About Fishing Buddy

Fishing Buddy
-------------

A fishing addon that keeps track of the fish you catch and helps manage your fishing gear.

Features:
- Double-click fishing
- Supports the new WoW "fish without a pole" feature
- Bring out your fishing pets! Drink heavily!
- 'Fish Watcher' lets you see the fish you've caught here before (or the fish that you've caught in the current session)
- Display your current skill level and the time since you started fishing
- Choose your fishing outfit and change into it easily
- Support for automatically adding a lure to your fishing pole
- Support for tracking 'cycle fish' such as the Nightfin Snapper so you know when to go looking for them

Example commands:
/fishingbuddy or /fb
toggle the display of the Fishing Buddy window
/fb help
print the list of Fishing Buddy commands
/fb switch
wear your chosen fishing outfit, or change back

Silly stuff:
In addition to displaying the fishing bonus for your fishing outfit, it also displays your 'style points' as inferred from Draznar's Fishing FAQ (http://wow.toshimo.com/viewtopic.php?t=272).

Fishing Buddy Plugins:
Outfit Manager - http://www.curse.com/addons/wow/fboutfit

Unable to use easy cast without a modifier when I don't have a pole equipped, kinda defeats the purpose.

  • #2871

With v1.4o I still have the problem with helm display that I've posted about previously. As a reminder (and to save digging back to find my previous posts about this) I'll explain again.

I have the main "Show Helm" option disabled and FB's OutfitDisplay overrides that to display the Fishing Hat when I equip my fishing outfit, but now, every time I un-equip my fishing outfit the game's Show Helm option is enabled and I have to open the game options and disable it. This happens on every character regardless of whether they actually have a Fishing Hat for FB to equip. For those characters FB still removes their helm when I click to equip their fishing gear and will then re-equip their helm when I click again to un-equip their fishing gear. It's just that FB is no longer disabling the main "Show Helm" option when un-equipping fishing gear as it used to!

So, with the main "Show Helm" option disabled FB will correctly enable that option to display the Fishing Hat when equiping fishing gear but FB fails to disable the option when you un-equip fishing gear.

I know others have posted about this, along with reporting the same problem with the "Show Cloak" option. Seeing as this is the third time I've posted about this problem I'm wondering if it would it be better to create a ticket for this? I'm not complaining or anything, just that I understand there's a lot of things to be dealt with at the moment so maybe creating a ticket would be easier.

I have a fix for this (thanks to many wonderful users) that I am now testing -- working on getting the automatic funny hat and Ephemeral Pole handing working better, and then it will be out!

  • #2868

I installed FishingBuddy and found a conflict with the Addon named "Bagnon".

Bagnon has a sort feature for the bank and bags.

When FishingBuddy is active it causes the sort to freeze the screen twice each time the bags or bank is sorted.

I don't know what is causing it, only know it stops when I disable FB.

  • #2870

I'm working on that -- FB listens for some of the ITEM_* events so that it can tell when you equip a fishing poloe. I haven't found an event or anything that will let me turn it off while Blizz is doing the shuffling. I might be able to hook into Bagnon and ignore it for that (I will look).

  • #2867

can a button be added to never use anything except worms?

i prefer to fish with 1100+ fishing at alll times when possible, and throwing away baubles and hooks can get tedious.

    thank you

  • #2869

I will put it on the list of things to add. Although El's Anglin's analysis shows that anything over 950 is pretty much wasted...

    Fishing Buddy v1.4q
    • Now that the library is right, make sure we check it correctly for non-English clients
Okay, I've done some more testing on non-English clients, but obviously I need to find a better method. This should fix the invalid reference issue since I'm now actually using the base zone information that I fixed in the last update.
  • #2864

Same error as Exzentrik, and I guess he has a non english client too.

The error occurs in the Draenot bait function at

                    return not seascorpion[zone][subzone];

I guess this is due to the subzone not being translated, but I have not debugged yet.

  • #2865

I will add more error checking. Sigh -- I really wish Blizz would let developers run more non-English clients.

EDIT: Found the issue, new version coming out shortly.

HI! Just updated to v1.4p and every time I try to fish by double-clicking the right mouse button,  I get this LUA-Error. The Error does NOT occur when I manually use the draenor-baits before fishing.

    *EDIT*

Correction: The Error does NOT occur, as long as I don't have the fitting draenor bait in my inventory. As soon as I fish a new bait for the area I'm in, the Error occurs again.

    Fishing Buddy v1.4p
    • Fix bug in fishing library that was messing up non-english zone lookups

Fix overzealous attempt to tell the difference between duplicate zone names in the new world. Draenor bait checks should be working in non-English clients (and now my esMX knowledge is slightly, very slightly, improved :-)

  • #2860

1.4o does not work for me in the german client in regard of th edraenor baits. A bit of debugging shows that FishLib:GetBaseZone is actually not translating the zone names back to english.

  • #2861

Darn it. Okay, I will play with it until I get it to work. Good thing I'm just as clueless in Spanish. :-)

  • #2858

I know you are working on implementing the musical hat dance, but I was wondering about a similar algorithm for poles? I got an Ephemeral Fishing Pole but didn't read the fine print so I got rid of my +30 pole. Now the Ephemeral Fishing Pole has vanished and I'm getting a replacement, but if I get another EFP, I'd like to use that while I have it and revert to the +30 when it expires.

Combine that with the new poles that have a 10 minute buff with a 20 minute cooldown and it looks like a FB musical pole dance will be needed to complement the musical hat dance!
