About Geist

Geist provides a twenty-five button action bar that displays under the mouse cursor at a keypress for quick and convenient access. Geist includes Masque support for button skinning.

How to use: Bind a key to Geist using the keybinding interface in the menu. Geist will display whenever that key is pressed with the mouse over the center button.

Be sure to enable out of date addons to load this version of Geist on the live client until Mists of Pandaria is released.

Scale is currently one of the changeable options. The others aren't currently in place, but should be able to be added semi-easily. The actual reason that Geist is in the middle is depending on how you've got things set, it's entirely possible to have nothing visible when you hit the button for it. Sticking Geist in there shows you that something is happening at least.

I just tried this addon after seeing it on WoW.com and like it a lot but noticed that it and Bartender share real estate. The buttons I put in Geist show up in BT's bars 9 & 10. Just wondering if this is a glitch or planned.
  • #181
A little of neither actually. It has more to do with a limitation of WoW. There are a finite number of action buttons that mods are allowed to use. Bartender by its nature allows access to all 120. Geist also makes use of the same pool of available buttons, so conflicts are bound to occur. Geist has some commands built in to remap the buttons as needed. Experiment and you're likely to find something not currently in use.

Thank you very much for the info. That makes perfect sense. On a side note, after playing with this addon for a bit now I had an idea... could a second key binding be setup so that when this alternate one is pressed that Geist pops up at the cursor and stays visible until the alternate key is pressed again? This would come in handy when playing on my laptop without an external mouse. Just a thought. Thanks for the great addon!

I could probably look into it. There is a toggle mode currently in the addon now that does exactly what you describe, although it uses the same binding.

Been using this mod a long time and I just wanted to drop a comment saying how much I enjoy it. I love it especially for seldem-used macro buttons. Thanks for the hard work and I also want to say to those who get scared when they see the mod is (at this time) 10 months out of date... WORKS PERFECTLY as of patch 3.3.3., but I never had an issue with it before that either so I doubt that any patch up to the xpac will break it... but if it does, I have full confidence the author will fix it =) Give it a try.. everyone I have suggested it to has loved it!

Just wanted to say thanks for the comment. It's nice to get positive reviews from people using the addon. :D

For some reason the "toggle"-function has become stuck for me. It just can't be removed! I've tried writing toggle when it's open, when it's closed, relogged a dozen of times, I can't seem to remove it! Is there any way to remove this going through the code or anything?
  • #170
The quickest way without losing any other options is probably to go into the Geist SavedVariables found at "\World of Warcraft\WTF\Account\ACCOUNTNAME\REALM\CHARACTER\SavedVariables\Geist.lua" (long path there) and delete the line that says "["ToggleMode"] = 1,". Doing so (outside of the game) and restarting should return Geist to its default operation.
  • #171
Unfortunately it doesn't. I went as far as to uninstall Geist, everything that's even remotely connected to it and all Geist-files in the SavedVariables-folders for every character that used it, and then reinstall it. No go, the toggle-function is still enabled and it won't budge. I'm really running out of ideas here.

Here's the weirdest part. I tried to install an older version that didn't have the toggle-function implemented, and it STILL was on!
  • #173
That being the case, I'm not sure I can help you. It sounds like there's something interfering with either the key binding, or with the frame itself. You have inadvertently set the frame to always display with something like Visor2 or MoveAnything or something to that effect have you?

Also, if Geist is the only thing enabled, does it still do it?

Tested it on my bank with very little addons and there it works normally, so it's probably another addon that screws it up. Now I just have to find out which one.

    Thanks for the replies anyway!

Mine gets stuck too sometimes. What I've found works is to hold the keybound button and click the center button in the Geist. If you have an actual action button there you may need to remove it temporarily.

Geist should disappear. At least it does for me, then goes back to toggling normally.

I found out anyway what addon was causing it. Snowfallkeypress, an addon that enables action on button push instead of button release, was hindering the toggle function. Just remove it and presto!
