About Group Calendar 5

Attention Group Calendar 4 Users

Because GC5 is now final, I have moved GC4 to it's own project page here on Curse so that you can continue to update without accidentally getting GC5. The page is still pending approval from Curse admins, once it's approved I'll update this text with the URL to that page. The project will be called "Group Calendar 4" and this project is now renamed to "Group Calendar 5" for clarity.

News

"Maybe" signups coming soon! Blizzard is adding the ability to tentatively sign up for events in patch 3.3 and GC5 will be updated to support this much-needed feature. Woot!

Reporting Bugs

Feel free to report bugs in the comments section at the bottom of this page, but please remove the addon list from your logs. Those lists tend to be very large which makes it much harder for me to read and reply to other posts. I will ask for the addon list if I think it might be important or, better yet, create a CurseForge ticket and include the whole log in there instead. Thanks!

About Group Calendar 5

IMPORTANT: You must not enable Group Calendar 4 and Group Calendar 5 at the same time, neither one will be happy about it. You can switch back and forth and will not lose data in either one by doing so, you just can't enable both at once.

I have not written a manual for Group Calendar 5 yet, but the GC4 manual is available at http://wobbleworks.com/groupcalendar/manual/ and covers many of the principles used in GC5's design.

Group Calendar 5 features

  • Compatible with the built-in calendar and web-based armory calendars
  • View and edit events using local or server dates and times
  • Track tradeskill cooldowns
  • Create partnerships for coordinating events across multiple guilds
  • Export your calendar to the iCalendar format for use in external applications or web calendars
  • Reminders for upcoming events and tradeskill cooldowns
  • View events and get reminders while on your alts
  • Easy invite management to track group composition
  • Quickly invite players to the raid from the attendance list
  • Set level limits and duration for events
  • Analog clock with date on the minimap button for attractive timekeeping

Group Calendar 5 is completely re-built around the WoW calendar database. This allows it to work with the built-in calendar, including the armory web-based calendar. Also, because it works with the built-in calendar, your guild members are not required to use this addon since they can use the built-in calendar instead. They will still see your events and be able to sign up for them even if they choose to use the built-in calendar.

There is no documentation yet as I'm still working on development. The operation is similar to GC4, except that events only show up for players you invite. There is a new Invite tab in the event editor for selecting who should see the event and the selection will be remembered so that next time you create the same event you won't have to re-select it.

The multi-guild partnerships feature is different too because of the invite system the WoW calendar uses. To support multi-guild partnerships use the Partners tab in the main window to set up a roster-sharing partnership with a player in the other guild(s). Follow the instructions on that tab to set up the partnership. Once it's set up, the partner guilds will appear in your Invite tab in the event editor, where you can then mass-invite players from those guilds.

Since Blizzard doesn't have any support for mass-inviting players from other guilds, GC5 will invite them one at a time at the maximum speed Blizzard allows. This can take a while for large partnerships and I recommend that you use copy-and-paste to create additional events once you have an event set up the way you want it. Note that you can not copy an event while you're creating it, you must create it first and then you can copy it and paste the copy to a new date.

    Can you tell me what the icons are on teh face (bottom right) of the calendar are?

    I know the first one is the darkmoon faire toggle and second is for fishing. But the other three im unsure about and nothing pops up when i hover my mouse over them.

  • #4847

    If you turn on Newbie Tooltips (or Beginner Tooltips or something, I forget) in the WoW settings then those items should show descriptions of their purpose.

    For reference, the buttons are Darkmoon Faire, Weekly Events (fishing tournaments), Battleground Weekends, Dungeon/Raid Lockouts, and Show Alts (shows cached events while you're on alts).

  • #4845

    I have a trouble. When I create a guild event game was hangs on for a while, and then throws out the account.

  • #4848

    Sorry for the delay in replying.  Does it work if you schedule it directly in the Blizzard calendar instead (right click the minimap clock)?

