About EventAlert

The addon will notify you in the middle of your screen with an icon, name of the spell that has procced, the time left on the proc and will make a subtle sound. EventAlert is also able to handle more than one proc at a time (this option was not available in previous versions).

I am not fond of addons that have very complicated installation and setups. The mod should work on install without any config, but if you wish to change any options use the following command: /ea options
To see a more detailed list of what options are avaiable to the mod, just check out the screenshot of the options pane.

Quick Backstory: I created this addon as a test for myself as my first "from the ground up" addon. Most of my coding in WoW LUA was taking other addons and just fixing them so they work from minor bugs or whatnot.

Anyhow, I needed a mod that was lightweight and did only what I wanted it to do, and that was warn me when one of my spells or talents procced something I needed. Thus, EventAlert was born. There are likely to be bugs, explosions and not so good things that may come from this mod. I'm sorry in advance! If you find a bug, please let me know so I can fix it.

Also, if anyone finds a spell/talent/etc that they want watched, please let me know and I will add it!

Greetings everyone, my name is Menio and I will be taking over the maintenance of this addon from CurtisTheGreat, the original author!

I'll start with an important note: If you used EventAlert before in your current WoW folder, you will need to delete the EventAlert.lua and EventAlert.lua.bak files located at:
\World of Warcraft\WTF\Account\ACCOUNTNAME\SavedVariables for this addon to work.

Above is CurtisTheGreat's original description, with updated class abilities.

5.2.1
Bugfix: Fixed timers for alerts with more than 30 seconds remaining.
Bugfix: Attempting to fix an ongoing issues with AltItem alerts.

Answering here for both reports about issues with priests.

I'll look into it, my guess would be a spell that was removed from the game but is still tracked in the priest class file.

    Thanks for the report!

Edit: Found it, it's "Shadow Word: Insanity" in "priest.lua". I should have removed it before since it was never tracked properly. xD I'll push a fix tomorrow, but if you want it to work again you can just delete the line of code for this spell in the "priest.lua" file and it should work just fine. I'll look into implementing a failsafe that rewrites the files by itself if one of the spells in them is deprecated.

EventAlert is mostly meant to track spells that are the result of a "proc", so it is aimed towards things that won't happen all the time, although I've been working to add options to track just about any buffs and debuffs - as long as they are on the player. :S

With the way things are tracked right now, the big check is that the spell is on the 'player' unit, therefore ennemy debuffs cannot be tracked without completely changing the purpose of the addon, unfortunately. Since I mostly picked up the maintenance part only, I wouldn't want to drastically change the original vision of the author, especially when other addons do a really good job of having in-depth configuration for all those things.

EventAlert is more about being easy to just download, start up the game and play with the addon working; without having to spend a significant amount of time tweaking the options.

If you're looking for an addon to track debuff stacks or other things that are not the result of an event being fired in game, I would recommend an addon like DebuffFilter or TellMeWhen. They take a bit more work to setup which can be off-putting, but they are very good at what they do!

Hey there i play a warrior and i cannot seem to find an addon that will make an alert for a rage dump. Like say if you break 80 rage BANG dump your rage man :D. If that could happen it would be greatly apreciated

  • #1417

Sadly it's not really possible with the way the addon tracks events. Icons appear when an event is fired and caught by the addon, since there is no event fired when rage reaches 80, it would have to be added in a way that wouldn't allow users to tweak the settings for it. :S

I learned the Spell ID for green fire Molten Core is: 140074 or 140075

Use this in the Custom Alert tab and insert one of those ID's.  Problem solved.

Sorry had to use Weak Auras to get the Spell ID for this.  Dont hate me. =)

  • #1414

Hello, was hoping you could help me with a problem with Event Alert.

I play a warlock.  After completing the green fire quest and killing Kanrethad, It seems the alert for Molten Core procs no longer work while in demonology.  I've tried playing with everything and reinstalling Event Alert, but to no avail.

All alerts still work in Destruction.

I'm not receiving any strange popups or windows.  Just failure to Alert on Molten Core.

    Thank you

There seems to be some taint issue with EventAlert. I'm always getting this one, but I don't join BGs. I think it startet with version 5.1.7 or 5.1.8

10x [ADDON_ACTION_BLOCKED] AddOn "EventAlert" hat versucht die geschützte Funktion "CompactRaidFrame1:Show()" aufzurufen.
    !BugGrabber-r188\BugGrabber.lua:587: in function <!BugGrabber\BugGrabber.lua:587>

    FrameXML\CompactUnitFrame.lua:240: in function "CompactUnitFrame_UpdateAll"
    FrameXML\CompactUnitFrame.lua:97: in function <FrameXML\CompactUnitFrame.lua:44>

    Locals:

  • #1413

If it's the one I'm thinking about, it's a taint issue that affects any addon with a drop down menu with four items or more that is loaded before the Blizzard raid frames. I'm not really sure how to go about fixing it and still allowing custom alerts to be listed as they are added, but when I have some time to work in the menus I'll try to figure out an alternative.

    Thanks for the report!

Hmm that's strange. EventAlert doesn't call the function "JoinBattlefield()" at all... Could you try disabling every addon other than EventAlert and trying to reproduce the issue?

  • #1411

Actually I just found out that my other character now has that same error again.. Can't queue for random bgs when eventalert is on :(

  • #1410

If you have any druid specific addons, they may not load when you play on other classes, I'd look at addons with a specific druid focus for the culprit, especially one that may track things in PvP specifically or interact with the PvP interface in any way.

  • #1409

The thing is, I only have this error on my druid, my warrior and hunter have no problem at all. They all use the same set of addons. So weird...
