thank you for the update. The alpha version works correctly with the T15 set bonus.

Good work, but is there a way to unlock the disease, and move to another location?

It would also be nice if you could scale the entire display even smaller

I will soon be adding options to unlock the other bars and move them.

You can control the size of the rune bars and the rest of the UI scales based on that, by default.  Does that not accomplish what you want?

  • #28

Hi talryn,  thanks for the reply and I am glad to hear that it will soon be possible to move the other bars. For example I have a very small ui and the size "10" is still too big to adapt it to the rest.

I love the new Disease power tracking function. No issues this time just wanted to say this is a great addon and I recommend it to every Death Knight i can

    Hey Talryn,

First off, I LOVE this addon. I have a small request, that basically stems from my ocd. Is there any way to make the addon -not- dim when you are out of combat? The fact that it dims has always bugged me since nothing else on my screen dims, but I've lived with it. I've been revamping a lot of my addons recently and figured I might as well ask. Also, is there any way to make the rune and blood shield bar wider so it matches the width of the group of runes? Thanks in advance!

Thanks.  You can control how dim it is using the OOC Alpha slider in the options.  That controls the transparency out of combat.  Just set it to 1.0.

I'm not positive on the second question.  The sides of those bars should match up with the sides of the runes so that left side should be about where the left side of the left-most rune is.  The right side is about where the right side of the right-most rune is.  Are you asking if it is possible to have it extend the entire way across the rune display so it is as wide as the rune display (incuding the border)?

  • #23

The width of the Runic Power Bar and Blood Shield Bar are dynamic at the moment.  They are the size of two runes plus the gap between the runes so that it should span the same distance as the rune pairs.

I guess I could add an option that would switch it so it is as wide as the entire rune display.  I've been trying to avoid too many options because it can make it fairly complex for people.

The disease timers are the same size as the rune bars so that is why the bottom two bars are also based on the rune bar width.
