About Group Calendar 5

I'm not updating Group Calendar for now

I've suspended my WoW subscription and will probably not be playing again until the next expansion. If you come up with code changes to fix problems introduced by content patches in the meantime, please post your fixes in the comments section and I'll work on getting them integrated and posted.

Reporting Bugs

Feel free to report bugs in the comments section at the bottom of this page, but please remove the addon list from your logs. Those lists tend to be very large which makes it much harder for me to read and reply to other posts. I will ask for the addon list if I think it might be important or, better yet, create a CurseForge ticket and include the whole log in there instead. Thanks!

About Group Calendar 5

IMPORTANT: You must not enable Group Calendar 4 and Group Calendar 5 at the same time, neither one will be happy about it. You can switch back and forth and will not lose data in either one by doing so, you just can't enable both at once.

I have not written a manual for Group Calendar 5 yet, but the GC4 manual is available at http://wobbleworks.com/groupcalendar/manual/ and covers many of the principles used in GC5's design.

Group Calendar 5 features

  • Compatible with the built-in calendar and web-based armory calendars
  • View and edit events using local or server dates and times
  • Track tradeskill cooldowns
  • Create partnerships for coordinating events across multiple guilds
  • Export your calendar to the iCalendar format for use in external applications or web calendars
  • Reminders for upcoming events and tradeskill cooldowns
  • View events and get reminders while on your alts
  • Easy invite management to track group composition
  • Quickly invite players to the raid from the attendance list
  • Set level limits and duration for events
  • Analog clock with date on the minimap button for attractive timekeeping

Group Calendar 5 is completely re-built around the WoW calendar database. This allows it to work with the built-in calendar, including the armory web-based calendar. Also, because it works with the built-in calendar, your guild members are not required to use this addon since they can use the built-in calendar instead. They will still see your events and be able to sign up for them even if they choose to use the built-in calendar.

There is no documentation yet as I'm still working on development. The operation is similar to GC4, except that events only show up for players you invite. There is a new Invite tab in the event editor for selecting who should see the event and the selection will be remembered so that next time you create the same event you won't have to re-select it.

The multi-guild partnerships feature is different too because of the invite system the WoW calendar uses. To support multi-guild partnerships use the Partners tab in the main window to set up a roster-sharing partnership with a player in the other guild(s). Follow the instructions on that tab to set up the partnership. Once it's set up, the partner guilds will appear in your Invite tab in the event editor, where you can then mass-invite players from those guilds.

Since Blizzard doesn't have any support for mass-inviting players from other guilds, GC5 will invite them one at a time at the maximum speed Blizzard allows. This can take a while for large partnerships and I recommend that you use copy-and-paste to create additional events once you have an event set up the way you want it. Note that you can not copy an event while you're creating it, you must create it first and then you can copy it and paste the copy to a new date.

Thanks for the report, I'll take a look at that.

Woot this looks great! Threee small issues:

    1) I can't see my tradeskill cooldowns. I just made some moonshroud and there is no event in 4 days

    2) I made an event as a copy from an event that had been made with the default calendar. Only some of the people see the event in their normal calendar. Other people cannot see it at all

    3) Is there a way to mass invite all 80s in the guild to an event that is already created? ie we invite 10 people individually, then 4 days later we want to mass invite all other 80s.

    thank you!
  • #4349
The tradeskill cooldown can be a little tricky for a couple of reasons. One is that if you use the option to only show things you have materials for, then once you make your cloth or transmute or whatever then it may disappear from the list such that GC5 can't see it to know what the cooldown is. The other is that Blizzard requires a hardware event in order to create a calendar event so I trigger the event creation on you closing the tradeskill window. This works fine if you click the close box with the mouse, but for some reason using the keyboard (ie, the ESC key) doesn't always count and so doesn't create the event.

Eventually it will fix itself as you use your tradeskill window though - next time you open it without the list filtered it'll be able to see the cooldown and eventually Blizzard will accept GC5's attempt to create the event for you.

I'm not sure why an event that's copied wouldn't show up for some players. Blizzard controls this through their servers so if those players are listed in the Inivte tab then they should have the event in their calendars as well.

To mass invite 80's, set a level limit on the event to 80 and then go to the Invite tab. Click the checkbox for your entire guild and only the level 80's will be invited. You can also use the checkboxes for specific ranks if you want to exclude alt ranks (or just uncheck the alt rank after inviting the whole guild first).
  • #4348
I can now see my tradeskill cooldowns, after the dailies reset I guess?
  • #4341
Is there any reason we can no longer manually add guild members? Or is there something I'm missing.

It's possible to add the members of my partner guilds.
  • #4342
You can't add guild members if the event you're creating is a Guild Event -- they're automatically invited when the event is created. It'd be nice to be able to manually invite them just so you can pre-assign moderators without having to wait for people to sign up first, but Blizzard doesn't allow it so there's nothing I can do.
  • #4343
(You're probably remembering earlier betas of GC5 where the default event type was Private Event, btw. You can still change any event to be a Private Event to get that behavior and it'll be remembered for next time you create the same event)
  • #4330
I'm not sure if i'm just missing it or not, but i don't see the options for setting up required classes for raids in GC5, like of you need 2 tanks and 2 healers for example. Is it there and i'm just missing it or was it removed in GC5?
  • #4331
It's there but disabled since there's no way for players to actually select a role when signing up yet. I can't finish the feature until Blizzard adds roles to signups or adds a signup comment field where I can stash a role code. For now with GC5 you have to manually manage accepting players.

Be sure to go on the Suggestions forum and request that Blizz adds the ability to add comments when you sign up for an event (I've posted a suggestion already).
  • #4326
I have updated to 5.0.1 and since doing so can no longer see attendees on any raids (the raids themselves show, I get the option to sign up but when i check to see who else is in the list the list is completely blank).

The raid organier who puts the raid sup is also using 5.0.1 and is not having an issue. In an attempt to correct it he gave me three commands I dont recall them atm, they looked like they were manual commands to wipe the events and reobtain them) and then reload UI.

Did so and nothing fixed. Persisted over multiple logins. In addition if I go into the list of members thats blank and attempt to "Start" the raid, I immediately get a lua error occuring in GroupCalender.

When I get home I can post a bit more direct info including the actual error message but in case you know whats happening already .....

    Thanks
  • #4328
Not sure why you wouldn't see attendance info - if you open the Blizzard calendar (right-click the minimap clock button) can you see them?

  • #4333
That error indicates that the attendance info is missing from the event, I'm not sure what could cause that. You can safely reset GC5 by doing

    /cal reset

You won't lose any events, it'll just dump its cache which contains copies of the calendars from your characters. This will force it to re-fetch those from the server and should clear up the problem.

Let me know if it happens again, especially if you figure out what triggers it.
