About DataStore

DataStore is the main component of a series of addons that serve as data repositories in game. Their respective purpose is to offer scanning and storing services to other addons.

The advantages of this approach are:

  • data is scanned only once for all client addons (performance gain).
  • data is stored only once for all client addons (memory gain).
  • addon authors can spend more time coding higher level features.
  • each module is an independant addon, and therefore has its own SavedVariables file, meaning that you could clean _Crafts without disturbing _Containers.

Scope : a note to contributing authors

The core of the database is based on my work in Altoholic, and is thus designed with multiple-account support in mind. If client addons want to store data from foreign accounts, the database will be ready for it. Nothing is final at this point though, feel free to contribute, as the concept can and will be perfected.

The scope of each addons is to provide common methods for client addons. For instance, DataStore_Crafts embeds LibPeriodicTable-3.1-Tradeskill allowing it to give more than just scanning & storing data. However, the goal is not to put _everything_ into these addons, they must be seen as an abstraction layer and a service provider, nothing more.

These libraries cannot and should not be embedded, as they all manage their respective SavedVariables.

Existing modules

Each module will exist as a separate addon, so that authors can package only the ones they want with their own project.

More modules will come later.

I just spent two hours purposely dying in Grim Batol trying to hunt this down as well. It's definitely DataStore causing problems. For me, it manifests itself as a disconnect when releasing after death in an instance. Worst part was that turning off Altoholic didn't expose it since DataStore is a dependency of Altoholic, not vice versa.

I was wondering if anyone else freezes after releasing spirit. WoW freezes for 5 seconds with this addon enabled for me. I see it hasn't been updated in a year. I might just disable this addon. Anyone else have this happen to them?

My screen would freeze for a half second every time I would do anything that gave me reputation. Killing mobs or handing in quests that gave me no rep would not freeze my screen like this though. I finally sat down to find out which mod was causing this and I disabled this one first since I can't even remember why I had installed it...and the problem went away!

One of the funny things about this bug is that you can be handing in quests all over the place then it decides to not allow you to hand them in for some reason. Even after downloading the newest version of Altoholic it still does it, which can be a tad annoying. As a customer, I really do appreciate the work the programmers have gone through to create this product and I look forward to future updates.

Its not the addons, but the Saved Variable files that are kicking up the errors!!!

It is imposable to turn in a large number of quests with this turned on. Ive tried waiting for an update but as 90% of the quests i do i cant turn in without going in turning this off reloading my UI turning it in turning this back on and reloading my UI again, im getting really pissed off at this point and you need to get this fixed soon. It is game breaking, and i have a lot of addons that use this, or i would just get rid of it.
  • #39
Bump. I have the same issue. Fel Spirits in hellfire is one example of a quest that will not turn in. Almost all others turn in just fine.
  • #40
Disabling the DataStore_quests is all that is needed.
  • #44
Or doing what everyone else has said, and delete the saved variables. Remember folks, it went from 3.3.5 to 4.0.1, some things need to be erased to be reinitialized.

Also had to Disable Datastore to do quest handins... but needless to say ... it is NOT really an option as i am sure we all want out Data to be.. well Stored. IF it is is only Altoholic that has the issue i find it hard to believe as if you disable Altoholic then the hand ins should work ... but they dont .... so maybe a combination of the two somehow..... oh and you dont need to disable Altoholic... just Datastore_Quest
