About Fishing Buddy

Fishing Buddy
-------------

A fishing addon that keeps track of the fish you catch and helps manage your fishing gear.

Features:
- Double-click fishing
- Supports the new WoW "fish without a pole" feature
- Bring out your fishing pets! Drink heavily!
- 'Fish Watcher' lets you see the fish you've caught here before (or the fish that you've caught in the current session)
- Display your current skill level and the time since you started fishing
- Choose your fishing outfit and change into it easily
- Support for automatically adding a lure to your fishing pole
- Support for tracking 'cycle fish' such as the Nightfin Snapper so you know when to go looking for them

Example commands:
/fishingbuddy or /fb
toggle the display of the Fishing Buddy window
/fb help
print the list of Fishing Buddy commands
/fb switch
wear your chosen fishing outfit, or change back

Silly stuff:
In addition to displaying the fishing bonus for your fishing outfit, it also displays your 'style points' as inferred from Draznar's Fishing FAQ (http://wow.toshimo.com/viewtopic.php?t=272).

3. If your unzip program doesn't let you specify the destination, then find your WoW folder (where it was installed) and drag the 'FishingBuddy' folder into the 'Interface/AddOns' folder.

Something strange going on.   FB is somehow messing up my UI.  When I stop fishing and rearm my toons, the status window remains "on" and right clicking does nothing with regard to movement.  If I use the command M combo on my Mac and get the widow to shrink, WoW now evidently is resetting the UI and things get back to normal when I grow the window back; i.e. FB appears to be gone.  However, even after this reset, I sometimes can not use right click to move. To get consistant game play, I have to either turn FB off in addons window or delete the addon.

  • #2710

Ah. Yes -- ckicj-to-move is turned off while "fishing is active". Since you're using the fishing without a pole feature, click-to-move might be okay to leave on.

    I will have to experiment.

Which version are you using? The beta has some improvements to the watcher that hopefully fix those issues. If you are using the beta, could you file a ticket? :-)

    Thanks,

    Fishing Buddy v1.4b
    • Get my act together with respect to watch window location (thanks Grizzly_UK!)

Thanks to Grizzly_UK's excellent debugging (and sheer sticktoitiveness -- he gets *another* entry in the about box!), I was able to find my glaring error in the watcher location code. Everything should be better now, and no one else should have to reset all their watcher windows on every toon.

The new version will be available once it runs the gauntlet.

  • #2703

Excellent is all I can say really! So far I've tested with 22 characters and there's been no sign of a problem with any of them!

I didn't even know I'd got one entry in the about box, so finding out I've just been awarded a second is just brilliant, thank you very much for that! :)

After having to reset the watcher on all 41 of my characters after updating to 1.4 I really wasn't expecting any problems when I updated to 1.4a, sadly I couldn't have been more wrong! :(

Somehow the watcher reset itself to the position it was in prior to updating to 1.4 (even though I'd had to reset the watcher to get it back followed by moving it to the side of my screen when I updated to 1.4) but I figured that was ok, I could live with that. But it didn't end with that, after I'd logged in several characters to do the fishing and cooking dailies in the cities I logged back in with a character to go to Pandaria and do the Anglers dailies. Went to Kun-Lai to fish for the Spinefish Alpha, clicked on FB to equip my gear and the watcher reset itself to the centre of my screen! So I moved it back to the side of the screen and carried on, finished up with that character and logged off. Logged in the next character and the same thing happened, as soon as I clicked on FB to equip my fishing gear the watcher was reset to the centre of my screen! Only this time, when I tried to move the watcher to the side of my screen it stuck to my cursor resulting in an inability to click on anything else, couldn't even click on the "Logout" button! I couldn't figure out how to fix that so I resorted to using Task Manager to shut down WoW! :(

Restarted WoW and logged back onto that character, fortunately the watcher was sitting in the centre of my screen, so I tried to move it again, same thing happened again, it stuck to my cursor! This time though I called up the FB help and tried a couple of commands, eventually the "/fb fishing stop" command "unlocked" the watcher from my cursor. At that point I simply logged out and exited the game as the servers were about to shut down for maintenance (EU player).

I then checked the characters FishingBuddy.lua file (the one in the characters SavedVariables folder) and compared it to others. The character who'd had the watcher reset in Kun-Lai had a second "WatcherLocation" entry which was different to the original one under the "Settings" and a "Version" line. For all the characters that I hadn't logged in they were all missing the second "WatcherLocation" entry and the "Version" line, whereas those I had logged in (but hadn't changed the watcher) just had the second "WatcherLocation" entry but without the "X" and "Y" lines and the "Version" line. I've now edited all my characters FishingBuddy.lua file and added those settings as well as changing the first "WatcherLocation" entry under "Settings" to match the second one. Unfortunately I can't test anything now as the servers are down for maintenance so I'll have to wait until they're back up in about 7 hours. :(

I really hope I don't have any more problems with FB, I'm starting to wish I'd never updated to 1.4 in the first place because before that it was all working fine! :(

  • #2695

Darn it, that shouldn't be happening. I will investigate immediately. I am so sorry!

  • #2702

    The new version will:

    1. Transform the old values into the new format
    2. Remove the "old" entry

So everything should be nice and clean (and less confusing) now!
