About GridTargets

This addon provides the following status concerning mobs targeted by raid members:

  • mob health - the health of the mob targeted by a raid member (can be displayed in the indicator from GridManaBars)
  • mob target - the name of the target of the mob targeted by a raid member
  • mob cast - the current cast of the mob targeted by a raid member (displayed as text or in mana bar indicator)
  • mob target indicator - if the target of the mob targeted by a raid member is another raid member this status marks that raid member in grid

The first two status are mainly meant to be used by tanks to know when a mob gets aggro on a raid member. For this they can be set to ignore mobs which target the player (the tank) himself.

The last status is meant for healers as an extension to the aggro indikator which shows for example when a boss targets someone else then the current tank to cast some random spell on that player. This status is best registered at the same indikator as the aggro status but with a lower priority.

Thanks goes to "dieHard98" from curse.com for the idea of that last status.

I assume that if I use this with the indicator from Grid Mana Bars that its one or the other? I can either see mob cast, mob health or player mana in that indicator?
  • #24
Exactly, but thats what priority settings are for.

To add a little context... I'm experimenting with a way to see raid member's targets when Smiting as Discipline. I use a macro through Clique to cast Smite on my mouseover target's target, so it'd be nice to have a way to see that target and it's remaining health.
  • #25
Ahhh of course! I will have to experiment. Mostly I want to be sure I can still see my fellow healers. Or maybe all mana when under a certain threshold. I can't remember all the priority options and am at work, but maybe Control Pipes can help in that area too. Based on your comment about using it to change the class color on mana bars I plan to install and experiment with it too.

    Thanks for the speedy reply!

I use that macro too, but most times i find it sufficiant to just use the tanks target since your damage isn't that good that having the right target would be important.

    Thanks for this awesome mod!

    Incoming suggestion tho...
The "mob health" and the "mob status" have something really awesome for tanks, the option that reads "ignore self".
Are there any plans to make a variant of that option where we can make it so it ignores other tanks besides us as well? to make this add-on nice for raiding where there's more than 1 tank?

Not sure how Grid can deal with that: Fetching the tank info from tank frames add-ons like oRA2 or the like would be nice... But in the event of fail there, the option to type the names of the players you want it to ignore would be perfect so I'd add the other tanks to that 'ignore' list.
  • #15
I'll try to add this with the next release, but that can take some time, sorry.
  • #16
Thanks for the reply. Honestly, it does sound hard to implement, but I just thought I'd suggest it anyway. Take your time! :D

Actually its not that hard, or shouldn't be. But I don't do much raiding with my tank and am somewhat lazy with finding a stupid error this causes...just keep poking me :)
Really, if I didn't finish until after the patch poke me again.
  • #18
You meant that last patch? :D
    Then you have been poked!

    *poke*

Already done in v0.3. "Ignore tanks" option in the settings.
But works only with oRA tanks for now.

It would be useful to allow seeing the actual mob (not the mob target) to check who is targeting what (kind of a check)...
  • #13
What do you mean by "seeing the actual mob"?
You can activate unique coloring by mob id for the mob health status. This way every mob gets a different color und you can see who targets what by a quick look. And if you don't know which mob has which color you can just assist the unit who targets the mob.
  • #21
What I mean is that instead of showing the name of the player targeted by the mob, there should be an additional option to show the name of the mob itself :)
  • #22
For what do you need the name?
If you want to see if everyone is targeting the correct mob you can use the "mob health" status with "Color by mobid" which trys to give every mob a unique color or if mob has a symbol the color of the symbol.
If you need it to target the mob itself its easier to use a mouseover macro with "[@mouseovertarget]".
