About Gatherer

Gatherer is an addon for herbalists, miners and treasure hunters in World of Warcraft. It's main purpose is to track the closest plants, deposits and treasure locations on your minimap.

The addon does not track like a tracking ability does, rather it "remembers" where you have found various items in the past. It does this whenever you gather (perform herbalism, mining or opening) on an item, and records the specific map location in its history. From then on, whenever the item comes into range of being one of the closest 1-25 (configurable) items to your present location, it will pop up on you minimap.

When you view your World Map, you will also see the item locations marked on the particular map you are viewing there.

For more information, please visit us at http://www.gathereraddon.com/

INSTALLATION:
--------------
Extract the data to your "World of Warcraft/Interface/AddOns" directory so that the "Gatherer" directory is a subdirectory of the "AddOns" directory.

USAGE:
--------------
Just use the game as normal.
When you gather things, they will appear on your minimap and your main map.
If you want to configure the addon, click the Gatherer configuration icon floating around your minimap frame or type /gather options.

Hi i've been using gatherer for quite some time now but now i have a problem.

Suddenly it's begun to fade herbs on the hud where before it would show every herb in the zone.

Example in Deepholm i would see the whole zone on hud as a big round circle of herbs. Now it's fading herbs so the hud looks oval and then it loads herbs as i get closer to them. Every time it loads new herbs on the hud the game judders and i get screen lag every time as i fly around.

How can i stop this and get it back to the way it was? I dont know if it was something i did but it's making it impossible for me to use at the moment :(

  • #3631

Out of date as of yesterday's WoW patch.
I can't get it to load at all. Hopefully it will be updated soon. :)

    hello,

thanks for the effort, I realise the main developer for this addon stoppped "developing" or working on it but I do have 2 comments, first is that the addon is reporting wrong level requirements numbers now, i mean it said that iron require 150 where it needs 125 and so on..

the seconed is a suggestion, if that information could be provided when I hover over a gathering node in the minimap as well it'll be awesome, I don't want to get all excited to find a new ore vein and spend a minute trying to reach it only to find out I still can't gather it at my skill level.

at any rate, it's a very nice addon and i like it a lot :)

    hello,

new here. first time trying add ons for WOW. followed your instructions(from reply below) and it seems to be working properly. followed your link and imported the directory like you said and i see one BIG issue. now its saying there are nodes for mining where there are none. it has the ones i previously discovered(when i tested it to make sure it was working) marked correctly however it's also has a ton of nodes where no nodes exist. i started following to the places it was saying there were nodes and well i should have been standing right on top of them, but yet they werent there and the games tracker wasnt showing them either above or under ground. any suggestions as to what might be causing this issue?

Not too sure on how it works, but each zone can have a number of "spawns" for a node to have a chance spawning there, since blizzard isnt going to pamper us they put a restriction on how much nodes can spawn in an area thus resulting in spawn points with no nodes. Not saying this is completly true it just what i've come to understand through playing. Hope it helps.

  • #3629

    Guys,

As kiefferiscooler notes, there are a bunch of node locations in the zone, but only a few are active at any given moment.  Think of node gathering as a game of whack-a-mole, there are a bunch of moles, but only a few have their little heads stuck through the hole for you to smash with your hammer, at a given moment.

Back in WoW 1.x, someone actually worked to determine the spawn rate, for one of the small zones, with the help of their guild.  If memory serves, it was 5 nodes 'up' and then a new one would spawn, randomly, a few seconds after one was plucked.

Do not believe anyone has verified the timing/number since then - but if anyone knows of a source, please do share it!!

Before anyone asks, there is no legal way to determine which nodes are actually active at a given time, you just need to follow the paths of the available nodes, until you find one that is ready to be plucked.

    Happy Gatherering,

    Nikk Cool

Is there a way I can save all the ore/herbs/etc I have marked from one computer to another ? If so, how ?  Thank you in advance,

    Richard

  • #3627

    da8ball,

Sure, just copy over ..\WorldofWarcraft\WTF\Account\<YourWoWAccountName>\SavedVariables\Gatherer.lua from the first machine to the second.

You can also transfer nodes in-game, if the two play on the same server, but different accounts, see http://Wiki.Norganna.Org/Gatherer/FAQ .

    Happy Gatherering,

    Hi,

this addon has still not been updated for 4.3. As i see from the comments below, you insist on telling your users to either load outdated addons or modify the addons code themselves. I do not do that. When there is a new major patch, the API may change, so i expect an addon to be tested by its developers to see it still works, and that it does not cause any problems, and if successfull to have it's compatibilty number increased (to 4.3, in this case). I understand you may not have the time for few hours of testing and then updating the version number. But therefore, i will no longer use this addon, and learn to live without it.

Still i would like to say thank you for the effort put into this! It has helped me many times, and i guess it's still really good for many players.

    Best regards

    Killerteddy78,

Our main developer for Gatherer has not played in quite some time, so it is left to those who have other areas of specialization to deal with it when - and if - they have time.

Although you can expect many things from many places, when dealing with FOSS, coded and maintained by volunteers, you can only obtain that which is given.  So, if you do not feel like clicking the checkbox or editing the four files, you can either use something else, or join the project and help to make it as you would like/prefer.

Obviously we would love to be able to put many hours into each of our sub-projects, but in reality, there is just not the manpower to do so.  Again, we more than welcome help and participation from anyone!!  Please consider joining the team.  Between helping users, coding, writing documentation, cleaning up icons, and more, there is definitely something for everyone, regardless of past experience.

    Happy Gatherering,

    Nikk Cool

    Hello!Laughing

Anyone knows if this addon is working normally for new players?Well I started in wow after the new update for 4.3 and not workingon my game.
I wonder if you also have someone (new or old) in the game with the same problem.
And if so, when they decided, because it seems to be very usefulthis system.

    Att

    Hi there, Ronnydorio,

Yes, it should still work just fine.  Go into your AddOns control panel and set the option in the upper right to "Load Out of Date", that will enable Gatherer, GathererHUD, Slidebar, and Swatter to function in 4.3.

You could also fully exit out of WoW and edit the files with the .toc extension in each of those folders within ..WorldofWarcraft\Interface\AddOns .  Just look for Inteface:    40200 and change to Interface:    40300.  Should be four times.

    Happy Gatherering,

    Nikk Cool
