About Doom_CooldownPulse

If you are an AddOn author and want to contribute to the code base, please feel free to submit a pull request to the AddOn's GitHub repository

What does it do?

Ever wanted to know when a certain ability will come off cooldown, but you're too caught up in a fight to notice? Doom_CooldownPulse is designed to fix that problem! It flashes the icon of the ability in the middle of your screen whenever it becomes usable again.

Great! Now.. how do I set it up?

Doom_CooldownPulse requires no initial setup; just install and you're good to go! However, the options frame (which is accessable by typing /dcp) allows very easy customization. You can change all of the following:

  • Icon size
  • Icon position (press the unlock button)
  • Fade in time
  • Fade out time
  • Max opacity (transparency)
  • Max opacity hold time
  • Animation scaling (how big/small it gets when it flashes)
  • Cooldowns to ignore
  • Overlay color for pet cooldown pulses

It is intended to be very easy to customize, and your changes take effect immediately. You can see how your settings will look by pressing the "Test" button, or reset them to the default settings by pressing the "Defaults" button.

Isn't this very similar to another addon, JIM's Cooldown Pulse?

Yes, the concept was originally developed by JIM. However, JIM has since gone MIA due to his new job and no longer updates his addon. I was able to get in touch with him, and he is very much supportive of Doom_CooldownPulse. Doom_CooldownPulse is neither an updated version nor a direct clone, but instead an alternative option with the same concept.

Version 1.2.12
- Updated TOC number for Patch 6.0
- Please let me know if you're having any WoD issues!

Version 1.2.11
- Updated TOC number for Patch 5.4
- Fix for some spells not appearing (thanks, vinsonb!)

Version 1.2.10
- Updated TOC number (should no longer show as out of date)

Version 1.2.9
- Updated TOC number (should no longer show as out of date)
- Added feature: Show spell name text on pulse

Version 1.2.8
- Fix error introduced with 4.2 (sorry for the long delay, I don't really play anymore and wasn't aware of the comments)

Version 1.2.7
- Fixed error from Patch 4.1 COMBAT_LOG_EVENT change

Version 1.2.6
- Fixed a compatibility issue with Bartender 4 (thanks @ Codex)
- More importantly to unflag as inactive (I'm still alive!)

Version 1.2.5
- Should now properly save settings between sessions

Version 1.2.4 (Cataclysm Update)
- Fixed error from "GetItemCooldown"
- Please let me know if any other issues occur with Doom_CooldownPulse in 4.0.1 by leaving me a comment.

Version 1.2.3
- Updated TOC for Patch 3.3
- General code cleanup, including a few changes that should hopefully increase efficiency a bit

Version 1.2.2
- Overhaul of item cooldown monitoring, which produced condensed, more efficient code, and fixes problems with trying to ignore items you use from your cast bar via keybind.

Version 1.2.1
- Just a TOC version update to clear any confusion about whether this is still up to date (it is!)

Version 1.2
- New! Due to popular demand, you can now specify cooldowns you wish to ignore!
- New! You can now set a color overlay for your pet cooldowns (by default, there is no overlay)
- New! Missed the old heart-beat sound from JIM's Cooldown Pulse? Drag the lubdub.wav sound file from JIM's addon into the Doom_CooldownPulse folder and you now have a sound notification
- Fix: Now properly tracks cooldowns from items used from your cast bar via key-bind.
- Fix: Now properly tracks non-hunter/warlock pet cooldowns (mages: you may want to make use of the color overlay since Water Elemental's Freeze ability has the same icon as Frost Nova)

  • #315

wonder if the author is still playing and can provide us a update for this mod, hope so!

  • #313

not working properly for some new(er) items such as bottled wishes

  • #311

Really annoying for my rogue...I have the icon appear a little off-centered from my character when i play. When i have a poison on my throwing weapon (no idea what triggers it) but i will get a constant flashing icon of my throwing weapon right over top of my character that i can not move and it never stops. Anything to do to fix this problem? Thank you!

  • #312

Can you try adding the name of your throwing weapon to list the list of ignored skills in the option panel, and see if that resolves your issue?

  • #314

Morningstar Shard, Fan of Knives, Wound Poison

That what i put and it still gives me this issue.

Shame that you no longer play wow, I've used  this addon ever since I found out what addons were. Thank you very much.

  • #308

Shadow ward for locks doesn't popup either.

  • #306

Addon works great, except for some reason, Frostfire Orb is not popping up on my mage. Only problem I've had so far. Any ideas?

  • #305

Hi; can i ignore "quest items"? very thx for help

  • #303

doesn't work for me at all since 4.3.3

  • #304

Have you ensured that you have the "Load out of date AddOns" in your AddOn menu (from the character screen)? If sure, enable Lua errors on your interface options and let me know what errors you receive. I can't imagine it just wouldn't work with no errors being displayed.

  • #301

Is there any option to have a "positive list", instead of an negative(-ignore-)list?

Or any syntax for the ignore-field, to ignore all CDs expect some? Something like, ignore:
    -* ; +(cast1,cast2)

This would be great. I only want to watch my two main heal-spells, which I always want to hold on CD.

  • #302

Hi Nyks. This is something I'd like to add in a future release if I ever was to make one (I no longer play WoW). But, this is simple enough code adjustment to force the list to work in reverse. I've uploaded a copy for you here to use: . It will still say "Ignored spells", but just insert the spells you want to track, and it will work as you'd expect.
