About Fish Warden

Fish Warden is designed to automatically grab the fish you want, without wasting bag space on junk as with the in-game auto loot. Think of it as a selective auto loot for fishing.

Feedback

If you have any issues or suggestions, please submit a ticket on www.wowace.com/addons/fishwarden, or if you really prefer you can leave a comment on the curse.com project page. Tickets are much easier to track, and are much more likely to be seen by me. If you have any suggestions for new filters, please include as much information as possible - what fish should be included, what is the reason for the filter, etc..

Slash Commands

  • Open the Fish Warden configuration
    • /fishwarden
    • /fward

Configuration

Notes:

  • Fish Warden ONLY auto loots fishing loot. Fish Warden ignores and will not auto loot any loot that was not obtained by fishing.
  • Any fish that Fish Warden does NOT auto loot will remain in the loot window. You may manually loot the leftovers, or just close the loot window. See the "Automatically release unwanted fish." option in the "Main Page" section for an alternate behavior.
  • All of the filters use "OR" logic. That is to say that if a certain fish meets the requirements of ANY of the selected filters, it will be auto looted.
  • All configuration options are stored per character.

Main Page

  • Enable - Enables/Disables Fish Warden's selective auto looting. Make sure you also select filters for the fish you want to keep.
  • Automatically release unwanted fish.
    • After each catch there will be a summary in the chat window of which fish were kept, and which were released. If you are trying for a specific set of fish, consider using the Custom filter.
    • CAREFUL This option automatically discards items that don't fit into any selected keep filter. Choose your filters carefully when using this option to prevent potential rare losses.
    • Fish Warden will NOT automatically close the loot window if it failed to loot an item for any reason. This should protect against item loss in case of an error and during times of high latency.
  • Advanced Options - Use Verbose Mode - Prints when other addons make changes to Fish Warden via the API.

Achievements

  • Each achievement listed on this page is an achievement that requires you to obtain items via fishing.
    • Fish Warden will only auto loot the fish that you still need for each selected achievement. In other words, it won't auto loot the same gold coin twice.
    • Completed achievements are highlighted with green text.

Quality

  • Each item quality is listed on this page. Selecting these filters will enable auto looting of ALL items of that quality.
    • I understand there are no fishable items of certain qualities, like heirloom; however, the option is there for the future.

Miscellaneous

  • Quest Item - Any item that is for a quest will be auto looted.
  • Item Level >= ___ - Automatically grab any fish whose item level is at least this value.
  • Sell Price >= __g__s__c - Automatically grab any fish that can be sold to a vendor for at least this value.
  • Fish Feast - Any fish required to make a Fish Feast will be auto looted.
  • Seafood Magnifique Feast - Similar to Fish Feast.
  • Crates and Clams - Any item that can be opened for more loot. See: www.elsanglin.com/fish/openable_fish.html
  • Equippable Items - Any item that can be equipped. See: www.elsanglin.com/fish/equipped_fish.html
  • Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza - Any of the four fish available during this tournament will be auto looted: Speckled Tastyfish, Brownell's Blue Striped Racer, Dezian Queenfish and Keefer's Angelfish.
  • Kalu'ak Fishing Derby - Blacktip Shark will be auto looted

Custom

  • Enable - Enables/Disables the custom filter
  • Type in a custom filter of multiple item names and/or item id numbers. Separate each with a colon (:) or a new line. Comment out lines with the pound sign (#).
    • While typing into the filter, you can shift click items from your inventory and item links from the chat window to add that item to the filter.
    • You may also access your trade skills and shift click the reagent icons to add them to the filter.
    • Shift clicked items will go on a new line as the item id number, with the name of the item commented out for your reference.
    • Item names are matched based on a partial search - i.e. typing "Cuttle" will allow auto looting "Moonglow Cuttlefish"
    • Any number is interpreted as an item id number, item numbers are matched on an exact basis.
    • You can find item id numbers by looking at the Wowhead urls for each item. Look for "item=###" but only type the ### into the filter text.
    • You can also blacklist an item by preceding its entry with a hyphen (-) - i.e. typing "-Cuttle" will block auto looking "Moonglow Cuttlefish"
      • Any blacklisted fish will not be looted by Fish Warden, even if it matches some other selected filter.

