About EventAlert

The addon will notify you in the middle of your screen with an icon, name of the spell that has procced, the time left on the proc and will make a subtle sound. EventAlert is also able to handle more than one proc at a time (this option was not available in previous versions).

I am not fond of addons that have very complicated installation and setups. The mod should work on install without any config, but if you wish to change any options use the following command: /ea options
To see a more detailed list of what options are avaiable to the mod, just check out the screenshot of the options pane.

Quick Backstory: I created this addon as a test for myself as my first "from the ground up" addon. Most of my coding in WoW LUA was taking other addons and just fixing them so they work from minor bugs or whatnot.

Anyhow, I needed a mod that was lightweight and did only what I wanted it to do, and that was warn me when one of my spells or talents procced something I needed. Thus, EventAlert was born. There are likely to be bugs, explosions and not so good things that may come from this mod. I'm sorry in advance! If you find a bug, please let me know so I can fix it.

Also, if anyone finds a spell/talent/etc that they want watched, please let me know and I will add it!

Greetings everyone, my name is Menio and I will be taking over the maintenance of this addon from CurtisTheGreat, the original author!

I'll start with an important note: If you used EventAlert before in your current WoW folder, you will need to delete the EventAlert.lua and EventAlert.lua.bak files located at:
\World of Warcraft\WTF\Account\ACCOUNTNAME\SavedVariables for this addon to work.

Above is CurtisTheGreat's original description, with updated class abilities.

5.2.1
Bugfix: Fixed timers for alerts with more than 30 seconds remaining.
Bugfix: Attempting to fix an ongoing issues with AltItem alerts.

    Thanks Menio:)

    Question:

I added Mind Blast (by spell ID) and for some reason, I cannot get it to track when it comes off cooldown.  Am I doing something wrong?

    Thanks:)

  • #1299

The addon was mostly designed to warn the user of spell procs or spells that only become active after a certain event happens. Meaning that since there is no combat log event for Mind Blast coming off cooldown, it cannot be tracked by this addon.

I used Ghostpulse for a while and if I may, I'd reccomend the addon "Tellmewhen" as a replacement, I hear it's fairly customizable, but it may lack the simplicity you like about EventAlert.

This is exactly what I have been looking for.  I think there used to be an addon named "Ghost Pulse" or something like that.  Simplicity here is key and you have succeeded, thank you so much!

The only thing stopping me from using this add-on is that I can’t seem to move the alert frame, it's smack in the middle of my screen. Is this a bug or is that how it is? Unchecking the lock alert frame doesn’t seem to do anything.

  • #1296

You have to start by unlocking the frames, then displaying the dummy frames with /ea showframe, /ea showtest or by going to the game's "Interface" menu, then to the "AddOns" tab, clicking the "+" next to "EventAlert" and then clicking on the "Show/Hide Test Alert Icons" buttons. (note, you have to drag the leftmost one to position the frames, iirc)

If that doesn't work, let me know!

No sorry, that reply ended up the wrong place  ;)

  • #1302

Hmmm, I'll take a look at it then, I didn't know that it would cause issue with frame moving! :S Have you noticed a reliable way to reproduce the issue you are talking about, Floppydawg?

    And thanks for the report!

I love this addon and I'm glad you took it over, however I have a question, for some reason every setting in my interface is reset whenever I update this addon. I'm updating it through curse if that's important.

  • #1300

    Hello!

I just tried to find the issue by installing it from the curse client (v. 5.1.1) and I did not run into the issue of my UI resetting this time. I'm unsure if it was just good luck or if the problem only occured in 5.1.0, could you let me know what happens/happened when you update(d) to 5.1.1?

  • #1304

I think this is related to the:
    InterfaceOptionsFrame_OpenToCategory(EA_About_Panel);

I donno why, but whenever this is called for me as well, my UI goes a bit funny.

    Hi,

Any chance to add Shadow Word: Death when its ready?.

  • #1289

Ever since the pre-MOP patch came out, it stopped working.  To be exact, it stopped giving me alerts on my screen as icons.  Now, the options are all there and appear to be functional for the most part.  I uninstalled the addon and reinstalled it.  I am still not able to get it to give me alerts.  Also, when I enable it, it makes me lag so badly that I usually disconnect from the game.  It usually happens with a little combat.  PLEASE HELP, I love this addon!

  • #1291

Sounds like the problem I covered in the description, here:

"I'll start with an important note: If you used EventAlert before in your current WoW folder, you will need to delete the EventAlert.lua and EventAlert.lua.bak files located at:
\World of Warcraft\WTF\Account\ACCOUNTNAME\SavedVariables for this addon to work.
    "

If that does not fix it, send me a lua error log!

When i build up 2 stacks of the Arcane Missile proc and then spend one, the icon goes away (even tho i have 1 charge of AM left).
