About FlareUP

FlareUP

... is yet another addon for using the new World Markers (raid flares)
as a party leader, raid leader or officer without going through the compact raid manager.

So why another one?

  • It's a different implementation that doesn't rely on the usual
    /click CompactRaidFrameManagerDisplayFrameLeaderOptionsRaidWorldMarkerButton
    /click DropDownListXButtonX

macros every other world marker addon is using.
  • I prefer the small button that I can drag to any side of the screen as opposed to a bar.
  • It has marker timers.
  • new in v1.33: world marker key-binds in Game Menu.

Alright... are you going to add...

-button customization
-sharedmedia support
-sounds and libsink announce for expiring markers
-bars instead of text timers
-dancing hippos
-...?

Probably not, it suits me fine as it is. :D
Hope you find it useful as well.

Configuration

/flareup pos
Show the button out of party for positioning. Flares will not work. Type it again to hide.
/flareup timers
Toggles timers on/off.

Known issues

  • Timers do not persist following a reload.
  • I've tried to make the timers smart but there is a small chance of "false" positives
depending what you do after you load a flare to the cursor and before you actually put it down.
(fx clicking an actionbutton instead of the "world" or clicking out of range)
v1.38-50300
  • .toc update, compatible with WoW 5.3 "Escalation"
v1.38-50200
  • Update group triggers.
  • .toc update, compatible with WoW 5.2.0
v1.37-50001
  • updated for WoW 5.0.5/MoP but I'm considering to retire this little addon :)
v1.36-40300
  • remove some debug code from the secure keybinds (no functional changes)
v1.35-40300
  • more improvements to marker timers
(mouse buttons 3 to 5 could confuse the addon, and /cwm 0 wasn't clearing timers properly)
  • attempt to fix the 'C stack overflow' error reported by Zidomo @wowi.
(can't reproduce it myself but I have an idea what might have been the issue)
v1.34-40300
  • bufix 4.3 enable/disable logic (was incorrectly enabling in raid when not RL/assistant)
  • world marker timer changes
    • timer shadow and anchoring.
    • timers count down again. Assumed time-out of 1hour (unverified!)
  • keybind menu changes (Esc -> Keybinds -> FlareUP)
v1.33-40300
  • update for raid manager frame changes
  • new feature: world marker key-binds
  • .toc update, compatible with Hour of Twilight (4.3)
  • not compatible with WoW 4.2 stay with v1.32 if patch is not yet applied in your region.
v1.32-40200
  • toc update, compatible with WoW 4.2
v1.32-40100
  • toc update, compatible with WoW 4.1
v1.32-40000
  • make sure we clear timers and stop updates when player leaves party/raid or loses leader/assist
    for a minimal performance gain.
v1.31-40000
  • world markers no longer expire in 5minutes, they last until cancelled.
Make the timers count up instead of count down.
v1.3-40000
  • WoW 4.0.6 api update (timers are now aware of single flare clear)
v1.1-40000
  • More aggressive detection of combat status for when reloading or logging in combat,
so we can avoid doing actions that might cause issues (haven't seen any but better safe than sorry).
v1.0-40000
  • Initial release
  • Mini, movable world marker button
  • Usable as a party leader, raid leader or assistant
  • Optional raid flare timers

To anyone using HideRaidFrame addon to hide the blizzard raidframe + container: do not check 'hard disable' in the settings. This will cause the complete frame to not be loaded, and  FlareUp wont have the button.

The button FlareUp is using comes from that frame, and won't be able to be accessed when the whole frame is not loaded.

Thanks to Dridzt for writing such clear code, wouldn't have gotten the idea without reading it.

So I just grabbed the latest version (v1.38-50200) and nothing happens when I type /flareup pos out of party.
No "button" appears. The command line responds when responds when I type  /flareup timers so I know the mod is loaded. Perhaps it's appearing behind a frame somewhere?

Nevermind, it was appearing behind my top Titan panel :-/

Any chance this will be updated for 5.0.4(MoP)?  The nicest world marker out there, would be cool to continue to use it.

    Thanks!

Hello, is there an chance you could make the update needed to bring this to 4.1? As it is showing up as being out of date.

    Thanks.

Is there anyway that I can have it perma-show. I am very meticulous with my UI and I have a spot for it in a line of buttons, I can't change the order of the buttons so there is this gaping hole where the button should be, and I can't stand it.
  • #13
cant you make it so i can set the timer to count down, instead of just up? (i see no point in a timer just telling me how long time raid marker has been up...) wanna know when it expires instead :)

  • #14
    They don't expire.
  • #16
They do actually, we've had them disappear a couple time during boss attempts.

    i like this addon.
one small thing, the dropshadow on the timers is a little too deep making it difficult to read sometimes.

Wondering if this change --- Players can now individually remove raid world markers. --- Is going to effect how this addon works? This change is not due til the 4.0.6 patch but figured I would see if by chance it will affect how Flareup works, then you might want to implement an update. Keep up with this great addon.

Love this addon. I'm getting an odd taint issue. When not party leader and joining a random dungeon. Typing /flareup pos and then attemping to place a flare causes '.. has been blocked from an action only available to the blizzard UI. You can disable and reload the UI.' the weird thing is... it lists another addon. The first few times I had the problem it blamed mapster. Today it blamed Broker_Equipment.

All addons have this issue as its a taint issue with the blizzard UI