Custom-Help

  • This page just describes the advanced syntax of the Custom filter.

API (v4.0.3.15)

A new API feature for Fish Warden is in development. It is designed for other addon authors to be able to cleanly interact with Fish Warden. If you have ideas for new API functions, submit a ticket.

The API is documented in "api.txt" and implemented in "api.lua"

when i first downloaded fish warden it worked great but now i find tht it says that fish warden passed on a fish but the loot window is still open i talked to some of my other guildy's and they use it to they are having the same problem
  • #24
okay first of all, this is a REAL good idea of an addon and everything I say is for you to improve.
Second, this is a piece of shit addon, I have tried setting it upp now for about 1 hour, and I have even clicked off EVERYTHING except for the Enable, Auto release unwanted fish and the Enable custom filter.
I have also blacklisted all the fish I do not wish to catch and still it gets fcking caught! It even says in my chatlog: Fish Warden passed on: Raw Longjaw Whisker Catfish and it gets fcking caught! damn this infuriating addon...
Please fix this as it would be the best addon in my library of addons but as it is now it doesnt work, I could use Karnis crap filter but that one filters regular loot also...
  • #25
I just looked at the code for Fish Warden again. Once the loot window opens, it has two code execution paths. It either attempts to loot an item OR it marks it as ignored and a separate function takes care of displaying "Fish Warden passed on: ..."

Basically, Fish Warden CAN'T both say it ignored an item and loot it too. You either have another addon that's taking the loot or you're auto-looting.
  • #29
functionality is still broken at looting window since patch 4.2.2.
  • #26
not sure if this was due to patch 4.2.2 (almost sure after 4.2 Fish Warden was still fully functional) i have a similar situation to Sebbofc i use the filters and all... but wile fishing i get the "Fish Warden passed on: XYZ..." but loot window remains open... only get's closed when i get some fish allowed by the filter (like a quest item... etc)

    tks in advanced
  • #28
Ditto. This is with no addons and blizz auto-loot turned off.
  • #19
Addons menu, Fish Warden is expanded so you can see the sub-menus. The other is that it randomly rechecks all the looting options. Neither is a deal breaker. Just observations. Keep up the great work. :)
  • #20
Addons menu, unless Fish Warden happens to be selected already. This is so that all users can find the sub-menus.

The second issue however should not be occurring. As soon as you actuate a checkbox it changes the setting in memory. However, the settings aren't saved to disk until WoW is closed properly (without crashing) - this is due to how WoW saves the variables. I'm not sure why they appear to be reverting. Can you go into more detail on how you reproduce the bug?

In 4.2, this add-on doesn't seem to work. I have no other looting add-ons, I don't have auto-loot on, and I even tried to use the custom filter. I'm having the same issue as the others, and even though the add-on says it's passing on stuff, the loot window stays open.

I've tried everything, even restarting WoW, nothing helps. Don't bother downloading. Going to try to find a different loot filter.

Addons for the first time of the day, and then every time after that. The un-checked boxes are the same deal. Completely random. And I have since had a crash-free shutdown with the boxes properly checked. Sorry I can't be of more assistance. But like I said, neither of these are deal breakers. Still a great addon. :)
  • #22
Scratch the boxes being checked/unchecked. I was mistaken. It's just the menu issue. I apologize.
  • #23
Excellent. Good to hear. I no longer have an active account for the time being; but I will try to fix the menu issue once I reactivate it. It's probably a change they made in a recent patch that Fish Warden isn't 100% compatible with.
  • #16
It has come to my attention that a change in patch 4.6 may have broken the Quest Item filter. I will investigate this right now, and if I have enough time before work I'll push a fix today.
  • #17
    Fixed in v4.0.6.19
  • #11
"Custom" doesn't seem to be working after the latest update. It passes on everything I've fished so far. Turning on any of the other filters just makes it loot everything.

Also, there should be a filter for "Cataclysm buff food", meaning it should loot all the Cata fish aside from Murglesnout and Sharptooth, as they're not really used for anything important.

Or just add another list of filters for Cataclysm fish, with a checkbox for each one. That would be even more useful.
