About Fishing Buddy

Fishing Buddy
-------------

A fishing addon that keeps track of the fish you catch and helps manage your fishing gear.

Features:
- Double-click fishing
- Supports the new WoW "fish without a pole" feature
- Bring out your fishing pets! Drink heavily!
- 'Fish Watcher' lets you see the fish you've caught here before (or the fish that you've caught in the current session)
- Display your current skill level and the time since you started fishing
- Choose your fishing outfit and change into it easily
- Support for automatically adding a lure to your fishing pole

Example commands:
/fishingbuddy or /fb

/fb help
print the list of Fishing Buddy commands
/fb switch
wear your chosen fishing outfit, or change back

Silly stuff:
In addition to displaying the fishing bonus for your fishing outfit, it also displays your 'style points' as inferred from Draznar's Fishing FAQ (http://wow.toshimo.com/viewtopic.php?t=272).

    I have a similar problem. The ui shows up for me, but most of the settings don't save. One thing I've done is change the settings on one of the side tabs of the ui, change some more on another, then go back to the previous tab. Most of the stuff goes back to the way it was before I did anything.

    Right now, it's working fine for toons I had it configured before the expansion, but for my pandaren (who oviously I could only create once MoP came out) I've been having problems. The fishing outfit is one of the rare settings that saves. I haven't gotten the autoloot function to work for my pandaren. He can fish (had to get a fishingpole in order to switch outfits).

    Edit: I'm going to display the difference between the fishingbuddy.lua under savedvariables for a couple of my characters. You can find yours in the file \World of Warcraft\WTF\Account\ACCOUNTNAME\SERVERNAME\CHARNAME\SavedVariables folder per character.

    Here's what it looks like for my pandaren (newest toon, most settings don't save):

    FishingBuddy_Player = {
        ["MinimapData"] = {
            ["hide"] = false,
        },
        ["Settings"] = {
            ["TotalTimeFishing"] = 165.9400000000005,
            ["ResetWatcher"] = 1,
            ["MinimapClickToSwitch"] = 1,
            ["OutfitManager"] = "OutfitDisplayFrame",
            ["TurnOnSound"] = 1,
            ["EnhanceFishingSounds"] = 1,
            ["BackgroundSounds"] = 1,
            ["EnhancePools"] = 1,
        },
        ["WasWearing"] = {
        },
    }

    Now, this is what it looks like for my main character (haven't tried changing FB settings on him since it's configured the way I like and has been working fine for him):

    ishingBuddy_Player = {
        ["MinimapData"] = {
            ["hide"] = false,
        },
        ["Settings"] = {
            ["ResetWatcher"] = 1,
            ["MinimapClickToSwitch"] = 1,
            ["FishingBuddy"] = 0,
            ["OutfitManager"] = "OutfitDisplayFrame",
            ["EasyCast"] = 1,
            ["BackgroundSounds"] = 1,
            ["GreatAndSmall"] = 0,
            ["TooltipInfo"] = 1,
            ["TotalTimeFishing"] = 53380.65600000003,
            ["WatchFishies"] = 0,
            ["WatchCurrentZone"] = 1,
            ["MountedCast"] = 1,
            ["WatcherLocation"] = {
                ["y"] = -19.94838705505447,
                ["x"] = 287.3189784727699,
            },
            ["EnhanceFishingSounds"] = 1,
            ["AutoLoot"] = 1,
            ["AlwaysLure"] = 1,
            ["MinimapButtonPosition"] = -25.11471897238729,
            ["EasyLures"] = 1,
            ["CaughtSoFar"] = 1558,
            ["FishingPetBuddies"] = -1,
        },
        ["WasWearing"] = {
        },
        ["FishingPetBuddies"] = {
        },
    }

    As you can hopefully see, there are more settings configured on my main than my pandaren (almost 2x as many). For example, there's no AutoLoot setting on my pandaren while there's one on my main.

     Update:

    I copied the settings that were missing from the first lua file from the 2nd lua file listed and fishingbuddy is now working fine on my pandaren (so far).

    Thanks for the report, I will try and figure out what's going on!

    I'm having a problem on one of my toons using the Argent Tournament outfit in Outfitter when FB changes the sound to fishing setup for FB. I have to jack the sound down or disable FB to get around this issue. I've only done the tourney dailies on 2 toons and it works correctly on one and the other is cranking the sound to max.

    Hi.

    In a module FishingGearManager.lua variable _ still can be leaked into global namespace, causing infamous Glyph UI glitch. Until it gets fixed in next patch from Blizzard's side it's better to fix it.

    Here's a patch:

  • #2129

    1.1a should fix this -- thanks for the report!

  • #2123

    Well, funny enough... no matter what I do, I stoped to see minimap icon :-( Any ideas?

  • #2126

    To temporary fix this you can edit your WTF-File.

    1.) Close your Game-Client.
    2.) Navigte to your Warcraft-Folder and the to the SavedVariables of your Char.

    Example: x:\World of Warcraft\WTF\Account\ACCOUNTNAME\SERVERNAME\CHARNAME\SavedVariables

    3.) Edit the FishingBuddy.lua:

    ["MinimapData"] = {
        ["hide"] = false,     --->    This must be ["hide"] = true,

    4. Save it and start your Game-Client again :)

    Have fun and greeting from Germany. Steve.

  • #2128

    Thanks! The switch to more standard minimap button handling (LibDBIcon vs. my six year old custom code) has left a few holes. I am working on it!

    Hi. First of all thanks for the great addon.

    Regards

  • #2122

  • #2120

    Hi.   Longtime user of FB here.  (Thank you for creating and maintaining it!)

    I'm on version 1.0.9f.

    I'm seeing the Fish Watcher component of FB "double count" my catches when showing me how many fish I've caught versus expected avg % of catches needed to reach the next skillpoint.    So each fish I catch is counting as two catches in the tracker...meaning on average it thinks I'm taking twice as many catches as needed to reach the next point.  So I'm routinely, for example, sitting at 12/~6, or 16/~8, etc.

    Also I'm observing that the watcher rolls "2 fish" from the catch that put me up to my current skill level into the running count of catches needed for the next catch.

    Is this particular to me or anyone seeing this as well?   It probably started 3-4 updates ago...  Definitely not new to this version.

  • #2130

    Yes, I am trying to track that down. It's unclear whether I will continue to support the "aproximate catches to level" part though, since it's much more random now.

    Thanks!

    Version 1.1 Beta 2

    Version 1.1 Beta 2
    - Italian translation, thanks Impaler (and bER92)!
    - Add support for "Fish without a pole" feature. Cast when any fishing gear is worn or
    a modifier key is held down while right-clicking

    Some preliminary support for "fish without a pole equipped" and hopefully better behavior when in combat.

    Should be available soon under "Other Downloads".

    Easy cast is not working on my main even with all other add-ons disabled. Works on other toons. Not getting any error codes.

    Seeing an occasional error related to FB:

    ID: 1
    Error occured in: Global
    Count: 1
    Message: ..\AddOns\FishingBuddy\FishingFluff.lua line 75:

    FishingBuddy\FishingBuddy.lua:478
    FishingBuddy\FishingBuddy.lua:490:
    FishingBuddy\FishingBuddy.lua:489
    Locals:

    Given the name of the thing that's causing the error (Add all Pet Types Filter), I wonder if it has something to do with the number of pets I have?  On combining things to account-wide with 5.0.4, I ended up with nearly 700 pets, and I haven't gone through the list to clean up / cage / release the many duplicates.  If that's likely the cause, then feel free to disregard, as I'll be going through the list and caging/selling some duplicate pets and releasing the rest come next Tuesday-ish.
