About Fishing Buddy

Fishing Buddy
-------------

A fishing addon that keeps track of the fish you catch and helps manage your fishing gear.

Features:
- Double-click fishing
- Supports the new WoW "fish without a pole" feature
- Bring out your fishing pets! Drink heavily!
- 'Fish Watcher' lets you see the fish you've caught here before (or the fish that you've caught in the current session)
- Display your current skill level and the time since you started fishing
- Choose your fishing outfit and change into it easily
- Support for automatically adding a lure to your fishing pole
- Support for tracking 'cycle fish' such as the Nightfin Snapper so you know when to go looking for them

Example commands:
/fishingbuddy or /fb
toggle the display of the Fishing Buddy window
/fb help
print the list of Fishing Buddy commands
/fb switch
wear your chosen fishing outfit, or change back

Silly stuff:
In addition to displaying the fishing bonus for your fishing outfit, it also displays your 'style points' as inferred from Draznar's Fishing FAQ (http://wow.toshimo.com/viewtopic.php?t=272).

Fishing Buddy Plugins:

    Fishing Buddy's old display style

I wasn't playing WoW for a while, and decided to come back with the MoP expansion.  I've installed the latest Fishing Buddy addon using the Curse client, and I found that the FB interface has changed significantly since I last used it in Cataclysm.  Most notably, the FB display is in its own opaque window now, and not in a transparent-background text frame (similar to Blizzard's Objectives pane), as it used to be.  Also, I can't seem to get it to display the counts of fish in an area, only percentages, and if I leave the window open, the list is not refreshed with each cast, as it used to be with the old transparent text frame.

All in all, this newer version of the FB addon seems a lot less useful than the one I loved and constantly played with a little over a year ago, and I'm wondering if I'm just missing some configuration options for FB that will restore this missing functionality, or if there are technical reasons why the author decided to move away from the original functionality?

I'm not sure what you're seeing, but the fish watcher window should still be "invisible" until you hover over it for a while. It should still do counts, but I will look at it (I may have broken something and not noticed :-)

If you set the option to use a modifier key, you can fish without a pole with a double-click-with-modifier and the window will come up while you fish (it hangs around for 30 seconds after you stop fishing in case you recast).

I am having the same problem.  Is there a setting that needs to be changed?  I really miss not seeing it the way it used to be.

Thanks for any help on this.

Beth (aka Angelinica and many others, LOL)

No, it was my mistake.  Seems my character lost some gear, including my +20 fishing pole and +5 hat with the +75 lure.  I assumed these were still being equipped, but apparently, now we can fish without a fishing pole at all?  Once I realized this, bought a new pole, and equipped it, the Watch window appeared, as if by magic.  Seems like it does not appear at all if no pole is equipped, at least wih the FB config settings I have selected.

    Fishing Buddy 1.2a

    - New French translation (thanks Matisk!)
    - Updated Traditional Chinese translation (thanks titanium0107!)
    - New German translation (thanks DirtyHarryGermany!)
    - Add Nat's Hat (duh)
    - Updated the About box to thank all the translators! (I always do, calling it out :-)

First: Great Addon! Helped me alot!

In Version 1.2, if I activated the option for automatically adding a lure to my fishing pole, the Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat was used automatically to attach a lure. But for some reason, Fishing buddy doesn't use Nat's Hat, even though it would attach a lure with +150.

    *EDIT*

I forgot: It doesn't work even if I activate the "Lure of last resort" option. And if I don't carry any other lures, it doesn't use Nats Hat too.

Updated the table -- I was getting it added, but I don't have the hat yet, so I couldn't test it :-)

There used to be a mod that would display the minimum fishing level for a zone when you moused over the zone on the map.  Does this do it, or are you familiar with that one?

  • #2276

Hmm, I don't have that one. I'll add it to my list of features :-)

My fault, I did some code cleanup and broke backward compatibility. There are new versions of all of the supporting FB plugins to go along with the new version.
