About Core Hound Pup Quieter

Note: You can leave a private message for me here: Talk to Skulhamr

Keep the antics of your cute little Core Hound Companion Pup but reduce the annoying barks by 20db. I realized that I'd have this little guy out more if I didn't have to listen to his strange barking so loudly. This tiny addon takes no memory but makes those irritating barks tolerable.

To Install: Extract the "Data" folder contained in this zip file into your World of Warcraft folder. This will create a folder called "Sound" under (inside) the game's "Data" folder. When the game runs it will substitute any sounds it finds there for equivalent sounds in the game. (See screenshot images for illustration.) Do not use the Curse Client Auto-installer. It is a known problem that it does not handle sound mod addons properly.

To Uninstall: Rename or delete the "Sound" folder under (inside) your game's "Data" folder.

Notes on Installation: Zip/Unzip programs vary in how they work. The end result must be that a folder called "Sound" is created under (inside) your game's "Data" folder. Restart game after installation. (If your Unzip program is confusing you, try unzipping to your Desktop and then simply copying the "Sound" folder to your WoW "Data" folder.)

Welcome to my second sound addon.  Although I created my first one (Core Hound Lava Sound Quieter) in 2009, I hadn't been paying much attention to it since it is unaffected by game patches and therefore requires no updates.  That is until last week when a user (Megathraxx) posted a message that his Core Hound lava sound had suddenly gotten much louder.  Oops!  Come to find out that in patch 4.3, an "ogg" sound file had been added to the folder so I had to replicate it and send an update.

I tell you this to explain that Core Hound Pup Quieter probably wouldn't have been made if that user's message hadn't prompted me to start digging around in my tools again.  Once there, I started thinking about how much more I'd use my Core Hound pup if he didn't do that awful barking.

What I take away from this is the importance of taking a few minutes to leave comments for authors.  If we don't know it's broken, we can't fix it.  Likewise if you have a good idea, we can't know about it unless you share it.  So megathanks to Megathraxx for reminding me of this.

And if you've read this far, you get the Attention Span Award for the week and a suitably silenced Core Hound pup!