  • #4841
    EDIT: Just noticed that it does this error msg with other addons too, incl. GroupCalendar, AtlasLoot and SexyMap. Same error msg, diff. addons. Asked Blizz to have a look at it instead.
  • #4840
    I've come across this error msg a lot lately when trying to set focus on a target.

    Error occured in: AddOn: GroupCalendar5
    Count: 1
    Message: Error: AddOn GroupCalendar5 attempted to call a forbidden function (FocusUnit()) from a tainted execution path.
    Debug:
    [C]: FocusUnit()
    ..\FrameXML\UnitPopup.lua:1514: func()
    ..\FrameXML\UIDropDownMenu.lua:700: UIDropDownMenuButton_OnClick()
    [string "*:OnClick"]:1:
    [string "*:OnClick"]:1

    I can usually set focus in 2nd try, but never in 1st, which ofc. can be annoying in fights etc. As far as I recall, I can set focus as normal after as well, but if I relog the 1st focus will always cause an error.

    Is there a way to save a list of people? I want a quick way to invite progression raid team, but they're different ranks, etc. So is there a way to make a setting with those players that I can just select and invite them or do I just need to manually add each one?
  • #4837
    Hi, perhaps I am doing something incorrectly but whenever I copy an event, the event itself gets copied fine but the invite list does not. Mainly I want to use the guild partnership facility to have a small subset of the other guild's members invited to each of our raids. Is there any way to create a "preferred invitee" list rather than having to go through the other guilds list of 360+ members each time or is there something I need to do to get the invitee list to copy when I copy an event? Thanks.
  • #4838
    Have experienced similiar issues when copying. I am hoping to find a way to invite the same members to every raid. Maybe make a prefered list for those I always invite to my raids.
  • #4834
    Running the latest version, 5.4.3 and receiving a great many taint messages in the taint log pertaining to GroupCalendar5 with respect to raid frames. Following is an example:

    An action was blocked in combat because of taint from GroupCalendar5 - CompactRaidFrame5:Show()
    Interface\FrameXML\CompactUnitFrame.lua:260 CompactUnitFrame_UpateVisible()
    Interface\FrameXML\CompactUnitFrame.lua:220 CompactUnitFrame_UpdateAll()
    Interface\FrameXML\CompactUnitFrame.lua:101

    There are numerous messages in the taint log (had a 50MB taint log from a raid). There's no specific errors in terms of functionality that I have found that this is blocking but it does take a toll on the client. Also, why would Group Calendar have anything to do with the raid frames?
  • #4835
    GC5 doesn't have anything to do with the raid frames. The problem is a bug in Blizzard's menu code. GC5 uses Blizzard's menu system, but because of their bug the menu system can cause taint to spread throughout WoW. Blizzard has been trying to fix their code and failing, so I've been investigating using an Ace library for my menus but I haven't spent much time on it yet.
  • #4831
    i have a question is there a calendar event helper that allows you to just click people in your friends list to add them to your event invites because all my friends are on real id and i added their toons because it made making the events faster being able to just type a couple letters but it is still so slow can this mod add the friends list toons?? or is there one out there i have been searching the data bases for days i curse was my last hope to find one that does it
  • #4832
    Yes, GC5 includes a "Friends" group in the event invite tab. You can click the box next to Friends to add everyone at once, or just go through the list and tick next to each friend you want.
  • #4833
    I forgot to mention that GC5 can be used interchangably with the Blizzard calendar. Left clicking the minimap button brings up GC5 while right clicking brings up the Blizzard calendar. GC5 uses the Blizzard calendar for its event storage so you can create and edit events in either one if you want.

    I've come across another problem today ... since the last update I've had no problems seeing who has signed up for events and, prior to today, no problems changing their status, however, today I went to change the status of a couple of people - the two buttons next to their name (confirm/standby) would not work. They were there, they were red, but they were unclickable. The small down arrow to the side to change role, status, etc, worked ... but not very well - the selectable area for the arrow was below where the graphic for the arrow was. I've had no error messages yet - I'll let you know if I do.
